This place is the best sex shop in Minnesota if not in the whole mid-west...I'm sure there is a better sex shop in Vegas otherwise I'd have to say its the best in the country!!! Smitten Kitten is awesome for many reasons, but I will share a particular experience that highlights this awesomeness: I was discussing with the clerk about how awful most lubricants taste. Totally awful, right? It's like they don't expect anyone to ever put these things in their mouth. But maybe someone would like to some day, right? She offered a clever solution. Why not just taste the lube before I bought it? Genius. I found one that was a little pricy, but had almost no smell or taste. Fantastic. Frankly, there just isn't a better store at least in the midwest for "toys." I love the background of the feminist owner, women's studies all the way. As a feminist, a health educator, and just someone who expects pleasant customer service, I love going to this store. I always leave having learned a couple new things - things you wouldn't ever think to explore but now that you know, you need to meet up with all your girlfriends for coffee just to tell them! I bought my very first vibe from "The Smitten Kitten," so I will always have a special place for them. It's a beautiful shop filled with dildos, vibes, and other toys arranged like exquisite sculptures. And not just any old dildos, vibes, and toys, they carry well-made, hard to find and handcrafted items. The people working there are smart, helpful, LGBTQ friendly, feminist friendly, womyn friendly, etc. Before coming to them, I had no idea that some products being sold in other stores contain dangerous chemical compounds or are far from hypoallergenic . . . Smitten Kitten directed me to a lovely, healthy, enviromentally friendly product. In fact they care so much about this issue, they've even started a non-profit called "Coalition Against Toxic Toys." First off I have to start by saying I love to support this local sex positive shop in Uptown. The staff are very knowledgeable and supportive without being in your face. I like supporting this place, despite it's rather pricey selection of gadgets and doodads. They usually have some sort of discount if you check in via yelp but not sure about other social media. They have a great selection of bulk condoms in various sizes (yeah large) and are usually priced half of what you'd pay another place. Recently I went in to purchase a wedge like piece of furniture and had settled upon some sort of Liberator device. Unfortunately their selection was slim to non and I made an order despite being told it would be 3-4 weeks! Sheesh, I had already found cheaper faster free shipping via amazon but you know it's amazon. After three weeks I came in to pick up my device and was disappointed to find that they had ordered the Axis hitachi and not the regular axis that I had wanted which was half as much but I went with it as I was not waiting any longer and I was able to get the price down with a 15% off Yelp check in. Con: Today I discovered that the Liberator website had the axis hitachi marked down 20% from $150 to $130. I was quated the #130 price, so got 15% off that which was cool; however, here's the kicker. They also had the regular axis on clearance for $95 and then on top of it they where giving another 20% off the clearance prices and free 3-5 day shipping so I ended up paying twice as much for not exactly what I wanted. There is a no return policy on furniture also I see from my receipt :/ I'd seriously consider ordering from Liberator directly in the future to ensure getting the best price and faster delivery as there is no reason in my mind that I should be have to wait so long to get something I ordered when I can go directly online and get it faster and significantly cheaper. I first visited this store in November 2012 after driving past for years. A friend suggested it, so I finally made a visit. I was expecting the typical novelties and was so pleasantly surprised by what I found. Very tasteful, mature, comfortable environment. I was really impressed by the professionalism of the staff and store itself. Very respectful and not gimmicky. I especially appreciate the ability to see and touch and smell the various products throughout the store. This place was reccomened to me and I've heard very positive things about it, I was looking forward to visiting on my trip to Minneapolis. After reading the other reviews on Yelp I thought this would be the perfect place for a person new to this type of stuff to go. I went in to look for a nice, high end toy for my wife. The staff treated me very poorly. They acted very snobby and seemed to expect that I should know everything about these products before I came in. I didn't have an exact product in mind, but I knew basically what I wanted. They did not have anything near what I wanted. I suppose I should've guessed that when I walked in to see a practically empty sales floor. I left very disappointed. Meh. It's a good shop, but having lived in Madison, WI, near A Woman's Touch, and having visited Toys in Babeland and Good Vibrations, I'm not super impressed. The selection is decent, but I never find myself looking at something and thinking, "I NEED that!" which happens when I go to the above mentioned locations. Plus, they've never been terribly friendly toward me when I go in with my husband. I went in once by myself and the staff was much more attentive and friendly, but every time I go with my husband we get the cold shoulder. I even stood beside an an employee for a while waiting for her to get off the computer so I could ask her a question. She never got off the damn computer or even looked up at me, so we left. Another irritation... They refuse to carry Liquid Silk because of the PVC containers (but I'd be willing to be their plumbing is all PVC) and do not have an adequate substitute. They don't carry Liquid Silk for a political/environmental reason, but they carry Deep Throat!?!? The woman in Deep Throat had stated she was forced by violence to partake in the filming of that video, but PVC is bad?!? I don't get it. read more

Two girlfriends and I went into the shop because one needed to spice up her relationship. There were about 5 people in there, all young women. We found a certain item and were giggling and commenting on it. The male worker at the store came up to us and pretty much chastised us for laughing-making a comment about not to "yuk at someone else's yum." That being said, I can guarantee the way he spoke to us was far more offensive than the way we were talking. He treated us like children and in the most condescending manner. I am pretty confident that because we were all young professionals in after work attire, that he was turning his noise up at us for not being "cool or hipster" enough to appreciate the items. I also wanted to be clear that we were planning on buying something until he treated us in such a condescending way. I understand wanting to avoid offending other patrons who might be into what we were laughing about, but what about chastising, offending, and being condescending to potentially paying patrons who then did not buy anything because of his behavior? When you're a single girl in the cities, places like the Smitten Kitten are a blessing. Sex World may be amusing when you're drunk, but certainly not the sort of place you'd want to purchase anything that goes anywhere near your girly bits. That's not an issue here. While the store is small, and the selection is limited, everything is kept clean and orderly. The people are very personable and the atmosphere is relaxed. You never find yourself rounding a shelf and hoping like hell that you're not about to stumble upon some creeper taking care of certain urges. Kinky, but still classy. My first visit was to accompany a friend on a quest for a new toy. I was just there for giggles. The sales person extolled all her knowledge about G-spot location and stimulation...next thing I know I'm walking out of the store with a bag and can't get home fast enough. The lingerie here is the only pitfall. Most of the offerings look like something Blanche from the Golden Girls would wear. Not anything you'd want to stroll out of your bedroom in if you were trying to be seductive. Unless your bedroom is at a nursing home. I won't be going back there again. They claim to have high quality toys. Their prices show it but I found the quality to be just the same as any other toy store. After paying over $100 for a toy, I opened the box at home just to find out the silicone was rough and worn. And, in pressing the vibe bullet, it didn't work consistently. It was as if it was a demo. I put it back in the box and went back to the store. The customer service was very poor and unprofessional. After being responded to in a patronizing tone, I found that I finally had to raise my voice just to make an exchange. I am all for supporting female owned small businesses and I felt guilty for having to make this return. I ended up picking out something twice as much so I can try to make up some sort of difference monetarily. I was treated very unprofessionally by the same staff member again who did not even look at me and I got not even a thank you. Then I ended up apologizing! (I wish I wouldn't of.) I bought two of the "Rain" bullets. Both were defective. I reported it. They fixed the problem with no hassle and provided replacement. The replacement item worked for a few days then failed. I also bought a thin vibrator that really did work well, but then it stopped too. I have one remaining item I bought there and after about two weeks of daily use it still works. So...in a total of 5 products, 4 failed within less than two weeks. Now I do know the store will work with me to make this right. They do care about their business, but frankly I am not all that interested in products that fail...no matter how many times the are cheerfully replaced or refunded. I sympathize because Chinese products can never be trusted, and this store is the victim of a bad manufacturers in China, but I think I'll have to look elsewhere in the future. read more
