This became obvious to me by the fact that they would not accept to board my dog until I first came in for a consultation- and it says alot about how they run their business. I boarded my pup here while I was out of town, and I couldn't be happier with The Spaw! While I was away, they sent me pictures of my pooch having fun with his new buddies. You can tell right away how much they truly love dogs. When I picked my pup up, they had given him a complementary bath - he smelled amazing and was well combed. She is my baby and I'm sure the people at The Spaw wouldn't want their child/baby to come home with eyes so bad she can't even open them! My puppy got his nails clipped and some play time here while I ran a local errand while en-route to LA.. It was way too hot in the car to leave my baby for a few hours. (I had never traveled with my dog like that before, it poses a seriously logistical challenge - especially in this extra hot summer). I was frantically Yelping for somewhere to take him while I was driving up, and I found this place. It turns out that Half-Day Daycare was a perfect option for me! Prices are very reasonable - at least compared to what I'm used to in San Diego. I had all his information and shot records, and they checked it all out but weren't super uptight about it like some places are. (You know, those places that make you come for a visit, do paperwork, an interview, and get approved a month before you want to bring your dog in.. please! Ain't nobody got time for that!) His nails came out really rough, the only reason they lost a star. When talking to friends about it later, they said regardless of where you go you always have to specifically request for them to be smoothed out.. I don't understand why one would have to request for their dog's nails not to be cut jaggedly when paying for a nail trimming but ok lol I digress. They have monitors in the lobby so you can see video from inside the doggy play room; it's nice to be able to watch them while you're waiting to pick your baby up. There were lots of people picking up, seems like a popular place and everyone seemed happy - dogs, owners, and employees. Everyone seemed to be on a first-name basis. I brought my Pudding here cuz I was going to Las Vegas for two days with my parents. At first I had an appointment with the pet hotel at pet smart. But pudding was so nervous and refused to stay there. We had no choice so I decided to give a try here at the spaw. I was so worried because this is the first time pudding boarded, and also because he might bite other people when he is super nervous I never brought him to any grooming salon. But when we got to this place their employees are so nice to him, they held him in the arm and tried to make him relax. When we picked him up he's tired, but that's normal cuz he was playing around. Also I realized that they gave pudding a hair cut he looks so cute. My husband and I absolutely love this place whether we need to board our dog or just drop her off to play for the day! When we moved here I did a lot of research for pet sitting and we even tried a different place out before this. Our dog however did not enjoy that place ( was always nervous to go in, and I didn't feel so great leaving her either) so we did more research and I am SO glad we came across The Spaw!! The staff are super friendly and nice, and will always take such great care of our Roxy girl. As soon as we pull in, our dog gets so happy! She loves greeting the staff and is always ready to be taken back to play! I love that there are big open rooms for the dogs to play, and it's great to see no animals locked up in cages. They even have cameras so you can watch your pup play throughout the day! We haven't gotten her groomed yet, just nails clipped but we are always happy with the result! I recently found Yelp.com and was looking around for some of my fav's in my city, Tustin. I felt compelled to write a review on MY experience with dog groomers in town, specifically The Spaw. After going to a few other groomers in town, who's names I will withhold, I was referred to The Spaw. My dog (Maltese/Westie mix) is a little 'skittish' in which she won't let just anyone handle her. The staff at The Spaw are dog people. They genuinely love dogs and love what they are doing! They know how to handle dogs, even with their special personalities. They are legitimately are concerned with your dogs health and welfare. I have a special notation in her file about the specific cut I'd like my dog to have and it's honored each and every time! The facility is like no other that I have ever seen. I have never seen a cage there! There are open areas for the dogs to roam, socialize, and play. A simulated dog park with 'grass' and cheery murals painted on the walls. They have a room designed like a bed room for the smaller dogs with a viewing window. Knowing that my dog is happy and playing, being given treats (with your pre-approval) is such a load off my mind. I never worry when my dog is at The Spaw!! There are cameras and a monitor in the waiting area so that you can view your dog interacting with the other dogs. Other reviews are stating that the location is hard to find. In my opinion, if you follow the directions, and pay attention to the signage, you won't have a problem finding it. Getting an appointment for grooming has never been a problem. It seems like whenever I ask for a specific time and day, it's always available! With my busy schedule if I'm unable to pick up my dog when she's ready, The Spaw offers 'doggie day care'. I've boarded my dog at The Spaw too! Knowing that she is around people and other dogs she knows, eating right, and not caged is extremely important to me! I simply can not speak highly enough about Carrie and ALL of her staff at The Spaw. There is no need for you to take your dog to the places I've already been and learned a lesson from. Can't believe it's taken me 3 years to write this review... I've been taking my little guy, Monty, here since his first cut. Monty can't wait to go every month! They usually let him bounce around with all the other little pups before his cut. By the time they pull out the shears, he's ready to go. They keep a record of the way we want him cut everytime. Not once did he ever get a bad cut. He's so happy when we leave. The staff here is always friendly and patient. Carrie, the owner always takes the time to say hi and ask how everything is going. In the past, We've even been invited to a once a month dog meet-up after work. Super fun. Now that we have re-located to San Diego, we still drive 2 hours to take him to his favorite place. Took my dog to "the Spaw" in Tustin for grooming. Have been doing it for a couple of years. Last time I took her I gave specific instructions as to how I wanted her trimmed (length etc) the totally shaved her down to where you could see her skin and cut all her facial hair off (which I had never had requested before) I took some deep breaths and told myself I will take her again and next time be very very specific. Today I did just that. Spent 10 min explaining what had happened last time and asked that they leave her longer and NOT cut her facial hair! I just picked her up CANNOT believe what they did! Totally disregarded ALL my instructions!! I want to cry right now. The girl that checked her out and had checked her in was speechless! Didn't offer my money back or anything! Just said I don't know what happened! Really well I do!! Your staff doesn't know how to follow directions nor care about owner respect! I am telling you. Beware of "The Spaw" in Tustin. i had written a previous review about my dog chester coming home with cuts on his ears. the owner has now responded to my review with lies, and i want to make sure that her defense of the situation does not make you want to still bring your dog here. first of all, i NEVER said Chester was "bleeding everywhere." what a ridiculous exaggeration. when i called i said i had noticed an area on his ear with a bloody cut, and just wanted to know why we were not informed of this because this is clearly something the groomer would have noticed. Carrie, the owner, said in her response to my review that someone named Gwen took a look at chester. this is false. i never even spoke to anyone named Gwen. the only person i spoke to was Emily. i even told Emily that i understood that these things happen as an accident at groomers, but that i was upset because no one told me. that was the whole point of our conversation. i did not even bring up wanting a refund or anything, emily is the one who said "you can take chester now to your vet and call me after and we will take care of the bill." i said "you would pay for that?" and she said "yes, the owner has done it before." so i headed over to my vet. the vet took a look at both the vet and his assistant said that it is possible that this came from a cut at the groomers, but they couldnt promise me since they obviously werent there when it happened, which makes sense. i called and told the owner that this is what the vet said and that she was more than welcome to call the vet herself and ask. there was no "attempt to blame" you Carrie. you are the most unprofessional woman i have ever come in contact with. and from reading other reviews, i can see you've pulled the same crazy stunt on others as well. my dog came to you in perfect condition and left with a couple bloody cuts. are you so unhinged that you cant even look at the possibility that your groomer did this on accident? i even asked if you spoke to emily to ask her about telling me that you would pay for the vet bill, and you said you would speak to her about it and i never heard from you again. you said you would call after speaking to my vet, in which i never heard from you after that as well. you do not seem to have the mental capacity to be a business owner and i hope that others reading this will look elsewhere for your pets who deserve nothing but the best, instead of somewhere that pretends to have you and your pets best interest in mind. actions speak louder than words, Carrie. read more

Long story short: Amazing staff. Bring your dogs here! Keep reading for my full experience. I have an anxious dog that absolutely hates to be handled. As such, trimming her nails have been nearly impossible at home, and I couldn't postpone the task any longer. I've taken her to several different Petcos and none of their staff groomers were able to trim her nails because of how much she struggles to run away. Most recently I hired a traveling vet tech to come to my home to help trim my dog's nails, and she was screaming and fighting and while they were able to get the job done without hurting her, my dog had peed and pooped herself out of stress. I felt so bad putting her through that, while also paying $$$ for a home visit, that I decided would just spend the time working to desensitize her to paw handling, etc. in the hopes that someday I would be able to do nail trims myself. After a couple months of trying, I wasn't making much progress, so I decided to give one last go at a local groomer. I read the reviews here and gave them a call about nail trims for anxious dogs and they were helpful in telling me the price of just a nail trim and that I could swing by anytime without an appointment. I told them about my anxious dog and they said there isn't any extra charge for that (the traveling vet tech charged me an extra $20!), so I came in right away. The shop itself is small but very cute and welcoming, and there's a mounted TV where you can see the dogs playing in the back rooms. Anyways, when I walked in, they were pretty busy but it wasn't long before someone freed up and asked how they could help me. I mentioned again how my dog just needs a nail trim but how she's really difficult, and they said "no problem" and that they'd give it their best shot. They took her in back and after 5-10 minutes of me nervously pacing around their shop, fingers crossed that my dog wouldn't be too much of a mess, they brought her back out and it was mostly a success! They told me how my dog definitely was a fighter and that it took 4 of their staff members to trim about half of her nails. What they offered next was definitely above and beyond. They told me they weren't going to charge me for that day, and instead asked me to come back once a week every week to get my dog more accustomed to the space and the staff and the whole process, and that they still won't charge me! I was a little floored, and so happy it wasn't a total disaster. So I came back the next week, and they took her in back again. When she came out, they said it only took 3 people this time! And when I offered to pay for their services again, they politely declined and just said to come back next week. So I did, and again they were fabulous. One of the staff even took a video on their phone of my dog being pretty calm in someone's arms while another worked on her nails, and showed it to me in the lobby, which I loved. Again, when I offered to pay they told me it wasn't necessary. Now let me mention that I have a 28 lb short haired collie mix that 1) is strong and difficult to handle when she really doesn't want to be touched, and 2) she's got short hair! She pretty much would never need grooming done, so she's not the type of dog that is the Spaw's primary clientele. So I'm super appreciative that they would put in so much effort for my one dog who really just needs basic nail trims every once in a while. They are top notch and really care that you and your dog have a positive experience. As a grooming facility, I'm sure most dogs they encounter are not so touch-sensitive, so it's a relief to me that they know how to calmly and effectively handle one who is. It's been several visits now, and to this day they have not charged me a dime for the nail trims, but I've happily bought some of the dog treats they stock in the shop. They're so great, I would come back often even if they did charge me! Now that I know they do boarding and day care too, I will certainly use them in the future if needed. Our neighbors recommended The Spaw for grooming. After checking out reviews on Yelp, I decided to call and make an appointment. The Spaw is "free roam" so when you take your dog in at your appointment time, it's not really an appointment; they put them in a room with other dogs to wait for a tub. I don't consider myself an overprotective dog owner but knowing my dog, I would not have made an appointment had the staff communicated this over the phone or bothered to informed me of this when we arrived. Our dog does well with other dogs at the park/dog beach, but the small space seemed to make her very anxious. I didn't find out she'd be boarded with other dogs or just how long the wait would be until I was on my way out and asked when I should come back. One of the girls pointed to a TV monitor where I saw my dog cowering from other dogs who chased and barked at her. It was a weekday morning, but the room was full and they told me the wait time would be 1.5- 2 hours in the room. Since our dog looked really anxious, even after I waited a few minutes for her to settle in, I canceled the the appointment. With so many dogs in one room, it also bothered that they didn't asked about vaccinations at check-in, which is standard for grooming and boarding (everywhere I've ever taken our dog has asked for kennel cough vaccinations). (As a side note and FYI for those who have tiny ones: I also watched a groomer dry a small dog with a high power dryer. The dog was being pushed and yanked around by the force of the dryer. Not what I would expect from a place with such great reviews.) read more

The owner of The Spaw is assisting us with our dog's nutrition. We were lucky enough to be recommended to her through our dog walker. We have a senior rescue who has been diagnosed with "allergies" since we got her. For over two years, we have had her on strong antibiotics, and have spent hundreds of dollars each months with vets, who give us the same response. We finally decided it was enough and have taken a more natural holistic approach to our dog's diet with the help of Carrie. The first call with her (prior to us even meeting) lasted for over an hour. I have never gotten that type of service even from our vets, who typically just rush in, prescribe us a drug, and have us go on our way. Over the last three months, the amount of knowledge Carrie has shared with us has been truly incredible and has completely changed our outlook on our dog's health. We have been able to get her off of antibiotics, and while we are still going through the process (it can take quite some time), we are hopeful we are on the way to a full recovery for our dog free of antibiotics and crappy food. read more

We Thank you for such a Incredibly Wonderful experience! Topper came home so happy ;) we rescued him in December. He is such a lovable dog and is not without his own little personality challenges like chewing and lack of potty training. He did visit another grooming "business" and came home with a less then stellar report. To our surprise he came home completely shaved after we asked for minimal clipping and they insisted he was really uncontrollable. This came as a surprise because even when we brought him home I've had been bathing him weekly with no problems. I took my little princess, Frankie for a bath and cleanup a few weeks back and had a great experience. They were super friendly and did a great job! I recalled they provided boarding and had to leave her for a few days this past weekend. I was nervous to leave her and mentioned to the gal who checked us in. She offered to send pics and to call anytime. As promised they sent me a pic of my cute girl and two videos. I called twice while we were away and they were more than happy to check on her and report back all was good. So happy to have found a place to leave my precious girl when I can't take her with me. My only recommendation is they offered Periscope (an app to watch there play area), however the updates were a couple days behind on the app. No big deal since your team was good enough to email me pics, but just a suggestion.
