So I splurged and bought an oceanfront massage for my bestie and I for her birthday... wowee did this spa deliver! We were collected from the lobby and led to the front of the hotel where there was a canvas cabana set up. Loud waves crashing... exactly what you're imagining right now! Our two techs sat with us as we chose our massage goals, scents, etc, and then we were led into the bungalow. After we got into our birthday suits, the techs returned and took down the canvas walls so that it felt like we were almost in the water. At one point a fine rain started and it was like being blessed from the sky as we were being rubbed into oblivion. The ONLY thing I didn't love is that when it was time to do that awkward flip that you can barely manage on a massage table because you're halfway unconscious and the therapist is holding the sheet out of the way so that you can make that awkward move, it did seem like the people in the rooms along the side of the hotel could've seen directly into the bungalow from that angle. I mean, if they're going to be nosy like that, then they see what they see, but for a split second it did impact the state of relaxation that I was in. But that's literally the only thing. After, we spent close to two hours floating in the ocean at the resort-adjacent beach, had no trouble getting towels from the attendant, then soaked in the pool, the hot tub, and then got ready for dinner at Red Salt. There were no pool-level bathrooms to change in, but we managed just fine in the ladies room in the lobby. My wife booked us a much needed 60 minute lomi lomi couples massage after hiking the Alakai Swamp Trail. Joy was my massage therapist. She was professional and addressed all my problem areas. The pikake essential oil infusion, warm towels, air purifier, and massage table warmer all enhanced the massage experience. The coconut water at the end was also appreciated. I went for a massage on the last day of my stay at the hotel. Part of the price was included in the package we bought through Costco. When booking the tip is automatically included. The spa is above the lobby on the second floor at the end of the hall past the gym. It was month ago so I remember the masseuse's name. I believe I had the signature massage and I booked an hour. It was very good. I've had pain in my left shoulder for a while and she was able to resolve that. I don't get massages so I can't comment on whether the prices was high or low, but the massage was very good, relaxing and invigorating. read more

Christine at the front desk is a sweetheart and a kind welcome to the spa. I got the hot stone massage (I cannot remember the providers name) which was excellent and a facial with Natalie the first day of our visit. I floated out of there. I ended up catching a cold while I was on the island and had gotten well enough by the last day to squeeze in another facial and massage with Natalie. I cannot express how much I enjoyed my services with her at The Spa. She has a kind heart and healing energy. I left with my skin glowing and my body feeling so much better after her focus on sore muscles and lymphatic drainage. Again, Natalie was amazing. While the facilities themselves are nice enough, they are not extravagant. I had a bit of sticker shock at the final totals but the services and products were worth it. The product line they use (Honua Skincare) is exquisite-- enough so that I purchased them and intend on continued use at home, which I've never done before. i was really looking forwards to a massage after a long week in hawaii on a biking and hiking trip. Me and two other members in my family booked deep tissue massages on the beach in cabanas at this spa. We arrived at the hotel and were pointed in the direction of where to go. Me and another were doing a couples massage so we walked out past the pool towards a cabana, not necessarily on the beach literally right next to hotel rooms on the grass. We waited there for maybe ten minutes before a masseuse came to greet us. if i could go back i would not do the massage on the beach. 1.) it was loud. we could hear lawnmowers and people talking 2.) we were right by rooms so everyone could see us and because it was windy the blankets kept flying everywhere and i'm sure i flashed a few folks. 3.) it just wasn't peaceful being outside right by all these people. the massage was okay, it actually wasn't 50 minutes more like 45 (i checked the clock) but hey who's counting on a 220$ massage? I spoke to a guest service person over the phone about doing them on the beach and I was not informed it was a $35 up charge for every individual massage on the beach which in fact ended up basically being a rip off. The massage itself was not great but not bad. I wouldn't come back here again. Overpriced and not worth it. read more

My husband and I recently treated ourselves to amazing Lomi Lomi massages here recently for our wedding anniversary. He did the 80 minutes and I did the 50 minutes. We enjoyed it immensely! Easy check in. Jennifer took me to my treatment room. The rooms are small but very quiet. The beds are very comfortable with spa music. I was very impressed with her as she has good strong strokes, almost felt like deep tissue massage. I loved the little facial massage with lotion application at the end. I wish they did facials but not at this time because of the Covid pandemic. You can let her know which areas that need attention and she will do so. She was amazing! There are no lockers or amenities at this spa. Front desk attendant acted like I was bothering her when I inquired about taking a shower after coconut oil scalp message add/on to message. She was rude and should not be in a customer service capacity. Very unpleasant attitude. Go elsewhere if you want a nice relaxing experience! read more

Amazing "express" facial! First off, the staff at the salon are all very friendly and check-in was a breeze. As for my facial, it was supposed to be a quick 30-minute job and I didn't really know what to expect. I loved it! Jessica (I believe) was amazing- she helped explain my skin type to me and recommended a suitable skin routine. The facial experience was great, and she provided massages while masks were sitting. She also performed some extractions. Also, FYI: I usually tip in cash but 18% was added to the card upon check-out. Made it easy for me but just a heads up! read more

Got a massage with my gf. We had a 3:30pm appointment and arrived 5 minutes before hand to fill out paperwork. We went into the room around 3:35pm and got under the sheets and waited a couple of minutes before both masseuses came in. After a couple minutes of adjustments with the face rest and asking which part of my body I needed the most work on, the massage started at ~3:40pm Sadly, the massage was average, at best. The "neck, shoulder, and back" package we ordered barely qualified as a massage specific to those regions. It was more of a gentle pressure, which was not nearly enough to remove any tension in my shoulders/neck/back. And to top it off, the massage ended close to 10 minutes early. There is an automatic 20% gratuity, which is absolutely too much for the quality of the massage we received and the price charged. read more

Just had a fabulous Lomi Lomi massage with Dana at the Ko'a Kea. I opted for a 50-minute massage at the end of our idyllic Kauai vacation and The Spa lived up to every expectation! Upon checking in at the front desk, I was brought to the spa to complete my waiver and choose my scented oil. I chose Kukui Coconut to match the Coconut scalp massage I added to my treatment. Brenda at The Spa was a very sweet receptionist, walking me through the different treatments in case I wanted to change my mind. I stuck with Lomi Lomi and was extremely happy that I did! Dana was thorough and provided exactly the pressure I needed (medium/deep). She focused on my areas of tension, including areas I didn't know I was holding tension! She checked in on me a couple of times but otherwise let me drift into a semi-slumber. I was sad to have it end! I would absolutely recommend The Spa and of course, Dana. She was a gem and the indulgence was worth every penny! read more

After not being able to book a couples cabana massage at the Sheraton, I found this place on yelp and was quickly able to make an appointment for the next day. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and sent text directions to their location. We were gifted most of the expense for this massage, and though it was pricey, found it way worth it! The masseuses used lovely scented oils and lotions and used a variety of massage techniques. Being right on the beach felt right on all the senses (especially after just having kayaked the Wailua River!). I would highly recommend the spa at Ko'a Kea for massage services! read more

While there's nothing extravagant about this spa it is a perfect way to spend an afternoon while at Koa Kea. It's small and only treatment rooms, but this resort is boutique/small so it is to be expected. We've had treatments here twice now during two separate stays at Koa Kea and enjoyed both visits. The first time we had a couples lomi lomi massage and I really enjoyed it, so relaxing. The second time my husband and I each got the express facial and we loved it too, maybe more than the massage. I have super sensitive skin and acne so I'm always nervous about facials, but this was perfect. The facial was so relaxing and refreshing. My skin looked and felt amazing after, all of the redness subsided and it calmed my skin. I already can't wait to return on our next stay at Koa Kea! read more

I'm usually not one for a massage because my past experiences have always been less than satisfactory. I'm glad the wife talked me into this one. Dana was amazing. The strength and control from her hands blows my mind. I'll definitely request her again when i return. Thank you Dana! The wife and i also got facials from Jessica. I don't like people touching my face but she definitely worked some magic. She made my face feel brand new. She also gave me great tips on how to keep my money maker pretty. Thank you Jessica! I was also able to have great conversation with Brandy or (i) while i was waiting for my wife to finish her treatment. She's so friendly. Sadly, I was very disappointed with my experience at the spa during our stay at the resort. As a threshold matter, the services are advertised at a lower price on the resort menu, but significantly more expensive at time of booking. My husband and I are visiting on our honeymoon and looked forward to a nice trip to the spa. We were disappointed to learn the spa does not have any amenities like sauna, steam room, showers, etc., so our spa day was less of and experience and more of a single expensive service. This was surprising given the price of the massages. Additionally, we booked the cabana massage as a special experience (an extra charge) which was regularly interrupted by the sounds of other guests and resort staff pushing loud carts right outside the cabana. It took nearly the entire 60 minute massage to relax and it was over before we knew it. The massage itself was fine, but overall we were incredibly let down by our $600 hour. read more

Best massage of my life = easiest 5 star review ever. My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience at The Spa, located in the Koa Kea Hotel. The spa itself is pretty small and simple, so don't expect saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, etc. After a couple of deep tissue massages with Ruth and Paulie, my boyfriend and I were amazed by how good they were. After our massages, we both looked at each other and said, "That was the best massage I've ever had". Both of us have definitely had our share of massages so that is saying a lot. They have an option to pay an extra $10-15 for aromatherapy, but don't fall for it. It gets one star for the originality of its name, one star for its location inside of my resort so I don't need to go anywhere, and one more star for spending however it wants to. It loses one star for being fairly expensive for what it was, and it loses another star for leaving me with a sore thumb joint almost two weeks later. I don't know what the name of the thumb joint is. In fact, I was never even really bodily aware of this joint's existence until my massage therapist hurt it doing some unnecessary hand massage thing. Now it's sore. Oh well. I'm a man and I can deal with it until it goes away. read more

Wife and I love the Spa at Koa Kea! We had a couples massage near the beach and then each had another massage separately later in the week. Excellent staff. My therapist for both was Patti and she was outstanding. My wife had (James) I believe and he was excellent too with a background in sports therapy. I had Lomi Lomi massage both times and it was truly a treat. They don't have anything beyond massage at the Spa so it is not a "spa" in the traditional sense, e.g. no sauna, whirlpool, steam, etc. Excellent experience. read more

We had three massages here on our recent vacation. The spa is small and no frills but the are super nice and really worked to accommodate our requests - a couples massage plus one for our daughter - I think they just have two rooms and usually only two therapists on site so they arranged to have a third person come in just for us. Two of the three said best (or close to it) massage they have had. The reason for only four stars is my massage was fine. It wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. After a life of making business travel tolerable by including a massage whenever possible - I usually pass on hotel spas unless they are highly rated and well known - and definitely prefer a therapist that I can work with on my body issues verses a new one. However, since I was having some neck/upper back issues, I scheduled multiple treatments during my lovely Ko'a Kea stay. Patty Huff is a treasure in a hidden gem of a spa! Patty carefully worked my neck/back and rest of my body taking me from pain to relaxation during one 80 minute signature massage. She's fantastic and was instantly in-tune to my needs. When we arrived for our honeymoon the first thing we did was schedule massages at the Spa to kick off two weeks of relaxing. We were automatically scheduled for a couple's massage (which was fine, we just didn't ask for that specifically). The massage experience itself was standard, not the best massage I've ever had but it did the trick in getting us relaxed. The weird thing about the spa is that it's basically just a few rooms that were cut out of the hotel and turned into a spa. You check in at the front desk then they come and get you in the lobby. They do have a sea-side cabana massage option but it's right on a public path on the beach so we chose to forego that option. Hoping with the purchase of the resort by Meritage they will expand their spa. read more

My husband and I wanted to get a couples massage at our hotel, the Koa Kia. We decided to splurge and choose the deep tissue and I also choose the hot oil hair addition. The staff is very friendly and the room was nice. My massage was definitely not a deep tissue and I found myself wondering if he was new or in training. I asked him to press harder twice but to be honest I don't think he was confident in what he was doing. It was a mediocre massage. Then he did my hair treatment during my 80 minute massage, taking away from my massage and not actually adding on to it. That didn't seem fair. With tip our total came to $490 and I left there feeling sick about spending so much money on something that did not feel worth it. My husband and I talked to the manager at the hotel the next day. We explained that though everyone was nice and we didn't want to get anyone in trouble that we don't feel like we got the experience we paid for. She explained that they use a contracted company and that we might need to talk with them. I didn't think it was fair to make us spend our time doing that. She agreed and compensated me for my massage. The manager listened to us and apologized about our experience. I think it was handled well. Hopefully they choose their contractors better next time. If they are going to have a couple pay almost $500 for massages they should know we are definitely going to get a professional experience to match that price. I would still recommend going to this spa, especially if you are already staying at the Koa Kia. I'm confident they will be more careful about the quality of service from now on. read more

I had a sun comfort facial treatment at this spa last week. I arrived 10 min early to fill out paperwork and there was a box you could check for add on coconut scalp massage for $25. However, my facial description said it included this. I pointed it out to the staff, and Natalie who was to do my facial argued with me that it wasn't included. I pushed back that it was and that's what the description of the service said. So she finally decided to read it and realized I was right. I was really upset that she was trying to gip me from getting a treatment that was included in the price of my facial. This place is super overpriced, so at the very least you expect to get the treatment you are paying for not the staff arguing with you. To make matters worse you are required to pay 20% gratuity even if you are not happy with the service. So, really there is no incentive for the staff to do a good job. They don't have a steam room, jacuzzi or any other amenities like other spas do either. They don't even offer you tea; all they have is water! Save your money and don't go here. There are plenty of other more reasonably priced spas in the area with better service. After having such a bad experience, I decided to book a massage at another spa in Kauai instead of at the Koa Kea. Although the Koa Kea resort itself is nice, and I would stay there again I would not go back to their spa. read more
