But the hike was just an excuse to go to The Slanted Porch for lunch - where everything is so delicious that it is hard to choose what to order. I absolutely love their Rueben sandwiches - mostly because of a) the meat is so tender and b) the bread is so fresh and c) they put just the right amount of melted cheese, sauerkraut, and spread on the it. I opted for a 1/2 Rueben sandwich with a side of clam chowder - so, so good. All that for only $10.99. This is the place we always head to in Fallon. The food, sandwiches, burgers and salads, are always up to par. It can be somewhat noisy during the lunch hour but if you grab a table outside (weather permitting), you lose the noise. You can't go wrong stopping for lunch here. read more

Having traveled from Reno to Fallon and unfamiliar with the local fare we, by chance, stopped at The Slanted Porch for lunch. What luck! In a very charming building with a most pleasant atmosphere we enjoyed crispy French fries, a perfect hot pastrami sandwich, and a delicious bowl of lentil soup......even the Arnold Palmer was a perfect blend of tasty tea and good lemonade. Dined here for lunch. They have indoor, outside and bar seating. The food and service was great! The only issue I see is their hours. They close at 3pm. They alo have a full bar. Even though our party was large, they were prompt with service. It is recommended to have reservations if CAG is in town because a lot of us frequent this restaurant. This place never disappoints!! Everything here is good, from the location, service, staff, drinks all the way to the food and the little piece of heaven (brownie) they give you after your meal. Everything is so good !! Today I had the fresh lemonade, and the gobbler sandwich with a side of home cut fries. It was all delicious !! I've gone to Slanted Porch several times for lunch to have their delicious sandwiches but tonight I wanted to try out their dinner menu. They are open for dinner on Friday and Saturdays. We were given fresh bread and oil for dipping. For our entrees I got shrimp scampi with clam chowder soup and my husband got BBQ ribs with French fries. Everything was delicious! I really enjoyed the claw chowder soup. It was thick and creamy. For dessert, Creme Brûlée. It's the perfect spot for date night with the intimate atmosphere, tasty menu and great service. read more

When in Fallon.... On a day trip to Frey Ranch Distillery, we made reservations based on a family recommendation, to check out this cute, highly rated eatery on the way. As it was a beautiful day this past Saturday, we opted to eat outside (there's also indoor dining at socially distanced tables). They do adhere to CDC guidelines. so, mask up! Easily located on the 95 (though this part of 95 is a 2 lane road), situated in a converted house that is super cute and comfy. Plenty of seating outside and in, street and lot parking. Service is attentive and friendly. We were greeted immediately and were shown to a picnic table outside. Though it was on the street side, it was still quiet. Our server came out quickly with ice water with lemon, served in mason jars. Our drink order was taken while we perused the menu...lots of great sounding choices (see photos). We started with an order of the hand cut french fries and a side of the house made ranch dressing. Fries certainly hand cut, crunchy and flavorful, topped off by the scrumptious house made ranch. The soup of the day was a curry carrot soup, topped with artistic sour cream. As we make our own curry cauliflower soup, we had to try this. I went for half sandwich soup combo with the Picasso as my choice (pastrami with melted swiss on rye). A decent size (not Manhattan Deli, for sure) and hit the spot. My wife had the Stillwater, a lemon garlic chicken salad that was topped with lettuce tomato, onion and mayo. A thumbs up. The hit of the meal was the curry carrot soup, thick and creamy with just the right amount of curry. Great flavor. Fallon isn't known as the culinary center of the world. So, when I discovered this place for dinner a few years ago, I was very, very surprised. I had the steak and lobster which was one one of the best meals I've had. Sadly they stopped doing dinners and only serve up lunch until they close at 3. I went with a cup of clam chowder which proved to be absolutely delicious. Then I ordered a sandwich which one doesn't find very often - a Monte Cristo. And, I must say it was perfect. Wow!! Cute little restaurant off of Taylor in Fallon. It's an older home converted into a restaurant and has a porch - may not be slanted, but I didn't get into the detail. Staff are courteous and friendly. Fallonites have tended to complain about the price, but I believe that they are comparable to most any in Northern NV. I had the turkey sandwich for lunch which has cream cheese and cranberry sauce. Great sandwiches. This place is a great find for lunch! read more

I've been gearing about their burgers for years, so the wife and I decided to drive out over the weekend, and it did not disappoint.

Pros: the food is pretty good, nice presentation and atmosphere. The service has never been poor or inadequate, so I'd say this restaurant is one of the better options in Fallon in that regard. Cons: the food is overpriced, especially their lunch menu. I ordered a sandwich here and wasn't told fries were an up charge, nor that you're charged .75 cents for a BOX. So one sandwich with fries ends up being 17$, which is unreasonable especially in a working class town. There's no way a small brown paper box Costs the establishment .75 cents. We've stayed overnight in Fallon maybe eight times in the last dozen years and in each of those stays we've had not one good dinner. Until this last visit a couple of weeks ago, when we were fortunate to discover The Slanted Porch. We enjoyed good food, friendly service, a bright and welcoming interior, darned good libations and all for a reasonable price. VALUE: Two entrees, that came with a choice of garden salad or homemade soup, two cocktails, one dessert and a cup of coffee clocked in, before tax and tip, at just north of $50. A good deal. . Some menu entrees were as little as $10 and some as much as $24ish with many options in the $16 range. LIBATIONS: Full bar here. Of memorable note, given we had a nine hour driving day before arrived at The Slanted Porch, were the Tanquery and tonics with a kick that were only $6 each. FOOD: Dinner entrees ranged from pastas with shellfish to mac n cheese to a fish option to chicken to pork chops to burgers to steak. This might be a tough place for a vegan to dine, but for a vegetarian seems doable with some creativity. The kitchen seemed accommodating. Here's one tip - the delicious sun dried tomato and artichoke sauce that comes on top of a grilled chicken breast is wonderful as a vegetarian friendly option to top pasta. Worth noting they offer mac n cheese, in a nice individual casserole dish, as a standard side option with any protein entree. Or you can order mac n cheese as an entree on its own. Mac n cheese is one of my favorites, and this was a really good one. Even my hubby, normally a mac n cheese fan, wanted me to share my order with him. SERVICE: Friendly in an unvarnished small town way. Servers also went out of their way to let diners know that as much as possible, the kitchen works with local sources to obtain their raw ingredients. A good sign. THIS N THAT: a) HOURS: Lunch several days a week. Open for dinner only on Friday and Saturday. b) RESERVATIONS: Recommended to ensure dinner seating but we arrived about 6:30 and left about 8:00 and about half the tables were still open. c) PARKING & ACCESSIBILITY: For diners who can't navigate the stairs at the front of the restaurant, note there is a fully accessible, ramped in entry at the side door. That's the good news. The bad news is the adjacent parking lot is gravel which can be impossible for users of wheelchairs. read more

It seemed to be pretty pricy for a sandwich with a "mixed green" salad aka lettuce. However, the service was great and I really liked the atmosphere. Best burgers in town, one of the best I've had period. They raise beef and use at the restaurant, ground beef in house and local potatoes for fries. Bun is local baked too. Had to come into Fallon to do some business and arrived in town just in time for lunch. So glad to find this little gem!!! I believe pretty much EVERYTHING is homemade- from the tea to the ranch dressing to the sauerkraut on the Ruben! And let me you, the French fries are thin and crispy and amazing but the house made chips are worth the price of admission!! The service is amazing and they even grow some of their own produce in the greenhouse on their property. We enjoyed a Ruben, the Cristo, and a Jalapeño Ranch Burger. Everything was amazing!! I've heard such rave reviews that when I got my sandwich and (sub side of) soup today for about $20+ to go, I was a little disappointed. The bread (Dutch Crunch) was very good, though, as was the soup (Chicken Tortilla). But the sandwich wasn't even "full" of meat, and (possibly thanks to my request of no horseradish sour cream) was rather dry. However I appreciated the tortilla strips included in my to go box and apparently a sweet complimentary brownie bite. I did like the parking and the ambience. Will probably try again. read more
