I was really hoping for a decent Middle Eastern restaurant near me. I was pretty disappointed. I just ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and a fattoush salad - pretty basic. I've never had a greasy shawarma sandwich before. There was grease covering everything in the bag when I got home. And the salad was generous but not very fresh. Tons of lettuce , little else. I realize that the grease ( oil ??? ) could have come from the salad , but if so why package a carry out that way ? The salad wasn't in a separate bag. What a mess ! Stopped in again today for takeout. Better baked pitas are now the thing here, no more bad baggies of grocery store pita. Food was very fresh and tasty. It gets an extra star. Man this shish kafta is perfect, super meaty and flavorful. Three humungous pieces with grilled veggies, pickles, pink radishes, pitas with tomatoes, onion and spices and super good almond and vermicelli filled rice. The garlic sauce is zippy and powerful. The salad is crispy and nice with the dressing. The order of hummus is a big box, all creamy and red dusted, I did have to add a small olive oil drizzle but no worries as that is just my thing. You can tell by the way they greet their regulars, and make you feel like a regular if you have never been there. I have yet to have bad/slow service in any of my visits. MENU- similar to most Middle Eastern joints you would find in Dearborn. If you're looking for some Middle Eastern cuisine, they are likely to have it on their menu. FOOD- What isn't delicious? We typically get their combo for 2 for up to four people, and still have leftovers. Dig the kafta and the shwarma for sure. Their chicken shwarma sandwiches are also fantastic, and they always seem to put just the right amount of garlic sauce. Hummus with lamb and it came with salad and rice plus some pita bread. The meat was tender and hummus was freshly made. Rice were soft with a nice touch of olive oil and vermicelli. You sometimes have no idea what you are getting into with a random take out that just happens to be the closest one to your current location..... 30 minutes later, we were pleasantly amazed at the taste and quality of the food served here. I love this place for Middle Eastern food! The staff both in the restaurant and the phone for to go orders are always friendly, and on the right day they will call you "honey". The lunch specials are great. The portion of the food is reasonable enough to finish your plate in addition to the soup, I recommend the lentil, or the salad. I really don't know what they put in their salads, but they taste fresh and I have to imagine there must only be few ingredients in the dressing, but I just can't seem to figure them out. The dinner portion is significantly larger than lunch, where I have been able to get 4 meals out of it. As far as the sampler plate for 2 or 4, just know you better have an army of people to feed. One of the side effects of working in Dearborn for ten years is that you eat a lot of really good Middle Eastern Food. (Certainly some of the best in the Country.) We actually eat so much, that we tend to shy away from it anywhere else. Needless to say, after the glowing reviews for the Sheikh, my curiosity was sufficiently tweeked enough to see what was going on. The meal started with a well executed humus with a somewhat disappointing pita. Compared to the oven fresh hot puffs of heaven from La Pita in dearborn, these were a bit cold and dense. Next came the Tabouli which was really, really nice and contained a relatively high concentration of scallion. I'd almost dare say it was the best Tabouli I ever had. Finally the piping hot deboned chicken arrived, which came out in a grand serving platter that could have fit a turkey. The chicken was sliced thiner than usual and had a lush garlic lemon butter sauce on top. The smell and taste of the sauce was definitely intoxicating, as it seduced you into excess. I will have to say that the chicken meat was a bit of spongy, which was curious, but not off putting. The rice was just ok. A few other notes. The garlic sauce was very nice, and had a strong fresh lemon note in it. The chicken had a few shreds of the best florescent pink radish i've ever had. Well after visiting the place twice, I can say consistency of quality is spot on. I will proclaim they have the best hummous in the area, out of my Top three "Middle Eastern / Mediterranean" Restaurants. The Shish Tawook is also the best, the chicken breast chunks are grilled perfectly, now the meat grape leaves are good (7 out of 10), but; for (10 out of 10) I would have to say "Canton Pita" has that locked up. Love this place! Our family of six usually gets a full order de-boned chicken with rice and a fattoush salad. I can fill everyone up for under $25.00. They do carry-out too. Hot delicious bread and garlic sauce are complimentary. This meal is fantastic with lots of grilled chicken breast in an awesome sauce. The rice is always perfectly cooked and comes with pine nuts.
