Came from out of town for a weekend- Called- was told you could just walk in. We did but they were very busy.... I would suggest making a reservation. Wait was not long at all. They have a great menu! Something for everyone. From sandwiches to surf and turf and pasta to salads. Was told their pizza was a must try. It was very good.... Would love to go back and try an actual dinner. Salmon/ prime rib-etc Good food- A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Really good portions. Worst Dining Experience...EVER! We entered this "supper club" at 3:00 in the afternoon for a late lunch and only one of the twenty tables was occupied. We waited by the "Please Wait for Hostess to Seat You" sign, but instead of a hostess, we were greeted by a gruff bartender yelling across the room, "Do you have a reservation?" My wife and I both laughed, figuring he was making a joke. Turns out he was deadly serious. We said we didn't, but he said he'd try to make room for us (still not joking). The hostess came over with menus and we asked if people actually needed a reservation for 3:00. She deadpanned back, "Well of course, this is a supper club." The surly waitress then took our orders, but our next faux pas was ordering a baked potato (which was listed as a side) to our entree. You'd have thought we asked for caviar or truffles. We were informed that "baked potatoes aren't actually available until 5:00." OK, we'll find some other side...we should have left and found another place to eat. Prices were outrageous, everyone was rude, and the food was barely edible (unless you love fried food). I had a breaded tenderloin sandwich which was fried in incorrect oil for breaded tenderloins and the meat was so thick it was like eating a battered pork chop. I tried, but only managed to eat half. It literally made me sick to my stomach. (Or perhaps it was the warm cole slaw). At least the fries were good. The sound of the bartender yelling at everyone who came in, "Do you have a reservation?" is still ringing in my ears 10 hours later. My advice: McDonald's is just down the road a mile. I'd recommend you eat there instead. read more

Amazing place!! Waitress and bar staff was amazing! We ordered customer pizza and took the left overs home. Certainly the best pizza in a long time!! The surf and turf was great. On Friday and Saturday they have prime rib that is fantastic.

This has always been one of our "go to" places, and yesterday (Sunday) was a perfect example as to why. I ordered the Ribeye Steak Sandwich and it the most tender steak I've had in some time! Ambiance: Nice looking restaurant upon arrival. We were seated quickly. The noise level was at a decible impossible to converse. I had seen they had, killer bread, with good reviews online. Waitress never heard of it. Said she'd check & never responded. Ihad salmon & husband had scallop. The salmon was average and the dill sauce-awful. I have eaten here many times but tonight was awful and may be my last time. As soon as we walked in and I should have left because the whole restaurant smelled of sewer back up. The hostess sat us and brought us water. A few minutes later, the server came by asked if we were ready to order. We said we need a few more minutes. 15 minutes later she returned, took our order stated she had a large table and would put our food in first. A salad and the French onion soup came out shortly afterwards we never saw her again and I wanted to have her take the soup back because it was very cold I finally motioned the hostess and she took the soup for me. The server brought it back several minutes later again it was cold. We waited for our food which took much longer than expected. The server asked us if we need anything else and we said no she came back one other time and I did not cut into my prime rib yet... when I did it was cold. No au jus sauce other than what was on the plate and most of that was spilled by a server on the table who helped bring out food. Bbq ribs were cold and not tasty. This server came by to bring us the check and asked if there was something wrong and I stated yes the prime rib is cold. She then became irritated and told me that I should have told her that she is pregnant and she was going from the back room to the front room And she was busy. I really am a compassionate person and I understood that however, I wasn't going to send my prime rib back when I sent the soup back and it came back cold. She ended up taking it off my bill and I didn't ask for that to be done, I've review many restaurants. I just feel that tonight's meal could have been a lot better and maybe they have a new Cook that was overwhelmed in the kitchen, which I would completely understand. When we arrived, there was only one party in the back room and two people sitting in the restaurant with us, after an hour, we saw another waiter and another waitress show up so I hope the rest of the patrons had a good dinner and service. read more

Husband and I stopped in for a late lunch. There was only one other table seated when we got there. The waitress/bartender was really nice and waited on us immediately. She took our drink order and returned with it within 5 minutes, and then left us to sort out what we wanted to eat. She kept an eye on us and was back as soon as we put down our menus. I had the chicken Caesar salad and husband had the French dip. They were both tasty and plentiful. It took about 15 minutes to get our food. A pretty unremarkable visit to The Sleepy Owl. A conundrum here: Do I rate it a 1 because over all the decades this place has been in business they've done zero to change the acoustics - you literally have to nearly yell at your table-mates, or a 5 because the food is amazing? If you want quiet, eat outside on the patio. For our friend who had a hearing aid, the high volume din made inside dining a pain. The walls are rock and solid panels, the ceiling old time plaster, there is no attempt to make the atmosphere such where a group could have a normal decibel level conversation. Food wise - 2 in our group had the tenderloin, which is you know Indiana, that means a sandwich where the meat overhangs the bun by 2 or 3 inches all the way around - delicious in every way. My wife had the baked cod with herbs and I had chicken parmesan. Both were excellent, top notch, the portions huge. I especially liked the endless salad (ala Olive Garden) which went with my chicken parmesan perfectly. I ate one bowl and had it refilled. We'd all go back, but next time sit outside. It is a local institution and even on a Monday night we were glad we made reservations. Lots of fun all things considered. read more

Went here yesterday for my dad's birthday for a late lunch. The food was just not good. Likely the worst un-fresh food I've had or seen in a while. The owners truly need to change things up and get a new chef (whoever is 'cooking' in the kitchen should be embarrassed with what they are putting out) and consider incorporating some fresh product and produce in their dishes. Every thing other than ice berg lettuce and cucumbers, from what I can tell, is either from a can, a package or frozen and microwaved or deep fried. Was told by a friend that the only thing worth getting here that is good is a cocktail, particularly a Manhattan. I believe this statement. I would never ever go back. We have arrived without reservations on a Sunday afternoon and had great service. We had guests with us and children, so we were in the family section. Since we were not there "in season" it was not crowded. The menu had a good selection for everyone at the table and the food was very good. I travel to the area to visit family several times per year. The Sleepy Owl was always at the top of our list for can't miss dinners, until our last trip. We asked to sit at the bar and the tender reluctantly agreed. It did look like they had been busy as there were plates and empty bottles everywhere. No big deal, we weren't in a hurry and didn't mind the clutter until they got it cleaned up. Well, they never did. We got an education in what they e couldn't order, received poorly prepared food that didn't match the menu all while overhearing how much the servers and the bar tender didn't want people there. I have not seen such poor service or poorly prepared meals. All the worse is that for years this restaurant built our expectations time and again. We used to eat here from time to time, when we were at the lake on our speedboat, often getting dinner at the Owl, before heading back to Fort Wayne, after a long day on the lake. Good food, decent staff, but I changed my mind on that a while back, when we were on a motorcycle ride for charity one Saturday morning. After the ride, I invited a few of our friends, and my brother to stop in with us for a late lunch. We rode about 45 minutes to get to the Owl. As soon as we walked through the door, we were made to feel unwelcome. The entire staff watched us like hawks. After being seated, we were not waited on for probably 10 minutes. Finally, a waitress came to our table and said "They've asked me to ask you folks to leave the restaurant". I said, "Excuse me, but why?? Because we're wearing leather and helmets?" She said "They just don't want to serve you". I said, "I get that, but my wife and I have been coming here off and on for years, and we just rode to Syracuse specifically to eat here. What's the problem?" She smartly said "Look, I'm sorry, but please just leave, or we'll have to call the police". We got up and quietly left (My guests were already getting up). I did tell the waitress that we are leaving today, but we'll never be back. She said "That's fine, thank you". I was beyond embarrassed after inviting friends and family to join us for lunch at what we THOUGHT was a great place to eat. What does it matter if we were on motorcycles, or driving our car? I was ex U.S. Navy enlisted , and an off duty police officer at the time. My brother was ex US Navy enlisted, and one other rider was a retired Army officer, and a retired police officer, but I didn't feel it necessary to state that to this young woman, or her ignorant boss. We were upstanding citizens, judged as trash by actual trash. The wife and I vowed to never return, and we haven't. We now keep a cabin cruiser at the marina on Wawasee, and frequently spend our weekends onboard, but we have kept our promise not to return to the Owl. Instead, we choose from other great restaurants in Syracuse, who are quite happy to take our money, and are judgement free, especially when the wife and I bring a larger group of people with us. By the way, I still ride a $40k motorcycle, still do many charity rides, and still wear leather. We also are members of a large Jeep group, and have been through Syracuse several times. We've had good sized groups of people with us, and have been asked to stop at the Owl on occasion, but I ALWAYS say "Absolutely not!", and I tell them why. I don't patronize any business that's either woke, judgmental, or exhibits any level of discrimination. read more

The Sleepy Owl was well worth it and I will go back next time we are in the area! They had a great selection of Three Floyd beer and the food was FANTASTIC! We had the Siracha BBQ Burger and the house specialty pork tenderloin sandwich. They were both awesome! The tenderloin sandwich had enough meat on it for three normal sandwiches. Visited this restaurant on July 14, 2021. I would have to say the best part of our experience was our server, her name is Kabrea she was wonderful !!! We ordered several different items from broasted chicken to the filet mignon. The steaks were cooked as ordered, but for a filet not so good, tough and chewy, and they were cooked med rare. The menu looked good. The atmosphere was nice. The waitress was terrible. There was a male waiter for other tables who seemed like he was trying. The service was just terrible. Our waitress seemed annoyed and quick to leave, even when asking questions about the menu. A group of 4 came in after we ordered and after we got our salad (the first time) and they got their food before we even would have. The third person in our party never got their soup, even after asking the waitress FOUR times. The waitress had excuses about the kitchen, but showed up at our table with two salads again, after we had already eaten our salads. How clueless! It was obvious we weren't the only tables having issues. We asked for our bill and they brought a bag out with our food boxed! We ended up going to the oak wood resort restaurant and saw 2 other groups of people there who were at this place with terrible service. read more
