I actually came across this store by chance when shopping in the area. I'd been shopping for an underwater camera and decided to go in to take a look. I had high expectation but was pretty disappointed by this place. It is an extremely small shop. They have only a few lenses for each brand on shelf. They had more camera bags than lenses. I asked if they had any used lenses at good price, they promised to have best price for any lenses. They were unwilling to show there selection of used / open box lenses, if any. I then asked the price of Sony GM 24-70, and their price is the same as MSRP ($2198) and it would take several days to deliver to the store. One could easily get an open-box one for about $1900 or a used one for $1650 with manufacture or seller warranty elsewhere. And, other online retailers often give ~5% reward when buying these lenses. They don't have to offer best price for every lens, but if they can't, don't claim so. Not impressed. read more

We recently purchased a Nikon D5300 along with a couple of lenses from The Shutterbug store. We consider ourselves hobbyist photographers, and have found that all of the lenses to choose from can be very intimidating. However, David was very knowledgeable and after listening to us about the type of photographs that we like to take, and what we were looking for, he showed us several lenses that would accomplish what we had in mind. We really enjoyed our experience and will return to this store for future camera related purchases. read more

Everyone here knows their stuff when it comes to all things photography. Josh in particular was very helpful when I had a minor issue with a product (not Shutterbug's fault) and worked to correct the issue. I have bought 2 cameras from this store, (Nikon D5100 and Olympus TG-2) and will most likely be back for more supplies in the future. read more

Well. It came down to my camera repair and after a month (it specifically says on the contract UP TO 4 weeks) no calls from them about the status. I called them to see what was up and they didn't even have my name on file anymore. Spoke with the manager and he didn't get any details for my repair, but was able to find my name and the cost. Fortunately the price was reasonable, but disappointed by the lack of organization and good customer service for something spendy that I consider my baby. read more

I was looking for a new Nikon camera, which did not seem to stay on store shelves for vary long. I stopped in and spoke with the staff several weeks ago. I was given the opportunity to try similar Nikon cameras. I was allowed to actually use the cameras to see how things work. I really appreciated the helpful staff and being allowed to experiment with the cameras. I was also encouraged to call back to see if the camera I wanted (Nikon P900) was in stock. I called several different stores over the next couple of weeks, and was told they did not have one for sale. At several stores I was treated as if I was not important. Sometimes the person on the other end of the phone sounded shocked that I would be looking for this specific camera. Each time I called The Shutterbug at Washington Square I was treated well and with interest in helping me. Imagine my surprise when I called and was told The Shutterbug at Washington Square actually had a camera in stock! They put my name on the camera and set it aside for me to purchase later in the day. When I arrived at the store to purchase the camera, the staff took the camera out of the box, put in the battery, and a memory card so I could try it out. It worked wonderfully! Even after the purchase was completed, the staff told me to call if I had any problems or questions. I felt like I was important to them and they were interested in helping me! I've purchased many of my accessories and lenses from here and have always been impressed with the competency and professionalism of the staff. If they don't have an item on hand, they are quick to get it or direct you to a nearby store. So far everyone that I've met has been well informed and courteous. I also sense no bias or unnecessary up selling, but just the positives and negatives of each product and how it may fit my needs. David is extremely knowledgeable not just on the equipment, but on the photography side as well. I have been impressed with the Shutterbug in Washington Square since we purchased a Canon G12 there 3 years ago. When we returned there recently for repairs for our camera and to look into purchasing an SLR, we were once again very pleased with our experience. The same sales associate who had helped us 3 years ago, Alisha, was working again when we went in. She is SUPER helpful. She helped us decide on a new camera, and convinced us to go with the Olympus Pen for size and quality, and we have been VERY happy with our purchase. She knew I was heading out of town, and had me come in within the next few days when I had a little more time after "playing" with the camera so she could give me a tutorial on how to use certain features and change settings, etc. She spent a lot of time with me and answered all of my questions thoroughly without making me feel inadequate. I would recommend their service to ANYONE! Also, since we had purchased a warranty for our camera, they made the repair process for our Canon G12 seamless! Pay them a visit!!! read more

I recently went into the shutterbug at the Washington Square Mall to just take a look and get my hands on some cameras I was looking at. I had done a good amount of research into an array of Canon cameras to upgrade from my Canon 60D. After talking with David for awhile about the Canon 6D and how great of a camera it is and all the features I headed home again to do some more research. Everything David told me about the camera was not only correct, but it expanded on most of the information that others had given in reviews of it. I placed a call to have the camera put on hold for me. By the time I drove from Hillsboro to the mall, David already had the camera set aside with a variety of accessories to go along with it I might have been interested in. Not only do their prices meet or beat anyone's prices (trust me, I looked), the store is run by actual photographers who use the gear and know exactly what they are talking about.
