I love to travel, and this time we decided to go for a true ranch experience in Fallon, Nevada. We came across this place, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions we made on the trip. Everything was absolutely delicious, but my favorite was the tri-tip sandwich -- hands down. You can truly taste the difference between real, fresh meat and processed food. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The only downside was that they ran out of biscuits and gravy that day, but after hearing a local mention that the tri-tip often sells out the day before, I'd say that's a good problem to have. Highly recommend stopping here if you're passing through or visiting Fallon. And if you're a local... you already know how good this place is. read more

We came in pretty late for biscuits and gravy and they had to run out. So we opted for the French toast and I honestly have to say it is the best French toast I have ever had. Initially we weren't sure as we pulled into a livestock arena but as soon as we got inside and our waitress (Jolene) started service we were more comfortable. BC of a gluten allergy I wasn't sure if I could eat but the owner/cook (Shelly) actually came to table and discussed the cooking process. I've been working out of Fallon for about 7 months and Wild Horse Cafe has become a staple for me. I make sure to eat here at least once a week, the food and customer service will always keep me coming back. The smothered omelet is my go-to meal, the gravy here is hands down the best I've ever had! I've tried a lot of things on the menu and haven't had anything that I didn't like. Truly a bang for your buck as well, always left satisfied after the meal and it's a great price for the portions. The cafe is cozy and the staff is always friendly and easy to talk to. If it looks like your GPS is bringing you into a stockyard then you are in the right place! Great food. Fries are the bomb. Just regular fries but cooked and seasoned to perfection. My wife and I drove out to Fallon on Saturday to try a restaurant that had been on our list for a while. There information online stated they were open on Saturday's but we did not call to check if they were open on this holiday weekend (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) and when we drove by they were closed. We were both hungry and quickly turned to Yelp and found the Running Iron Cafe was very close by. The exterior is nothing fancy but we decided to go in and check it out. Wow -- are we glad we did!!!! It's decorated very simply but it's clean and comfortable. There are a series of curtains that cover what looks like are cooler doors - we are assuming the space used to be a convenience store. There are about 10 tables and three booths and about half were occupied. We were immediately told to have a seat wherever we liked. We were brought menus, had our drink orders taken and told what the specials were. My wife decided to try the Philly burger special and I chose the pastrami burger. Our burgers were delivered in a timely fashion and looked amazing! We also couldn't help but notice as other plates were delivered as well - it all looked fabulous!!! Our burgers each came with fries and wow...the flavors were fabulous - everything was seasoned perfectly, the temperatures were just right and every bite was delicious!!!!!! The employees all were friendly and efficient. We asked our waitress (I wish we knew her name) how long they had been in this space and she said it had previously been owned by another person and that she and Michelle had recently purchased the restaurant - we told her how much we enjoyed our food and she was very pleased and sincere in hearing our feedback. She also told us that they planned to extend their hours in the near future. We will definitely be back and we would highly encourage others to stop in while in the area. Still a great place to eat, but this restaurant ran out of hash browns and ran out of sausage so we had to wait until the home made sausage was ground. This restaurant was at the Fallon Livestock Yard out on Highway 50 a year ago and now that it is in town, it's more convenient and a lot more crowded. They will need to plan accordingly (i.e. need more hash browns and sausage) Good food, large portions. great place for breakfast read more

This place served up the best breakfast I have eaten, literally, in years!!! I had the biscuits and gravy breakfast and my husband had ham and eggs. The biscuit was perfect, the gravy was absolutely delicious (no fake fate, perfect seasoning - did not have to use any salt or pepper) and my husband's ham steak was the best I have ever tasted (locally grown pork and beef products served here!!!)!!!! The service was very friendly and super fast! The price is RIGHT! We will make this stop every time we come through!! read more

We've been going to running iron for years. Back when we had two kids. Now we have four and Shelly welcomes all with huge open arms. The food is absolutely amazing, I always get the same thing "hot mess" That hot mess is everything but the kitchen sink. Fluffy soft biscuits topped with eggs your way, all the meats smeared with that creamy goodness they call country gravy with that shredded cheese thrown on top! The teenage girls working there had long faces the whole time. NONE of the staff cracked a smile. This is a hidden gem! A lot of people don't know about this place, because it's at the Fallon Livestock sale yard. Just off the hwy, the best omelettes but only can get Holliday sauce on Sundays, there chicken fried steak with Harvey is just like your grandma use to cook for you. Their service is awesome and your cup of joe won't run dry or cold! Orders are cooked right and fast, nothing is just thrown in the microwave. Everything is Fresh off the farm to the grill. When you walk in it's like you stepped back in time to a old small town diner and that's what this place is. You greeted and seated fast unless they are busy which in most of time. Stop here, no sign yet but now a favorite while traveling. Wow! What a find. Drive a motorhome and towing so need ample room to park. The restaurant is at a stockyard they have room for trucks and trailers and a huge parking lot. Now the food! Very good! My husband has the tritip burger with pablano peppers. Delicious! I had the lighter fair of chicken fingers. All very good with fries. It was recommended by another patron to eat anything tritip because all the beef and pork are locally sourced. read more

A nice locals style cafe/diner. The chef (also possibly owner) was very friendly and welcoming, and the waitress was kind and attentive. You could hear the chef's passion for her food and kitchen as she spoke to her staff about prep for the following day. We were started with a simple, yet fresh and tasty salad with house made dressing (which was excellent). My wife ordered the prime rib and was very happy with it. I tried a special of the day... pork tenderloin with brown sugar and bourbon! The chef personally delivered our dishes, and a few minutes later she brought me a bowl of the pork juice drippings in case the pork was too dry. This really kicked up the flavor and made it amazing! Our meal was finished with a slice each of lemon cheesecake, which was nice. We were very happy to stumble on this quaint but warm and welcoming place. So we came here for some breakfast as one of our friends recommended it. It lools like a mom and pops kinda restaurant and it sure was. We walked in and immediately felt welcomed! we were seated and shown the menu and asked of we wanted coffee. We opted for the buffet which had a nice spread, the waitress told us that we could order off the menu and basically we could order whatever we wanted and the kitchen would make it. Some of my friends got eggs w bacon and one even opten for this huge pancake! One of the best things was the cinnamon butter which was absolutely amazing on the bread, pancakes, you name it. The coffee kept coming and the food was very flavorful, usually as the foodie that i am i would est several places from a buffet menu, after 2 plates my stomach was happy and i was ready to go explore the town! The Running Iron Cafe's food has the best food in Fallon! Everything tastes like Grandma made it, and the portions are very generous. I stopped by for Friday night dinner (to-go), as our little one was sick and could not go out with us. They allow you to call and reserve not only a table, but your steak also! I thought that was really cool, as their Prime Rib is not something you want to miss out on. Tonight we ordered the Surf and Turf (8oz flat iron steak with panko-fried shrimp) and the Chicken with onions and peppers (Pan seared chicken topped with mushrooms, onions, and peppers in a garlic butter sauce). Both meals came with a side salad, mashed potatoes, carrots, and a dessert (banana cake and lemon cake). Their desserts and some menu items change regularly. Both meals were packed with flavor. My husband was thrilled with the chicken, and I appreciate a good steak cooked the way I order it. Having bread and butter with the meal was great. Dinner is served only on Friday nights starting at 5pm, but they are open daily from 7am-2pm with the same steaks on the menu. Their Sunday brunch (buffet style) is seriously delicious. Fresh, small batches of homemade sausage, eggs to order, and more for $10.99 I think it was. You can not beat the quality, never mind the price. Make reservations, even the day of! The food comes put pretty quickly, considering most of it is cooked right when you order it (minus food you prep, like mashed potatoes and bread). The owners are real nice people, and are almost always present and cooking. They've been working hard to make it a nice spot for good food and people, so you should give them a try.
