    CHICKEN SCHNITZEL

We stumbled across this gem on a recent trip out to Kiawah Island. We went in at an odd time of day and were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant has a pretty good variety of dishes, and it was hard to choose because several sounded so good. We started with the poutine, which had fried cheese curds on top. It was really yummy! We each tried a different sandwich or burger, and each satisfied our cravings. This place is worth a visit if you are in the area!

The Southern General off of Maybank is tucked away off the street closer to Builders First Source. Smaller restaurant only serving beer and wine but the food is amazing!! Small locals place so great vibe here and the staff are amazing and friendly! If you have not gotten their Sweet Tea Wings Get Them they taste amazing!! They are my go to when I am craving wings and on this side of John's Island!! Oh and the Burgers are delicious!! Easy 5 Stars !

    Only the best sloppy joe...ever!

Get Guy Fieri here! This has a quintessential dive feel to it but the food is amazing! I had the Sloppy Joe...wow! Pimento cheese slathered on a sloppy joe with cream cheese, toast and cucumber salad?! I mean...it was unreal. Spicy, sweet, creamy. All delish. And the fries are homemade. Get them. Crispy and hot, dipped in some Heinz ketchup. You won't be upset. The bartender/manager was super nice too. I will definitely be back when travel takes me back to Charleston.

We arrived about 45-minutes before closing and were promptly greeted by our host Riannon, and sat down. In seconds our drinks were on the way. My wife enjoyed the house salad (small). I enjoyed the chicken schnitzel sandwich. Everything was fresh and hot and very tasty.

I've been here a few times. The food is always good and the service is always amazing. I had the potato soup and the kale salad.

    Grilled shrimp salad

We had the house salad with shrimp and the Buttermilk Fried Pork Shnitzel. Everything was excellent. The pork Shnitzel was hugh I highly recommend it. Outstanding service as well.

I love that this place is close enough for take out. The cheese curds are my favorite thing on the menu along with the chicken schnitzel. They also have delicious daily specials. The staff is always kind and the food stays hot during the drive home. The inside of the restaurant is adorable, but a bit small which is why we typically bring it home. A gem on the island.

I've enjoyed my meals here and feel like the ingredients are fresh. Sandwich combinations are delicious and creative. I've only gotten takeout so can't talk much about the service.

Sat at the cozy bar, which seats about six people. There are a good amount of local beers to choose from like Edmunds Oast and Revelry. The food was amazing! We sampled the onion dip, poutine, chicken schnitzel and sloppy joe. My favorite was the chicken schnitzel sandwich; however, the sloppy joe was a close second. We left feeling full and happy! It's hidden a little bit if you're driving by quickly! Make sure to pull into the parking lot and stop on by.

Time to update my review of this regular Wednesday night place to eat. Really busy and crowded tonight when we arrived about 6:00 p.m. after the rain had been pelting the lowcountry but it slacked off quite a bit. We came in and were greeted by our favorite waitress Mallori who as always was really busy. Thankfully she had some good waitress help (Ashley?). Too busy for anything but a quick conversation and let us know that the special up there on the chalkboard of a chicken salad sandwich with bacon only had one left. Eventually my wife decided on that and it was so big that she brought home half of it. [The size of it can be seen in the photograph for today July 20, 2022.] Although Wednesdays are prime rib night where you can select one of two sizes, I opted for the Angus burger to which I added Applewood bacon slices (two of those) and cheddar. [See photo.] Beware of the big red, round onion slices which almost cover the entire large Angus burger. I always pull about half of them at least off of the burger when I have it. As we got there before 7, it was still happy hour (4-7 PM) and thus it was $1 off for my beer and $1 off for my wife's wine. The only complaint that I had is that the owner has changed the computer system to automatically put an "industry charge" of 20% on any bill whether it is for takeout or eat in. If it was not for the favorite waitress of ours and the always good food I frankly would go somewhere else and avoid the 20% upfront charge which supposedly is to be divided among all of the staff including the kitchen staff. I want to make sure that Mallori is covered so I always had a tip on for her. Will we be back? Of course.

The service and food were wonderful. My wife had the Chillian Sea Bass special and said it was one of the best meals she has ever had.

Amazing little gem on Johns Island. The burger was among the best ever for me. Cooked perfectly and juicy. Will definitely return.

We came for delicious seafood. It says closed Monday. Is this just temporary?? Thanks for the answers! Apparently Simply Seafood and The Southern General are close enough to pick up each other's check ins!! LOL We were at Simply Seafood!

Southern General is open on Mondays. Maybe there are other businesses on JI that are closing on Mondays now. Sunday is the only day when Southern General is completely closed.

It's a truly lovely, relaxed setting--perfect for sitting down, catching up, and enjoying a slower pace. While the service was kind, it felt a bit less attentive than expected, especially since the restaurant wasn't very busy. We found ourselves needing to ask for a few basics like place settings and salt and pepper, which took away slightly from the overall experience. As for the food, there were definitely some highlights. The scrambled eggs were impressively fluffy and generous in portion--closer to four eggs than two--and the peach jam was a standout touch. The sourdough could have been toasted a bit more, and the bacon was slightly undercooked for my preference. The avocado toast, while creative, had quite a few competing flavors on top that overpowered the simplicity I was expecting. Our cappuccinos were average, but still enjoyable. Overall, Heyday has a lot going for it with its beautiful atmosphere and laid-back charm. With a bit more attentiveness in service and small refinements in the food, it could easily become a favorite. I'd absolutely return, especially for the ambiance and a relaxed place to meet and chat.

They have a nice patio to bring your dog and a fire pit to light during the evening. They also have cute little shops surrounding it to pop in and find some great goodies. The coffee was also delicious, a little on the pricey side ($20 after tip) but worth it! I ordered the vanilla bean iced latte and my mother in law got the iced mocha! Definitely check this place out if you're ever in Johns island
