"THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG" My mom was going through a very stressful period in her life so I thought it would be nice to surprise her with a gift card for a massage, just because. I searched Google for a massage place. I settled on The Spa Haus in Amityville, based on Google's rating and reviews. I went to the gift cards section of their website which directed me to a third party site which handles the electronic transactions for The Spa Haus. I filled out the forms and chose a $200 electronic gc. I got a confirmation on the site and received an email receipt. I eagerly awaited a call from my mom thanking me for the surprise gift. A day went by, and nothing. I decided to contact her and ask her if she received an email from me. Nope. She asked what she was supposed to look for and I told her. No more surprise. She found an email from The Spa Haus. There was no mention of a gift card, me or the dollar amount. It was a generic email saying that she can call for an appointment. It looked like spam. I called The Spa Haus and a woman answered. I wish I had asked for her name, but the owner is well aware of who she is. I explained the error to her and expressed my disappointment. She immediately got defensive saying, "That couldn't have happened"..."I see it fine on my end"..."Did your mom scroll the entire email?"..."Did you submit it correctly?". She was curt and she repeatedly interrupted me. At no point did she apologize, take responsibility or act the least bit sympathetic. I became increasingly less patient with this woman. The tense conversation escalated. After I called her out on her terrible customer service, she said in an obvious condescending tone, "I'M VERY SORRY." I eventually hung up the phone. I called right back and asked for an immediate refund and she said she would talk to the owner and get back to me. No call back. The next morning I called The Spa Haus multiple times with no answer. I left a message. I tried calling The Spa Haus later in the day and this time someone answered. It was the owner. When I introduced myself, she said that she was just about to call me. I began to explain the situation and she immediately treated me with the same lack of respect as her employee did a day prior. She was defensive. She cut me off. She told me there are no refunds, before I could even finish. I expressed how her employee was unapologetic and the owner snapped at me saying that she reviewed the cameras and the employee said "I'm very sorry." I told her that was said condescendingly, only after I called her out on being unapologetic. It was another escalating conversation with poor customer service. I then told her, which is true, that I'm not that upset about the gift card, because it's the internet and errors happen. I told her that I was really upset because the employee treated me like garbage. I guess it finally clicked because the owner did a 180 and told me that she would refund my money, and she did. She half-apologized and said that the employee "probably had a bad day." Nothing she said sounded sincere. I was just glad to get my refund and be done with this nightmare. The employee on the original phone call should have said something like, "I'm very sorry that happened to you. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to make it right. Can you please share with me exactly what happened so we can correct this and make sure this doesn't happen again. Thanks for choosing us." Instead I was made to feel like an idiot and a bother. The owner should have known better. Perhaps business is so good that she doesn't care if she loses a customer every now and then. The funny thing is, I would have kept the gift card had someone at this business actually been kind to me. This was supposed to be a nice surprise for my mom, something to relieve her stress. Instead, another business will get my $200 and a possible long-term customer, and I have wasted hours of my life dealing with yet another bad business with no clue what customer service actually means.

I visited for the first time today, and I can see why my friend trusts Susan with her skincare needs.

I went here for the first time after some work colleagues recommended Maria for blonde highlights…read more I brought pictures and stressed the fact I DID NOT want my hair yellow/golden blonde ( I personally do not wear it well and my colleagues have a gorgeous icy/silver that I thought she would be capable of doing on me as well ). I asked for ashy/silver blonde and left with 5 different color blondes in my hair, none of which matched what I asked for as a few pieces were even orange. PRIOR to even making my appointment, I told Maria my hair takes about 3 1/2 hours because I wanted to make sure the time allotted was adequate. My hair was done in two hours ( including cut and blowdry) and she even stated " next time we can go more silver/ashy". Pretty sure she knew the color was off immediately, but I personally can never tell with the salon lighting. That comment alone made me feel uneasy and I had a feeling it was going to be wrong. After looking in several different lightings and realizing how horrible my hair looked, I returned a few days later ( when my work schedule allowed) and Larry did a glaze for me. Unfortunately, but not to his surprise, the glaze did not help because the foil did not lift my hair where it needed to be to create the ashy blonde desired. I have been getting my hair highlighted since I am 13 years old and have had icy/silver before ( my base is also dirty blonde and warm so if done correctly, should be easily achieved by a professional). I called back to come in to get my hair re foiled as it was nowhere near what I asked for, but I think Larry already knew that. I was extremely embarrassed and unhappy with my hair and didn't even want to wear it down for the next several days . When I called back I was told I would need to pay for some of the service as "communication" was off the first time and it was going to be a lot of work. I was very direct and communicated several times that I DID NOT want my hair yellow/gold and provided photos prior to my first service. I am not sure how much clearer I could have possibly been. Communication on my end was NOT off and I felt like Larry was putting the blame on me for Maria's poor performance that day. To ask me to repay for what I already paid for is poor customer service in my opinion. It should have been done right the first time and none of us would have been in this situation, especially me. He saw my hair and knew it was nowhere near what I asked for so to place the blame on me was extremely uncalled for and his frustration was entirely misplaced. It was not my lack of communication that caused this outcome and I was very taken back and offended that it was portrayed in this way. After being totally disgusted by the outcome and then being told I had to pay for repairs, I cancelled that appointment. Not even ONE time did Maria reach out and apologize or try and make it right. It was all put on me to try and figure it out if I WANTED it fixed. You have to be kidding me! This is not how my situation should have been handled and quite honestly the salon should be ashamed of themselves for handling it in this manner. That's bad business. Her statement alone showed she knew the color was off after she blew my hair out, so accountability for her mistake would have been much appreciated. I felt my situation wasn't handled correctly at all as I was very open and honest about what I wanted. If Maria needed clarification, which I find hard to believe, then she should have asked. Although I wasn't charged for my glaze, I did leave a tip on the counter for Larry and the shampoo girl ( sorry I forgot her name) because I felt that was the right thing to do. However, the right thing for them to do for ME would have been to refoil my hair, FREE OF ANY CHARGES, if that's what was needed to achieve the DESIRED OUTCOME. My hair has never taken two hours to complete so I should have known something was wrong then. I believe the photos speak for themself so do with it what you will. The salon is adorable and the cut and blow out were nice, but the color is embarrassing and their approach to make it right was subpar to say the least. How does a stylist not even reach out to an unhappy client?! That alone just blows my mind.
