Sierra is fantastic! My partial highlights and cut were exactly what I wanted. She took care to make sure that I was comfortable with every decision (I asked her to use her judgment on some things). She matched my existing highlights perfectly. I have long-ish hair and get frustrated when stylists cut off a lot more than I wanted. Sierra totally understood and said she would trim it however much I wanted, which I very much appreciated. I like the results of going to the salon but don't enjoy the process. Sierra made it enjoyable. As a huge bonus, I learned A LOT from her about hair, hair care, and highlights. I has an appointment booked and was left waiting for over 30 min with no apology. they said one time they would be "there in 5 min" and then never came back as they continued to cut another persons hair. Did not apologize and said "it's the holidays" as if I didn't book an appointment through their system. Luren, the stylist, should prioritize customer service despite being a "junior stylist". treating your clients with basic respect matters. Liz, who is not a manger but was introduced as one, raised her voice when asked about how to solve this, and was very unprofessional and disrespectful. Best place for a men's haircut in the area!! Ali cut and styled my medium-short length hair after helping me brainstorm ideas of what to do with it, taking all of my input into account and giving suggestions based on my wants and his experience. He was extremely detail-oriented and was very thorough in explaining how to style my new haircut on my own at home - which I really, really appreciated (and happens a lot less than you'd think!). This was my second haircut at The Shop at Shaw - the first being done by Tyler, who also was awesome and provided a similar experience (in addition to taming my hair after a year+ without a cut). Everyone here is really nice; they all have great hair and cool style. A+ for customer service and friendliness. The space is really great too. Very colorful and fun, an overall good vibe. The reason I'm giving them a 3 is that I paid $60 for a blow out that frizzed/curled midway through the wedding reception I attended later in day. I could tell, before leaving, that it wasn't that tight of a blowout because the roots looked kinda fluffy but I was in a hurry to get to a wedding out in Virginia. The style looked great, but it just didn't last for as long as a $60 blow out should last - pretty standard price for a nice salon in the city, in my experience. The reason I chose The Shop for a blowout was because I'm in the neighborhood, otherwise I go to a curly hair specific salon for haircuts/coloring. It's always good to have a neighborhood spot for blowouts and other styling that I cannot do myself... gonna have to keep looking, though, unfortunately. read more

It had been about 9 months since my last haircut, and I wanted to take a couple of inches off of my shoulder-length hair and add in some movement/layers. 2/21/20 was my very first visit to The Shop at Shaw. My appointment was with Kari! I was impressed the very moment I stepped across the threshold. There was a young lady who approached me & greeted me with a smile, followed by another young lady offering me something to quench my thirst. The decor keeps you occupied with different scenery for plenty of selfies if you dare! The atmosphere is friendly and everyone had smiles on their faces. I love the fact that everyone had their own style & didn't look "mechanical" as in having that dumb, awkward "uniformity!" I was extra impressed with the hair products Kari used in my hair ....oh & did I mention my hair came out ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! She nailed the picture of the color that I wanted! I really wanted to like this place because the space is beautiful and my haircutter (Kiara) was really nice. She made sure that I was paying the right price for the type of haircut I was getting, and also told me that if I checked in on Yelp, I could get a discount. Unfortunately, after a week of getting my haircut, ive settled that I'm just not satisfied. During the haircut, I asked if I can have layers (not too much, because I'm getting a bob it'll look like a mushroom if the layers are too short). She said because I'm thinning out my hair, I'll naturally have texture and some layers (somewhat paraphrasing..). As you can see from my picture, the back of my head is just really blunt, and doesn't look good on me because I have thick hair. There wasn't any more checking in about the haircut after I asked my question about the layers. read more

This is one of my favorite spots- not only for haircuts that I wouldn't trust to any other place but also for the vibe. I'd let Jamie take any risk because she has such a good sense of how ideas will look in practice. Coming in, you sign in on an iPad with your app login and are offered some Prosecco. There are big chaise lounges and gorgeous wall graffiti, I could shop the hair color and cuts on the staff alone for hours (especially the fantasy colors- I swear I'll be brave enough soon), and everyone seems to legitimately be having fun with one another. If you have a short female cut, the gender neutral pricing is also a huge bonus over other salons. (Ps dog friendly!) read more

I've been going to The Shop routinely since it first opened. I have had a balayage, fashion colors, neutral colors, cuts, bangs, and blowouts done. My stylist is Kat. She is great at balayage sand highlights especially. She has helped me maintain my hair routinely for years and has given me healthy trims while also helping me grow it out. I love how she cuts layers too. I have also seen Sierra for a bang trim and some funky hair color. She did a great job and seemed to cut my bangs intuitively. But I loved how it turned out. Their hair products are amazing as well. I love the Anika line. Since I got my hair washed with it I have not looked back. The staff and owner are very nice and eager to please. Everyone has really funky unique style too. I trust my stylists at The Shop and my favorite part about this place is that every time I leave, I feel like an individual. I have been going to Jamie for ten years! I was so excited she opened her own salon. I went to Adriana for the first time. I was nervous because I am very particular about my hair, but she killed it. She turned my very dark hair totally blond in one treatment. I got some subtle pink highlights and a nice shaved design on the back of my head. I walked out feeling like a different person! Also, you can tell a hair stylist runs this salon, because all the little touches are perfect. The sinks are actually comfortable to rest your head in. The products they used are great. Lovely experience! I was traveling in from out of town for a wedding and needed a haircut and style. I found the salon a bit at random and did a walk in, and I am SO GLAD I did. The salon is cute and chic, everyone was very friendly, and I was constantly caffeinated with solid coffee as my stylist worked her magic. The entire salon feels friendly and home-y, something I don't often find in salons. More importantly, my stylist listened patiently to my requests (I have somewhat wavy hair, so getting it into a ponytail or bun for work is a must), and she did a lovely job giving me some layers to reduce some of the weight in my hair without making it look choppy. read more

I don't like the overall experience here. Several times I had to wait a half hour or more (after my appointment time) for a 15 minute haircut. Haircut was never great. Sometimes it was uneven and sloppy. If you like 'cool' places that offer average haircuts maybe this is the place for you. I can't say enough good things about The Shop. Jamie is one of the most talented artists I've ever met. She is also incredibly efficient which is sooo appreciated (who has time to spend 5 hours getting highlights?!) I've sent several friends/coworkers here, all of whom have varying lengths/colors/textures of hair, and they have all been obsessed, so Jamie can really do it all! The space is also relaxing and beautifully decorated. It's also very clear that Jamie only hires and trains stylists that will do great work (i.e., I would feel comfortable trusting anyone here to work on my hair because I know they've all been vetted by and trained well by Jamie and her team). They had a very organized website linked to another site with all the appointments available, and the staff member I spoke to on the phone was very professional and helpful. The salon is clean, fun, and they use and sell an assortment of cool hair care products. My stylist was nice and the blow dry turned out great! I would definitely come back! read more

I swear I have tried every salon in DC and never fell in love with one until The Shop at Shaw. It is such a fun space and Jamie Lynn is so so good at what she does. I'm a redhead and a lot of colorists miss the mark, but Jamie Lynn kills it every time with the perfect blend of natural and vibrant color. Her prices are super reasonable compared to other places I've gone that completely gouge you. And she's great about upkeep and doing shorter in-between appointments to keep the color fresh. But the best part is - this place is FUN. The space is so cool, they pass out bubbles on arrival and do a photo shoot with their fun backdrops at the end. There's a real sense of community with people coming in & out to say hi or bring their dogs by, and every one of them loves Jamie Lynn. I stopped by with my friends during Pride last year and they were giving everyone glitter roots! Just one example of how they liven up the neighborhood. Plus to top it all off they carry some of my favorite brands like R + co, Amika and IGK. I'm moving to LA after 6 years of being in DC and so sad that I didn't find Jamie Lynn sooner. The Shop at Shaw is hands down the coolest salon I have ever been to. The interior decoration is hip, green and fun. They also had an amazing playlist for the three to four hours I spent there. Hair- Kathyana is incredible. She did a beautiful job on my cut and color. I highly recommend her to anyone who has thick lengthy hair- she knows how to handle this quickly with great care.
