This was my first time coming to The Shop. It was exactly what I hoped it would be. A unique building and interior with a vintage back story/ambiance featuring plenty of drink options including alcoholic beverages. They have many options for food and sweets as well with omni, vegetarian, and even vegan options which I deeply appreciate. The entire staff was very catering and kind and double checked to make sure what I wanted to order was meat free. I chose a comfortable seat in the corner to read in. They have couches, chairs, stools, and benches so there is no shortage of seating. I ordered a mocha and a pita, carrot, cucumber, and hummus plate which they brought to my seat. I was surprised that the pita bread had been heated up despite them getting a sudden rush of customers. I moved to Spokane from Salt Lake City where there is no shortage of unique and quaint coffee shops. This place truly fit the bill and I can easily say it is now my new favorite!! I love the coffee, the concerts! the "vibe," and friendliness here, and yes, sometimes helpers are slow, but this is not a fast food , Drive-Thru restaurant! I love the quaint decor-- it's all very eclectic and homey. I was disheartened to read another Commenters view that she went home with & intestinal ailment( with too much persona detail.) She assumed, on ZERO evidence, illness was caused by one dog, a therapy dog--in the Shop. I am the daughter of a physician. While the therapy dog may not have been appreciated by the diner? It had nothing whatever to do with any personal medical anomaly occurred, when she got home from The Shop. I was disgusted with her disgust! As for clientele? When someone buys a coffee, and sits down? He's a customer too! Commenter confuses Guiding Eye dogs for the blind, with Therapy Dogs,and animal didn't lick her plate, obviously, or get near anything she ordered. An unfair "review." The Shop, like the library, may get apparently "disheveled," perhaps "homeless," or "poor" clientele, in, from time to time. The only reason to ask someone to leave? Boorish behavior. That person was asked to leave. Period. The Shop has changed ownership, & things may not be exactly as folks remember, but accepting Therapy animals and not expecting THE DAVENPORT clientele to show in tuxedos, is best! I appreciate the coffee, the wacky ambiance of a homey, "home-away-from-home, "& love to see animals accepted. The real health concern is sterile food prep, and proper handling of food-- hand washing, over and over! Customer may have touched a door handle on the way out---- where someone leaving business, had not washed hands. End of story. Lovely coffee hang out, with music, movies in the summer, and just take a little extra jacket , in winter,as The Shop is cooler Inside in Winter--Get hot chocolate! New ownership and declining quality. We used to love the Shop. It had a unique atmosphere and sold great food at good prices. The new ownership has spoiled those things that once made it great. Gone is the quirky auto shop decor that made it a one-of-a-kind venue. There is nothing original or creative about the new style, and it reminds us of any of a dozen other coffee shops. But we could tolerate the new design if it weren't for the fact that there is a reduced selection of food that comes in smaller portions but with higher prices. We used to be regular patrons, but will now be going somewhere else. read more

My favorite spot that I found while visiting Spokane for work. Latte with maple syrup was perfect and the vegan cupcake was soooooo yummy with plenty of frosting. Went back in the evening and there was a cute scene with some live country music and enjoyed my Merlot just like at home in a ball jar. Highly recommend. read more

A neat little coffee, bakery, ice cream, food place! Love the atmosphere and good music. I only had coffee today but people around me were ordering sandwiches and dessert items. Looked delicious. There is a nice patio and on warmer days the "garage" doors are opened. read more

Ambience is great, and staff is welcoming. I have started coming to this regularly because of the delicious food and drinks. Menu is vast and very reasonable. There is an abundance of seating options to sit and crank out some studying for the day. Love to see local businesses doing so well. read more

Cute little place with a fun, hippy atmosphere. Foccacia breakfast sandwich was good, and they have a good collection of tea and coffee. If you like your places eclectic and trying just a bit too hard to be hip, you'll like this place. read more

My son and I have had a few minutes each week while my daughter does her dance class, and happened upon The Shop on Perry. I have loved the variety of treats, and also felt it was a fairly good value. The patio is lovely, and we have enjoyed our weekly dates there UNTIL TODAY. The young lady helping us behind the counter today started out as disinterested and unhelpful (I wasn't sure what flavor to put in my iced tea, and was looking for friendly advice. Not so much.) then moved on to downright rude. We finished ordering and paying and moved outside--only to wait 15+ minutes for the grilled cheese sandwich. I completely understand when small places get hit with a rush, but this was not the case. There were 2 little girls getting ice cream, and another gal behind the counter helping them. The 2 gals working were deep in conversation, so I assumed they'd just forgotten. It happens. I finally went in to check in just as she was plating it up. No word on the long wait, just handed it to me, so I said jokingly--"We thought you'd forgotten us!" Nope. No recovery here. She indignantly replied, "The cheese has to melt, you know!" and turned away. Not sure what kind of craptastic day she'd been having, but that was the WORST customer service I've gotten lately. On top of that, the carrots that came with it were slimy. Boo. Not the kind of person I'd want representing my business, nor the way I'd want my customers to feel. I love supporting local, but not when they fail like this. I'll be taking my weekly business elsewhere. read more

This is a characteristic place. I tend to like my hole-in-the-wall lounges. Something about this one seemed even more laid back, though. The staff was kind, friendly, yet still ethical. I had the pleasure of tasting a vegan/gluten-free cupcake (Carrot), and it was absolutely magnificent. I wouldn't have known it was v/g-free had it not been openly displayed as such. It was moist and decadent, with a rich icing. However, it did tend to fall apart rather easily. I am a [weird] person that prefers to eat cupcakes with a fork. Unfortunately, I was hardly able to do so with this fragile cake. Flavor - great. Structure - lacking. I also tried the Chicken Bacon Ranch Quiche but was not as pleased. Once again, the flavor was great but the edges had almost none. Some of those bites made my mouth dry. That's a perfect selling feature for their drinks (which I haven't tried). I wish the place had a bit more space to work with, as I felt cramped. Over all, it is a very decent location. I don't think I'd go out of my way to go there but you can be sure I'm there, if I'm ever in the area. read more

I went in for the first time yesterday and thought it was OK. I figure a coffee shop can't support a lot of square footage in a trendy neighborhood which may explain the crowded seating in a small space, basically the floor of an old 2-bay garage. The staff was very friendly and the service quick. The decor is American Picker meets Salvage Dawg meets Shabby Chic, which I prefer to the more formal living room vibe of national chains. I like seating that offers some privacy though, like a few booths or seating clusters of overstuffed chairs around coffee tables. No room for that here. Uncomfortable hardwood high-backed benches, bar height table with bar stools, one stuffed chair and other chairs directly facing other customers if you are sipping solo.(So I guess I do like a living room vibe...oops.) There's an outside seating area that provides more elbow room during warm weather and the garage doors may open up too. I don't know if they do. I'm imprinted on the taste of Starbucks so I didn't care for the flavor of the decaf nonfat mocha I had here. The soup tasted great but salty to me. I'm an undersalter though. One safety nitpick - there is a concrete block doorstop for the front door that looked like a hazard for anyone in sandals or flip flops in such a small crowded area. Nothing hurts quite like smashing a toe into a piece of concrete. I'd stop in again for soup and a sandwich or something from the deli but wouldn't linger due to the uncomfortable seating. Other patrons seemed very satisfied with the surroundings, so check it out for yourself. read more
