We always look forward to visiting The Shark Shack every time we are here. We usually make it several times during our stay. Hubby loves the tacos and I always get the grouper bites. I love the slaw. its my favorite side and the sauces are wonderful. We love the fact that The Shark Shack honors their First Responders and Military with Hero Meals. We always consider it a privilege to contribute on our visits. Staff is super friendly and I love it that it's a local family business. We are never disappointed! In response to the most recent review citing the music as an issue and that she was "offended" by the lyrics and her teenage kids were freaked out...I find that kind of ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that as teens they have heard far worse in secular music which degrades women, contains graphic language, substance abuse, and promotes negativity, including violence against the police. Even if you're not a Christian, uplifting and positive messages are much better than the alternative. As a parent, explaining the concept of sacrifice regardless of your beliefs is a great lesson for all. And a much better conversation with my children then having to explain that the F word means over shrimp and fries. Finally, we live in America. You as a consumer have choices. My wife and I had been wanting to try Shark Shack for a while now based on great reviews! So we just decided on a whim to head out 2hrs away and try it out. This place did not disappoint! I had the scallops basket. The scallops were huge like those big marshmallows you make s'mores with. They were cooked perfectly as well. They ran out of summer salad, so I tried the potato salad. Deeeelish! My wife got the famous grouper bites basket and loved it. She really liked the homemade cocktail sauce with it. All in all, this Shack will not disappoint! However when we picked up our food, the same waitress told us it would be a dollar & if we asked for anything else, they were out. The crab cake sandwich was also very satisfying and tasty. My four kids had the fried shrimp and grouper bites. No one left hungry. Took a chance on a seafood spot while on vacation. I gotta say, it exceeded my expectations. We had the shrimp and seafood tacos. Also, blackened fish tacos. All the seasoning was light and not overpowering. Batter was light. Coleslaw was to my liking. Kinda like KFC's coleslaw, meaning creamy and not vinegar-y. Was in town for the day and decided to stop here for a quick bite. They only have outdoor seating, and luckily the weather was nice. Tried to order a combo basket of oysters and clams with potato salad as the side but they were out of all three items. They were also out of scallops and crab cakes. Ended up ordering a combo basket of shrimp and fish bites with coleslaw as the side. The seafood was lightly breaded and cooked well. The coleslaw was very fresh and was a larger portion than I expected. My husband ordered the fish Reuben with fries. He said the sandwich was fine (fish was cooked well but just the overall concept of a Reuben sandwich with fish as the protein was odd, plus it had lettuce and tomato on it which is not typical for a Reuben). The fries were cooked well and the portion size was generous. Would definitely recommend, just be prepared for them not to have your first or second choice from the menu available. An over rated tourist trap. Long line, long wait, in the hot summer sun, mediocre food. We shared the seafood taco, which was okay at best. Folks dining here were mostly out of town beach tourists. No indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. Only good points were the polite staff and a discount was offered for those who served, hence the 2 stars. If you ask about it, they will talk about THEIR rights to privacy. I wonder about my right to know who is breathing on and touching my food. *For parents of diapered children there IS a changing table in the bathroom* We decided to try out Shark Shack after our visit to Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium. We first drove by it and I noticed it was busy so I quickly checked their yelp reviews. Since most of them were positive we decided to go. Much to our dismay all of the seating is outdoors. This is why I really am giving four stars. We have two children two and under and they do not fair well eating in the heat. With that being said, if our children hadn't been with us I would've been ok with eating in the heat. There were about five or six covered picnic tables that multiple parties were sharing which was nice. Kind of makes you talk to other people. Anywho, I am not a big fish eater but I decided to get the fried grouper bites that everyone raves about. The grouper was lightly battered and was very moist. It was just so-so for me. I didn't really have anything to compare it to so I cannot really say it was the best fried grouper ever. My sides were the potato salad and the coleslaw. The potato salad was mustard based but did not have an overbearing taste of mustard. I would definitely recommend it. The coleslaw on the other hand was ok. There is a twang to it that I just cannot place. I think it is vinegar and it was just too much vinegar for my liking. It will not be something I order again. We also ordered fried pickles which were amazing and my husband had the fish and chips. He said he preferred my grouper bites to his fish. Overall, we will definitely come back to the Shark Shack.
