Today I had the Monet (avocado toast) and a side salad. Both were so delicious! The avocado toast was seasoned and full of texture. The salad has the best house dressing that I wish I could take a bottle home with me. The waitress/hostess was kind and warm. The young men were polite and never stopped cleaning or working. Had dinner here tonight. It was very busy but we were able to get a seat out on the porch. We were waited on by Jennifer, who's the sister of the owner of the place. Very inviting looking ambience. We had the prime rib special and the filet mignon. Both were prepared perfectly along with the steamed vegetables that a company both. The steak fries were done very nicely, with a good blue cheese flavor. The bacon mac & cheese side was to die for! It was very, very good. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée. I like getting crème brûlée whenever a restaurant has it, so I can see how well they can prepare it. This restaurant did it very, very well, with great texture, proper temperature, and nice thin crispy sugar crust. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant! read more

This place is SOO GOOD. It is the literal definition of a great lunch. I got the Stillwater which was a chicken salad sandwich and it was amazing. I got a side salad and the ranch was phenomenal and obviously home made. My party of 4 all enjoyed their meals as well. Everything was fresh and I left feeling light and happy, yet full. It was the perfect balance of flavor and portions. I wish I lived closer to The Slanted Porch so I could eat there more frequently and treat my tastebuds more. Probably the best burger I've had in a long time! I had the Jalapeño Ranch Burger and added bacon. Was served with house made potato chips. I was in a good coma for hours. Food and ambiance is great. They have local sourcing for the menu, but they charge too much for sub par food. If you pay $22 for shrimp scampi, maybe more than 4 shrimp.... Maybe some noodles too?! Shrimp isn't even local. I've had the local burgers too. Nothing worth the cost. It's been voted "best in Fallon" but those people must be drunk or haven't been to a good restaurant. read more

I always go here for business meetings. This place has a menu of food that is delicious and the place always is accommodating to modifications. I usually get the cottonwood which is a real good sandwich. I recommend planning ahead to come to this location as it does tend to get busy and stay very busy. Pricing is fair for good home cooked meals. read more

Reopened for dinner service on Friday and Saturday nights, so we went last night. Amazing! Husband had the surf and turf, I ordered the filet. Both were perfectly cooked, top quality and delicious! House salad was included with bread served with oil/vinegar for dipping. The steak fries with Blue Cheese dressing we're crispy and flavorful and the vegetable side was fresh and also perfectly cooked. This place is clearly a locals lunch favorite as more then half of the tables were filled with some sort of uniform or work attire. The service was pretty darn good despite how busy they were. Great menu options for hungry bellies and smaller bellies. Didn't order the soup of the day but seemed to be a fav at lots of other tables. This place is amazing as are the owners and staff. We showed up as they were closing. We were tired and cranky and asked if they could recommend somewhere for us to have a salad. The owner went back inside and made us too delicious salads and his wife threw in 2 brownies. It was such a thoughtful gesture for them to do that for two travelers in less than stellar moods. In a large city, the Slanted Porch would be called a "quaint little mom and pop restaurant". But in Fallon.........it's upscale dining. It's the best you're gonna get in this town, hands down. Awesome food. Kind of expensive. Medium portions. The biggest problem is hours. They open with the frequency of a Stalinist Russia bread line. They only do certain meals on certain days of the week. You need to attend a 4-day seminar to figure out their schedule. Honestly it's probably not that hard, I'm just lazy and stupid. But add the fact that it's a tiny place, and again, the only real game in town for that level of dining, and the result is a packed restaurant at dinner time. Schedule and prices aside, it might not be fair to give them only 3-stars when the food is so good. But honestly it's hard to give an objective review in a town where your only other option is eating those fake burgers McDonald's makes out of cardboard and glitter. read more

Located in an old house a few blocks off of 50 on Taylor Street, the Slanted Porch is a welcoming and lively place at lunch and obviously a favorite of the locals. Friends and neighbors greeting each other, stop by tables to chat and admire a new baby. The lunch time crowd is animated but the noise level isn't so bad that you can't have a nice conversation. The menu offers a selection of sandwiches both hot and cold, various burgers, salads and a soup of the day. I ordered the the trio salad consisting of a scoop of egg salad, chicken salad and tuna salad. Of the three the egg salad was the best. The chicken salad was pretty dry and even the very good ranch dressing didn't do all that much to help. The greens were fresh but the advertised avocado was actually a dab of guacamole. Ever Love'n opted for 1/2 of a Monet Sandwich with a side salad. He thought it was pretty good but not super special. I shared a fair portion of my salad with him as the 1/2 sandwich was not super sized. We shared a creme brulee for desert that was denser then most. On the plus side the sugar crust was perfectly done. All things considered it wasn't a bad lunch. The staff is friendly. The service was good. The interior design is warm and inviting. There is a small bar with full service, a nice selection of wine and beers fairly priced. In warmer months they have outdoor dining on the patio. Note. Stopped here on a road trip, and was very impressed. One of the docents at the county museum had recommended it to us, and I am glad she did! This is a newer place, and well done. Whoever did the design inside deserves recognition, because the space is clean, open and bright. The natural wood is a nice touch. But the food! Sandwiches are their specialty, and I advise you to go that route. We had two variations on roast beef, and both were excellent. There are veggie options, PB &J, all types of bread to choose from; this place is refining the "art of the sandwich" one bite at a time. Also, they make their own potato chips, and I recommend you have them as a side. Delicious! Service was good, and our waitress was very personable. Died and gone to heaven. I found this place on Yelp, during one of those intermittent spots on highway 50 with cell coverage. So many stars ... now I know why. I had the Cottonwood - shaved fresh turkey, melted dill haverti, avocado, fresh sliced tomato, and garlic salsa on Dutch crunch bread. I rarely order turkey sandwiches, but intrigued by another reviewer, I gave it a go. It was true bliss. Matchstick style hot fresh french fries were a tasty accompaniment. (They even had the No High Fructose Heinz ketchup, although the fries didn't need it!) Daughter got the Homer - a PBJ on thick soft white bread -- and there were no complaints. The homemade potato chips were crispy, but just a little greasy. Her parents' fries were lighter. Hubby got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich - tender chicken, spicy mayo, lettuce, and avocado. His pronouncement on the sandwich - "awesome", and the fries - "excellent". The decor was beautiful. A calm green, with original artwork (for sale) on the walls. The floor was a nice light wood. Comfortable wooden chairs and tables. Our server, Luz, was terrific. Very friendly, very professional. She gave us just the right amount of time to make the difficult decision of what to choose, recommended the Dutch crunch bread (perfect for the Cottonwood), came back to refill my soda, and brought the check as soon as we were finishing our meal. My recommendation to fellow highway 50 travelers: you MUST stop here for lunch. But be warned -- your sandwich standards will never be the same. read more

This was my first time to see what all the hype was about. I ordered the cheeseburger which took an hour and tasted like a salt block. Fries were way salted aswell. Prices do not match quality... It's just another mediocre place in Fallon that think if they offer "local" it's okay to price gouge people. Do not waste your money. read more

After one year of patronage... Service: After two hours of sipping on our wine and enjoying our shrimp scampi, I asked our server where our dinner was? The server asked me if "I was in a hurry?" While I was enjoying my husband's company, waiting two hours for our main course is ludicrous. Food: After it finally arrived the steak that was ordered medium and arrived PAST well done and dried out. The rock cod was pungent and tough. When I sent the food back I was accused of wanting a comped meal, of which we hadn't eaten. The owner was ridiculously rude. After our discussion, he grabbed my credit card and threw it on the counter at my server. I did in fact pay for the meal as I felt the owner would make my server pay for the dinner entrees. The owner's reaction was unwarranted. We have travelled around the world and the United States and have truly eaten in "fine dining" restaurants. Thankfully 66 Center Bistro opened and we have another dining choice when we don't want to drive to Reno. read more

I tried this place again... for lunch. I went in with my grandfather who is your typical gruff and tough cowboy. A true test of the food is his reaction. He enjoyed his lunch. I enjoyed my lunch. We split the Cottonwood sandwich. It was quite yummy with the fresh salsa. They have changed my mind about their lunches. I am now interested to see how their dinners will fair. The service was great this time. I enjoy my meal with less profanity and more smiles. What really stuck out was the plans the SP has for the future. Well, I was reading the reviews yesterday and figured hey, why not. I thought it was a nice little place. The service was good and I enjoyed my food. I started with a bowl of creamy onion soup and it was delicious. For my entree I ordered a burger. What I really wanted was the NY strip with a lobster tail but I have a cold and I am slightly stuffy. If I order that meal I want to savor every bite so needless to say, I will return. Everything this place serves is locally farmed which I really believe in. That is awesome and a big plus in my book. The burger was cooked perfect and the bun was the freshest bun I think I ever had. The fries are made fresh and were crisp and delicious. I really want to return for the surf & turf with the steak fries and blue cheese dressing. The Slanted Porh is an absolute gourmet gem of a restaurant. A clean, well-lighted place with fresh fare. We feasted on Ruben and albacore sandwiches and a delectable Greek salad dressed in a creamy mint dressing. The sandwiches were perfection and the side of fries, crispy and hot. The Ruben was not greasy. The albacore on fluffy whole wheat was too big to finish. Both sandwiches also came with a brownie. Service was impeccable; fast and friendly. We learned that the chef employed a steady stream of culinary students from San Francisco. A true foodie find. read more

(Great venue by the way) My Dad called a pal of his who lives in Fallon and he recommended we all eat at The Slanted Porch. The word "porch" conjured up thoughts of a great dive that only Locals know about ~ Boy, was I wrong! This restaurant should not be under the category "sandwiches". It should be under "american cuisine". What a treat! And far from the dive I expected. The food was excellent! We had 2 Salmons, Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail and a Lamb plate. Also, terrific mixed greens salads (fresh from the local hot house) 2 Cocktails, 2 Glasses of Wine and a shared dessert ~ all for around $125!!! Unbelievable bargain regardless of where you are! The salads and a choice of potatos (I had some wonderful potato and blue cheese won-ton concoction) were included with the meals, which is rare these days. The beef is local and grass fed as well. The decor is sophisticated and charming at the same time. Simple wood farm tables, wooden floors, and local artist's wares on the walls. We had early reservations (5:30pm) and the place was empty when we arrived. Within 30 minutes every chair was filled and deservedly so! Good restaurant in a small town; friendly staff. This was our one meal in a restaurant during our whirlwind stop to visit the base. Seems like everyone on base likes this place as everyone we met somehow ended up there for lunch before departing the area. Most of us ordered the Kinkade, which we all felt was a solid choice. However, I was somehwat concerned at our waitress allowing one of the guys with me to order the Double Trouble Burger - should've made him fill out a health questionnaire and have a doc's approval. Muy peligroso!!!! Fortunately, he survived, but I think two of his shirt buttons popped off and remain embedded somewhere in the ceiling. Thanks for a good memory! This is a really good restaurant...not just Fallon good, but good even if it were located in a bigger city! A few friends and I decided to go to out for a nice dinner last Saturday night, and although the Slanted Porch is really the only fine dining restaurant choice in this entire city, it did not disappoint. They have a great, reasonably priced selection of beer and wine, and the food is amazing. I had the beef medallions with roasted red potatoes and broccolini. The beef was cooked consistently medium throughout, juicy and well-seasoned. The vegetables were also steamed to perfection. The portions were generous and the service was excellent, albeit a tad slow. I didn't mind though, because the restaurant was relaxing, quiet, and charming, and I the food was fresh and cooked deliberately and with care. The server even came out before we placed our order to tell us that if we wanted to order the lamb chops, we would have to do so early so they would have time to cook. She also told us that they only had one order of pork chops left in the kitchen, and if we would like to order them we would have to do so quickly before they sold out. Now THAT'S how you know a restaurant's meat is served fresh! Overall a great experience. If you're ever in the Fallon area and you're looking for a nice dining restaurant, go no further than The Slanted Porch. You don't really have much of a choice in the Fallon area, but you definitely be happy with this one. read more

This place is REALLY cute. I live in Reno so I wasn't thrilled about traveling to Fallon for lunch, but my friend insisted and I figured "what else have I got to do on a Saturday?". So, off we went. If you've ever driven from Reno to Fallon, you know how boring it can be, BUT this place is totally worth it. It was easy to find, with a large dirt lot for patrons to park in. The place itself looks like someone's house with a slanted porch :) The exterior was cute as a button and as soon as I entered the restaurant, I knew I was going to love it. It seems like a favorite place among locals and that is always a good sign! We were sat immediately and a very nice young man took our drink order(water, please!). After that, we waited maybe about 5 more minutes for our waitress to come over and take our orders. I ordered "The Slanted Porch Cheeseburger" because I wanted to keep it simple and base my thoughts on something that has been done many times, but wanted to see if it could be done well. Plus, I REALLY wanted a burger. Give me cow, please!! Anyway, the ambiance in this place is really mellow. They have cute, homey decor, soft listening music in the background, and an overall comfortable dining room. I didn`t order any booze but I saw a little bar towards the front of the restaurant with beers on tap. As a side note: The bathroom was very clean! Alright, onto the food! I got a HUGE plate of burger and fries. Good Golly Miss Molly! I was not sure I could finish it all but I dug in, cutting my cheeseburger in four pieces. It was love at first bite. They do a cheeseburger well here. Juicy, well seasoned, delicious. The cheeseburger had cheese(duh), lettuce, pickles, tomato. Oh, can I just RAVE about the buns? They are fantastic! Soft and pillowy. So yummy! Anyway, they do fries shoestring style here and I was digging it. They gave me a crazy amount of fries and I was fine by that(I also worked out later in the day!). I was in burger and fry heaven. Those fries were crispy but not too crispy, soft in the center but not soggy. Dip, eat, repeat. You know you want to. My friend had their Jalapeno burger and when I came up for air from my plate, there was nothing left on hers. I think she liked it! Service was courteous with a good amount of checking in on us without being annoying.
