I stopped at the Monroe Ave location today on 03/21/2024 to replace a battery in my elderly uncle's watch that he loves. It was not an easy case to open. They did it in under 10 minutes while I waited, and since I had brought a battery, they did not charge me anything. I did give them a minor tip and was VERY grateful for their kindness and expertise. I am saddened that I did not get the young lady's who waited on me or the lady who was their watch expert. 100% great start to my day. read more

I took a diamond ring to them, that was purchased from them over 30 years ago, gave them the guarantee certificate of value, I was given 30 years ago. I was asked "this is a $999.00 special diamond ring" and we will not be able to offer you anything. So what does that mean? So, they don't guarantee their product. I have been going to Greece for a lot of years and will never go back again. Never buy anything from them. You pay for a lifetime warranty but then when you go to use it once they tell you it expired. I was told by multiple people that a spa treatment to fix my ring wouldn't cost me anything to then getting a call saying I will have to pay even though we paid for the lifetime warranty. We probably looked at every ring in the store to purchase our wedding bands and she was extremely patient and very knowledgeable in helping us do so. She also did not push when I told her I wanted to think about my wedding band, and my husband and I left and returned at a later date to purchase. She helped my husband pick out my engagement ring as well as wedding gift and I don't care if it was all his idea or mostly hers because what I have are two great symbols of his love for me. I've purchased a wedding band for my husband at The Source twice -- fifteen years apart. The original ring was yellow gold with a white gold overlaying band. He loved the ring, really, which is quite impressive since he wears no other jewelry. It was still in excellent condition eleven years later when a communication debacle sent it into the depths of the City of Rochester's land fill. (Yep, accidentally got vacuumed up and discarded in the trash.) *deep, deep sigh* Fast forward to last week when we purchased his replacement ring. This time we went for Tungsten, which allegedly is hypoallergenic. My hubby's profession requires an inane amount of hand-washing so we are hoping he will have less of a reaction to soap buildup on his finger. He's worn it for a week and loves it equally. The staff at The Source is professional and kind. I wish they were a little more welcoming, and had a bit more enthusiasm, but that's somewhat trivial. They are typically older than those that are found at the mall jeweler's, which makes me feel like they have more experience and knowledge. It appears that they have a much longer turnover rate, so you may see the same employee -- even if you haven't visited in a while. I believe the prices to be reasonable and feel that's due in part to location: they're not paying the high mall rents. They are also not spending large amounts on flashy advertising campaigns. And again, I cannot overemphasize this enough: it's a locally-owned business! Gotta support the little guy whenever we can, but especially when they sell quality merchandise at an affordable price. read more

I am disappointed in the Source and will not be returning. My first experience was very good- I had a gold plated bar necklace with a terrible chain so The Source helped me replace the chain with a perfect gold one. The were lovely and fun to work with. About 14 months later the chain broke as I was putting the necklace on so I brought it back to them to fix. The woman who took my necklace looked me up in the system and said "we'll take care of it. We will call you when it is ready to pick up." No mention of an estimate so of course I sighed a grateful sigh and thought all good thoughts about The Source. A few days later- I was called with an estimate. My calm expression of disbelief and disappointment was met with only a reassurance that that sales person would be "talked to" but no budge on the cost. Now- the cost was reasonable. But- if some one tells a customer it won't cost a thing- honor that! I am annoyed at the woman who told me it would be covered but maybe she was just helping the store keep it's customers and truly believed it would be free. I am more annoyed at the woman who wouldn't cover a $30 repair to keep a customer. If I had been told I'd be contacted with an estimate I would happily pay but that wasn't the case. I won't ever go back- my family won't ever go back- and I don't think you should go either. read more

Went there to sell a diamond ring. Offered me 800.Went to a diamond buyer in Ontario NY and was offered 1600.. The funny thing was, I was asking for 1500 and they told me that 1600 was more a more suitable price for my piece. The Source says "Trust a real Jewelry" yet another company that specializes in diamond and jewelry buying offered more. The Source may be good for selling jewelry but not buying. Terrible experience. They mislead my fiance and I about the engagement ring setting and quality of the diamond; and, were extremely unhelpful and unfriendly when I brought the ring back to the store to voice my concerns. I had four different jewelers tell me the ring wasn't set properly, but The Source in Pittsford said there was "nothing wrong with it". I ended up trading it in with a reputable jeweler, thus losing money in the whole deal - now I have a better quality ring that has been set properly. The Source does not stand behind their product and their salespeople turn off the friendly, helpful attitude as soon as you have a problem with what they sold you. read more
