Stopped by here to shop for a video camera. They were very patient with my lack of expertise, answered all my questions, and provided really solid advice on the options available. I felt they were very knowledgeable and trustworthy -- they really seemed to want to sell the product that was best for me, instead of up-selling me on a higher priced product. I ended up with a Sony camera which, as they advised, takes fantastic photos and video. I'm very pleased. I also bought a tripod from them. They took the time to take them out of the box and set them up so I could select from the different models, and advised me on the least expensive model that had the features I wanted. Again, good service. I also purchased an international warranty (being from Canada, figured it was a good idea). They didn't have any in stock, but they scanned an emailed me the document when I got home, and the original was sent in the mail. Solid follow up, and great customer experience. I'd definitely return to The Shutterbug. They gave WAY better service than the camera stores I visited here in Vancouver Canada before my trip to the US. read more

The staff at this place is pretty good, and they know what they sell! I bought a 50 mm prime lens, a tripod, batteries , a lens hood and a bag from them. The lady precisely searched and gave me the bag I needed. Really neat! But I couldn't get original Nikon batteries, even after reminding them. read more

Chad was extremely helpful not only with camera stuff but also with all other aspects of photography; he was attentive and patient and taught me a lot of useful stuff, no sales pressure at all. I really enjoyed my experience at The Shutterbug! The staff was incredibly helpful and I got exactly what I needed. The man who helped me was extremely knowledgeable about the products, good thing cause I am a newbie to the camera world. I needed a digital SLR for my photography class at school and really needed help picking one out. I went in, gave him my price range and he got me everything I needed. An Olympus e-pl1, a camera bag, an extra lens, filters, a 3 year warranty, an SD card and a few more thing here and there. It came to about $700. After going to two or three of the largest camera stores in Portland I had given up on finding a cable to recharge my wife's Nikon Coolpix. I was advised to go on line and pay $25 (plus, of course, wait for delivery). Happened to pass Shutterbug on Broadway, and since I wasn't in a hurry gave it one last shot. I have been buying film and having it developed here for a few months and have had great experiences, but the past 24 hours have killed my interest in coming back. I got a call last night from an employee who handed off my prints to another customer with my last name, because said employee did not check their first name. I showed apparent frustration over the phone but did not blow up, they said they'd give me a call when the person who had mine would return them. They did, and I am grateful to have my prints back at all, but when I calmly and politely confronted the staff about it when I picked them up today, they actually interrupted me with a mumbled "yeahyeahitwon'thappenagain" as they walked away to help another customer. How can you not attempt to fix such a huge mistake? How can you be so dismissive? I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Can I give this place 6 stars?! Bought a Nikon D750 here last week. LOVE the camera, the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Although we live in Seattle we will always go out of our way to buy equipment here (no sales tax doesn't hurt). They offer a warranty I haven't seen anywhere else on cameras. 3 years! Includes accidental damage, and free sensor cleaning. Woooow. They even called to tell us about a Black Friday promotional we could take advantage of since we bought a camera earlier this week. Every time I come into shutterbug I am greeted by the extremely friendly, knowledgable staff or manager. I happily bicycle 45 minutes across the river from SE just to ensure the quality treatment and service I get there. I just got the best advice on film choice before going to photograph jazzfest in NOLA last weekend, and the photo service quality is always off the chain. They take the time to talk with me about whatever photography related discussion arises. Don't go to Walgreens or rite aid if you value developing your memories tangibly via the art of photography! i'm very happy i shopped here. i was looking for a small, lightweight, inexpensive camera and i found it here - along with a friendly "good morning" when i walked in the door, and a knowledgeable salesman who listened to what i wanted, considered what i've been using and steered me in the right direction. the only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is the prices - higher than chain stores (which is to be expected, but for lower prices i'd give 5 stars). read more

Was in the Portland area hoping to pick up a DSLR *body* and wasn't having luck getting anything but a kit through the big electronics chains. Called up Shutterbug nearly at random and was told that they could have the body ordered and in the store within several hours or that if I came in before that they could takes apart a kit for me. The middle aged woman who works here needs to pay attention. The last time I came to this location for a charger, she gave me the wrong one and I had to go all the way back. And then today the same woman put the wrong battery on hold. Thankfully someone else noticed and fixed the problem. People come here and expect the employees to know what they are talking about, it would be nice if she could get re-trained or at least stay present enough to focus on what she's doing... read more

If I could give these guys more stars I would! I have always gotten great service at Shutterbug, but this last visit was over the top amazing! I went in with a last minute idea for a personalized mug that I needed in two days. I asked if it was possible to get it that quickly and was told by Chris that it might take longer, especially being the holidays, but he would call the lab in Salem and ask. He called the lab and they said they could get it done in a day, but there wasn't a regular delivery from the lab to that store in time. So Chris, who apparently lives in Salem and comes up to Portland to work, personally picked up my mug, and then also went to the Washington Square store to pick up a camera battery that my mom needed and brought them both back up to the downtown store! It's 11:30 the day after I went in and someone just called to let me know my mug and battery are there waiting for me with a whole day to spare before I need them! Thank you so much Chris for your exceptional service. I am absolutely blown away. Thanks to you I will have an awesome gift for my work holiday party! read more
