I've been looking for places that have octopus and on the window it said $10 for a pound or $20 for 2 pounds. So he weighs the block of ice with octopus in it so I ended up having to pay $34 when there's at least a pound of ice there I definitely didn't appreciate having to pay extra for ice that surrounded the octopus cause there's no way in hell this is 3.5 pounds of octopus. But they do have a bunch of different kinds of fresh fish, different kinds of frozen crab and a few different things in the freezer section. They also say they have sushi grade fish. read more

I've been VERY nervous to try seafood here since I'm from Maryland. My mentee, however wanted some seafood so I asked my coworker where should I take her since I didn't know where to go. She recommended the shrimp dock and I'm happy to say that they were delightful!!! Customer service was wonderful because she was very helpful, sorry I don't remember her name. We didn't know what to order and asked for her recommendations. She knew the menu well because everything that she recommended was amazing!!! I ordered the popcorn shrimp and blackened salmon with fried okra and Cajun corn. My mentee ordered fried catfish and coconut shrimp with Cajun corn and crab rangoons. Clean fish market smell when entering, reminds me of the coast when I was growing up. Nothing like the funk of the local chain grocers. This place is clean! HUGE shrimp po boy, fried perfectly - can't fit the sandwich in your mouth. It's a market first with some seating, I don't know what other people expect when coming here to dine in. The fried foods - hush puppies and artichokes are perfectly fried crispy, golden happiness. The wife got the crabcake and while it was cooked well you can tell it was pre prepped - not my favorite crab cake but it well large and cooked well. I like my crab cakes fluffy and falling apart with more lumps of crab meat than breading - this was not my favorite. I think the price was more than fair for the amount of food that served and everyone in the market was friendly. Will come again. read more

The shrimp dock has been under new ownership for more than a year now. I think the old shrimp dock eating area was more focused on pleasing the customer and a little less driven by profit. I find each time I visit the current shrimp dock the portion size of my fish continues to shrink, but the prices continue to go up. I used to think the shrimp dock was a very good value, but now i would say it's just OK, nothing particularly special. I also liked the old staff, a bit more quirky but definitely more approachable. Great local fish market and good fried food at well. The guys here are friendly and helpful. I sat and watched person after person come in and get a variety of fish and seafood to take home and those guys were on it. Even provided ice to someone who had a long drive home. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty our Po'boys were! I'm always skeptical of New Orleans inspired cuisine here in Knoxville, however, it was pretty good. The sandwich was seasoned well, however, the fries came up short. Unfortunately, they tasted like they were cooked in frying oil with seafood. They had an oily chew instead of a crispy crunch. I've been coming here for a long time. The po-boys are especially good and they have really fresh seafood, if pricey. Unfortunately, they no longer keep regular hóurs. They close whenever they damn well feel like it, no matter what hours they list. The kitchen is listed as closing at 5:30. We arrived 3 minutes after 5 and they refused to serve us. So, they really aren't a serious business anymore. You can't trust them. We've tried to catch their kitchen open 4 times in the last month. They are never open and claim they closed the kitchen. Sunrise market has even fresher seafood and will clean and fry your fish for you right there so we'll be going there fron now on. Too bad. Bought a pound and a half of scallops at $40 a pound. Got them home (on ice). They smelled VERY fishy pre- cooked. Cooked them up and some had an ammonia taste to them and some were very soft meat. I know taste and texture they are supposed to be - this not right. Ugh! Won't go back there for seafood. We threw them away. Nasty. Waste of money for rotting scallops. I arrange activities, including weekly dinners, for groups as many as 30; but, usually 20-25. I called Phil, the owner of the Bearden location, and he was very open to accommodating us. I had never been to any location & was not aware that it was actually more of a market than a traditional restaurant. Phil kept his 'market' open for my group which when I first opened the reservations and, for the first week, only had 9 people. This grew to 28 and settled to a final count of 23. The two young men who waited on us, Drew & Parker, were excellent as well. Phil offered us the entire market's options and his lunch menu 'made to order' and he purchased wine for those customers who chose to buy. The food was fresh, customized, and impeccable! The orders all came out at once and the portions were huge. My Shrimp Po' Boy did not belie its reviews. It WAS terrific and I've at least two more lunches. Each meal came with 2 sides...2 sides! The prices are unbeatable!! Mine, that you'll see below, was only $10.91! You've got to try it and The Shrimp Dock!! I'll be back, not only as a diner, but as a market shopper. They have fresh fish, dips & you can also get your po boy sandwich fix on, they also have a variety of frozen items (different soups & dips, I prefer the seafood gumbo). This place has the best Po'boy in Knoxville. One sandwich comes with a very generous portion of shrimp, on delicious bread, with tarter sauce or garlic aïoli, and cocktail sauce. FYI, their house-made cocktail sauce is amazing!! In addition to serving awesome Po'boys, they have an excellent selection of seafood, including soups, stock, and other ingredients. The only drawback is, unfortunately, their serving hours are quite limited. Speedy and friendly service, good choice of beer on tap and a TON of awesome seafood to choose from. Had oysters, grilled scallops, and hubby had shrimp po'boy. All were very tasty. Only lost one star because there was basically no seasoning in my scallops (or my side dish of corn) and that was a bit of a bummer. However they were cooked well....just at least needed some salt! I tried this for lunch with a colleague today. We wanted something yummy and different, but affordable. You enter this little shop and are surrounded by the store offerings. They sell fresh fish, roe, frog legs, seafood, homemade tartar sauce, dips, prepared soups, bisque, jambalaya, crawfish pie, seafood sausages and more. I'll definitely be shopping here as often as I can, because this was some fresh, great looking product. We found someone at the counter and ordered lunch. She tried the clam strip lunch with fries and coleslaw and really enjoyed it. I had the crab cake with coleslaw and hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were tasty, but maybe a hair dry. The coleslaw was creamy and fresh. The crab cake was sizable and had plenty of crab, not just breading and filler. It was flavorful and satisfying. The Shrimp Dock is one of a handful of Knoxville seafood restaurant/markets where fresh seafood from the Gulf and the Atlantic is flown in every week. During a lunch hour, I stopped in and ordered their Shrimp Po-Boy sandwich with Jambalaya and chips as sides. The sandwich was huge, filled to over-flowing with popcorn sized shrimp that was breaded and deep fat fried. The chips on the side were good, but the Jambalaya was little more than flavored rice with only a few pieces of sausage and veggies. The dining area is small and seats about 30 or so, with snack bar service as well. All of the soups, bisques, and other sides are made there FRESH, from scratch. My wife loves clam chowder and I love lobster bisque, so before I left, I purchased a quart of each. The clam chowder (Boston style) was OUTSTANDING. Creamy and filled with delicious chunks of clam, onion, celery and other vegetables, seasoned to perfection. The lobster bisque, sadly was WAY TOO SALTY. It was creamy, filled with delicious tid-bits of lobster, and other savory vegetables, but the salt killed it for me. There was about 3 feet between them. He took the order, handled food & rang up orders with no handwashing or sanitizing. Have been to The Shrimp Dock in Alcoa twice and loved it. Glad to find one close to me in Bearden. Everything looks about the same, except the service. I tried to ask questions and order similar items that I have in Alcoa. The person taking the order, by his pompous attitude I would guess, was the owner. He let me know we are not a restaurant, we are a fish market. Ok a fish market that cooks your food, brings it to your table and offers drinks. Hmmm, that sounds awfully similar to the definition of a restaurant. I hope this guy is not the owner, because he obviously has zero customer service experience. Leave the customer service to the employees and stay home and you will be fine. I'll be going to the one in Alcoa. read more

So this was a horrible experience and I'm definitely not gonna comeback. Place says it opens at 11am. I got here at 11:15am. I was about to order and guy says "I don't have any food ready". Then I think to myself why are you even open? If you're not ready to serve your menu items. What a joke. He says the food won't be ready till noon. An hour after they open. What food business does that? Wasted time and gas to come here. Also they are only open till 4 on sundays. I've seen 2 other couples leave because of this. Also I saw pictures on here of fresh soups and he tells me they only do that in the colder months..what?! Again a stupid choice. I really was looking forward to trying a lot of things here too.
