Our first time here and the person who took my order, he was super nice and helpful. Even the lady who packed my order was thorough and made sure I had all my items, condiments, and utensils. The place was getting slowly packed for Valentines. Inside it was simply decorated and they even had a little shop to buy shirts etc We ordered: 1. 3 musubis: 2 spam and 1 chicken katsu. All were fresh and perfectly seasoned. 2. Loco moco: It was decent and I got extra gravy on the side. Surprisingly, the mac salad was amazing in my opinion. 3. Smash burger with bacon & bbq sauce: I tried ordering a smash burger but with the western bacon cheeseburger and it didn't come out right. It ended up being a regular burger, not smash and it had shredded lettuce in it which threw me off. 4. Chocolate whoopie pie: Soft and fresh. It was delicious 5. My husband and I came here for takeout and the staff was professional and nice. We ordered 2 smash burgers with fries and sweet potato fries. I also saw one of the soups of the day was clam chowder with crab. Our order was ready in 10 minutes which allowed me to take a quick walk to see the shore. Smash burger: 5/5 Savory and meaty! So good! We did takeout because I had ripe avocados at home so I added that in. We got grilled onions and those were delicious! My husband did note that there weren't any frills with lettuce or tomatoes but honestly it didn't need it. Chowder: 5/5 Delicious and the fresh crab on top was so sweet! I rounded up. Rating should be 3-3.5. Lunched here on 5 January on a very rainy day. Wife had fish and chips; I had an open-faced turkey sammich. The fish was okay to good but lacked flavor. We added salt and it was then good. The chips were soggy; should never happen. My turkey sammich was very tasty but...$22 for, no kidding, two slices of good tasting turkey on bread with gravy and mashies. I really liked the taste but the price for what we got was pretty high. A cheeseburger with a very small portion of coleslaw should not cost close to $18. The burger patty did not look like it was handmade and the coleslaw needed more flavor. As others have said, In-n-Out would be a better option for a more reasonable cost. I could purchase 3 cheeseburgers and 1 regular burger for about the same cost. read more

We decided to try our new local spot, and we liked it! They have you order at the counter first, but then plenty of people around to bring your beverage, offer refills, and buss tables. We had a French dip, buffalo wings, patty melt and fish and chips. .you fish and chips were very tender and fresh tasting. Comes with malt vinegar and tartar sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly, even though a few were pretty deformed looking lol. This is classic diner type food and would be a great stop for a bite fresh from the beach. Owned by the same folks who run Breakers and happy to support another local business. Couple suggestions...plates could use a little more "refinement," just meaning they are not all that much to look at. We eat with our eyes first! Stopped into this newly opened, family-owned diner with a 50's vibe that somehow feels both nostalgic and like it actually passed a health inspection this century. It's right next to the ocean, which means you can enjoy your meal while contemplating the vastness of the sea... or the fact that seagulls definitely want your food more than you do. I ordered the grilled smash burger, which was excellent. My daughter inhaled the tater tots and homemade chips like she was being timed. I tried one chip, and immediately questioned why I've accepted non-crispy chips They also have a merchandise shop attached, filled with things you don't need but will absolutely buy anyway because "supporting local businesses" feels better than admitting you just wanted another hoodie. We're really happy to have another restaurant in this location, and we tried it today on their fourth day in business. The menu has a lot of variety, and the prices seem fair. The staff was amazingly friendly, though they didn't get a chance to check in for drink refills. The food was good, and with a bit of time, I think it could become great. I'd suggest using ground beef that's not quite as lean for their burgers, and actually smashing the smashburgers to get that classic texture and flavor. I love the Shore Shack. Instead of my usual burger, I had the Teriyaki Chicken which came with rice and macaroni salad. It was good. Then my son and I decided to splurge, and we shared a banana split. OMG! The staff and owners are always very friendly. Another sunny Saturday afternoon so we decided to go back to The Shore Shack for an actual meal after bumming around the beach. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a table outside. The outdoor dining area had shades, but umbrellas were available as well. Utensils were already on the table, and then the staff brought out water and our food shortly. While the $29 price tag on a lobster roll was decent considering all the lobster meat on it, both the bread and the lobster were dry and flavorless. All we got was a small lemon wedge for flavoring, but I could definitely use some melted butter to warm up the lobster meat gently, then lightly tossed with a lemony mayonnaise dressing to enhance the lobster's natural sweetness. Same thing with the fish...it's fresh and plenty of it but clearly needed a bit of seasoning. The best thing was the fries...they're fried to perfection and aromatic. read more

Stopped by Shore Shack and had a great experience. The chicken katsu was perfectly cooked, nice and crispy without being greasy. I also really liked the macaroni, it wasn't drowning in cream, and I didn't realize how much better I liked it this way. The service was super friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Would come back again. We ordered the French Dip (2 large, meaty/cheesy halves) and the Chicken Katsu (very crunchy, light, not oily). For both we chose Hawaiian macaroni salad for our sides. They serve burgers, soups, chicken tenders, Hawaiian (rice plates, spam musubi), and ice cream/sundaes. They do have alcohol - I got myself an Angry Orchard apply cider. All was delicious! Easy parking in the lot just across the street which is only maybe 20' from the restaurant's curb. In a complex with a lot of boutique stores to explore and just behind the restaurant is the beach. We were in Pacifica for our anniversary, searching for a place to pick up dinner. We went to other places which prices were too expensive. Then we came across the Shore Shack. It looked like a nice inviting cafe style place. We called and the person who answered the phone, (I forgot his name), was very congenial. Our food was the best, especially the delicious cod he recommended. Homemade chips were great. We were very pleased with the friendly service, food , prep timing, and over all cost were exceptional. The time has finally come for me to review the most anticipated new restaurant in Pacifica. The Shore Shack in Rockaway Beach opened earlier this week, and unfortunately, I was unable to visit on opening day. Still, I was able to hit it up last night (Friday) to show support for a cherished father-and-son duo who operate the award-winning Breakers, which is next door to the Shore Shack in Rockaway Beach. Upon arrival around 7:00 PM with my family of four. We were greeted by friendly staff as we waited approximately 15 minutes to place our order, then found a seat. We all ordered different items from their vast menu. I will do my best to review each item below, but overall, we got several different burgers, grilled short ribs, and a corn dog, lol. The design of The Shore Shack resembles a 50s diner set in an island paradise (walk outside and look at the ocean water at Rockaway Beach). Once we were seated, our drinks were delivered to our table within 5 minutes, which is impressive given how busy they were at this hour. The place was packed with no tables available for a short period. The staff was very attentive in clearing and cleaning the tables so new guests could sit and enjoy their food. The overall wait for our food was about 20-25 minutes, but it was well worth it. So with that said, let's dive into what we ordered and the reviews. My father-in-law ordered a smash burger with fries, and it came out piping hot. It was wrapped in diner-inspired paper and cooked to perfection. My father-in-law said the burger was one of the best smash burgers he had ever had. My mother-in-law ordered the Hawaiian grilled short ribs with macaroni salad and rice. Her ribs were grilled perfectly and not overly salted, unlike other restaurants. The ribs practically fell off the bone, and the meat was so juicy and tender. The macaroni salad was out of this world, as evidenced by the fact that there was none left on the plate when she was done. She stated she would love to have that macaroni salad with any other entree when we visit again. My wife ordered the turkey burger with tater tots, and boy, was she blown away. The burger was cooked to perfection, and all the toppings were fresh and delicious. The tater tots were piping hot with just the right crispiness that you expect from a great tater tot. Yours truly ordered a double cheeseburger with extra cheese along with French fries. The burger was made exactly as I requested (medium well), and the fries were perfectly crisped. I can admit that this was one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever had. It beats out all the competing burger restaurants in town and across the region. Additionally, I ordered one of their beef corn dogs with tater tots, as I LOVE corn dogs and you cannot usually find them in restaurants. This was the best corn dog I have ever had. I was expecting this to be a frozen-style corn dog, cooked to order. However, this was a big, juicy, hot dog, made to order and dipped in batter. It had the perfect amount of breading and was piping hot when it arrived. I will definitely order more of these in the future as it's one of my favorite grab-and-go items. If all that wasn't enough, the employees were bringing around samples of their soft-serve ice cream, and OMG, it was delicious. We will definitely order some of the soft serve in the future, as it's better than anyone else's. Overall, we were blown away by the staff's customer service and the quality of the food. The Shore Shack is exactly what Pacifica needed, and I implore you to get out and visit as soon as possible. This place is going to get extremely popular very quickly. read more

Nice ambiance, courteous staff.....all of us were excited to try as they are new. Honestly, we all felt the burgers were overpriced, but we tried them. For example, a cheeseburger ends up costing you almost $20 (it's $16 plus factor a minimum of 15% tip, that's $19.55). I think just as expensive as the new Nations in Pacifica, but lower quality (imho). Between the two, I would do Nations....though we can't afford to keep eating either burgers every weekend, The Habit or In n Out are more affordable and everyone is just as happy. read more

This is definitely a mixed review and I really wanted to love this place because I do my best to support local. This type of food does well in Pacifica, but it's just not my flavor. We ordered 2 burgers & a patty melt. I think slaw should have a little bit of a crunch to it, but the flavors also need time to meld: it was soggy and sugary. The burgers were not bad, but they have nothing that makes them unique. For a plain burger, it works. The patty melt was seriously lacking. It's my fault for not reading the menu carefully, but it was on sourdough so it had no flavor and it was very greasy: what makes a patty melt is the bread! The thing that earned it two stars instead of three was the mac n cheese... it's either kraft mac n cheese out of a box or a knock off brand from a box. The long and the short is, this burger spot is charming, but I wouldn't go back because it's just not for me. The menu has a great variety of American comfort food, so everyone in our group found something they enjoyed. Okay, so I'm staying in a hotel across the street and thought I'd give it a try. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger which was actually very good- a very generous amount of meat that was well flavored. Unfortunately the fries were horrible and tasted very greasy. I was happy enough with the burger and full as well, so no big deal. The next evening I went back and ordered their shrimp salad with avocado and egg. I think it was $28 and I was expecting a nice meal. It arrived in a small bowl like for the size you'd use for cereal, filled with chopped lettuce one egg half avocado and a small amount of shrimp with a very small side of thousands island dressing. The shrimp was a little ripe and could have used a lemon to neutralize the smell. The worst part was the lettuce was so wet that at the bottom of the bowl there was a pool of water. I made the best of it and didn't complain. But tonight I'm looking for a different place to spend my money. Thoughts. Change your oil regularly. When you're serving seafood of any kind add a lemon wedge. And for god sakes dry you lettuce and don't serve it in a cereal bowl! read more

The place looks great - all new and shiny and coordinated and well staffed. However there is no indication that you seat yourself and order at the counter. We (party of 3) came in around 6:45pm. We stood at the counter for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us - an employee handed us menus and nodded when I asked if we seat ourselves. We sat at our table with our menus watching & waiting when it became clear that we had to go to the counter to order. Ok fine, new place, but better signage would help. Ordered easily and our drinks came out almost immediately. Then the food came... Fish & Chips: the fish was literally 4 triangle shaped frozen filets from the grocery store freezer section on a pile of fries. I wish I had taken a photo bc I could hardly believe it myself. This dish was $21.99 BBQ Bacon Burger add fried egg: the burger is quite large. Unlike other reviews mentioned, the patty was not freshly ground beef, but rather a Sysco frozen patty - which is fine but not what we were expecting from other reviews. $19.99 Clam chowder: this is where things really went sideways...the soup was inedible - it clearly was food service chowder from a can and so salty I couldn't even eat it. The thing is we are on the coast and there's no excuse for bad clam chowder especially when your neighbors are both Nick's and Moonraker. $7.49 Spam musubi: the musubi was ok. The rice needs to be seasoned either with furikake and/or seasoned rice vinegar & mirin. But it was fine $3.99 Lastly the ice cream... we had vanilla chocolate swirl and it was DELICIOUS! That Strauss creamery knows how to make soft serve. $5.49 Overall the service was good. There were a lot of people on staff but we still had to wait to be acknowledged and order while they socialized with each other nearby. Everyone was very friendly tho. I don't know if I can recommend Shore Shack for their food - no one in our party enjoyed their meal nor did we finish anything except the musubi. Hopefully the food will improve over time? At least make some of the menu items from scratch? Or maybe just take clam chowder off the menu and focus on the diner classics? Find a good fish supplier on the coast and fry the fish to order for the fish & chips? I guess we will have to wait and see but honestly I don't think I'll chance it. In all fairness we did try The Shore Shack on the second weekend that they've been open. They have a "Soft opening" menu. My party of 7 arrived when they opened. The staff is very friendly. It took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. When the food arrived they forgot to put in our grandmothers order and she had to wait an additional 15 minutes while everyone had their food in front of them. I ordered the Hawaiian bbq chicken plate. It was subpar. The chicken and mac salad were super dry. The rice was nice and fresh. My husband had the smash burger. He barely ate half of it. Grandmas patty melt was super dry. Mother in laws blt was just "ok". "Not very much bacon and not special". Father in law and uncle ordered the French dip. They enjoyed them very much. I will try that next time. Once again the staff was very nice. We will try them again in a few months to see if it improves. I'm hopeful because I really want this business to succeed. It's a great concept. It just needs to be fine tuned. I'll update in a few months when I give them another shot. read more
