I'm not often in Powhatan, so I was thrilled to try 1933 Public House for the first time last Thursday night after work with a couple of coworker friends. We booked a reservation and that seemed like a good idea, as it was quite full inside. We were seated in a corner booth in their dining room, directly across from the expansive wrap-around bar area. I noticed a cute little fireplace in the dining room too. All around, the vibe was perfect for a chill dinner. I ordered the Abita root beer ($5) to drink, which is always a good choice. One of my friends ordered a Sangria, which looked lovely, and she said it was good. I'd consider ordering that in the future. For food, I started with a small ceasar salad ($5). I loved the dressing on it so much, I wish I could've bottled it up! I would return JUST for that dressing. One of my friends ordered it for her meal and added salmon, and she also liked it. Another friend ordered the spinach salad and *loved* it. I ordered the blackened mahi with pimento grits and brussel sprouts for my entree ($30), the brussels subbed for the broccoli that originally came with the dish. Everything on the dish was delightful, and my leftovers warmed up well the next day too. We each ordered a different chocolate dessert, including the chocolate peanut butter pie, the chocolate pot de creme, and (myself) the brownie sundae. We all enjoyed them quite a bit. Prices were super reasonable, especially considering how much food we ordered. Everything was clearly high quality also. Can't wait to try more of their menu in the future!

Updated Review (9-28-2024): Girls' night out was a hit! Public House remains in my top 3 spots for food and drinks. We went for happy hour on Saturday (starts at 8pm), after leaving 3 Crosses, which closes at 8pm. The outdoor covered patio was perfect--great fresh air and not too crowded. Karen, our waitress again, was incredibly attentive and made sure we were all enjoying ourselves. We traveled from Midlothian, and one of our friends, visiting for the first time, was very impressed and said she'd definitely come back. Well done, Public House!

Just had a birthday dinner for 18 that was so totally awesome. We pre ordered the appetizers so they were ready when we arrived and with our drink order. Everything was so delicious and fresh. Cindi our waitresses did an amazing job taking care of us. This is our all time favorite restaurant. Thanks Ryan (the manager) for having such a fantastic staff. Can't wait to come back.

Came here with coworkers and we sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. I had a white wine spritzer which was crisp and refreshing. Just what I wanted. We were there on a Tuesday which is community night so a portion of proceeds are donated to a local nonprofit and it's a limited menu. We got the polenta fries and tater tots to start. I'm still thinking about this polenta fries. So good. For my entree I got a spring salad with shrimp. Very good. My husband ordered the pepperoni pizza and had plenty leftover to bring home for lunch the next day. The service was so friendly and they let us stay and hang even after they had closed. We didn't mean to stay long but didn't realize what time it was. The staff was so polite and we never felt rushed. I look forward to going back and trying more items on the menu. This place is a real gem.

This gem has all the things you want in a restaurant. Great drinks. Great food. Great service. Just an A+ experience! Outstanding drinks- old fashioned (amazing) and the best drink I have ever had (French75). We started with the fried oyster special- crispy succulent oysters with 2 sauces served in a bed of lettuce. PERFECTION. Special fish was wahoo on couscous with Brussels and creamed corn - so good. And I had a wild mushroom flatbread. Very good. Besides the food and drinks, the place has a great atmosphere and is exceptionally clean. It's phenomenal!

It's adjacent to a gas station convenience store. It has its own entrance, but shared parking lot and restrooms. We are always greeted with smiles and by name. It's just that kind of loving, family vibe. Chips and salsa are always good. Servings are generous and we often share plates adults with kids. I share nachos à la casa with a grandchild and between us we eat about half of it. My son and grandson share fajita nachos and I think those two polish it off. It's all very flavorful. Somebody at the table usually gets arroz con pollo. And my hubby loves carne asada, but he alternates between 3 different dishes. It's clean. Friendly. There is a bar, but I've never seen anyone over-imbibe there. We've gone months where we would go weekly. The guacamole is good. Good churros. I definitely recommend it. Great vibe. It's open for lunch and dinner. Closed on Sunday

Nonetheless I ordered some boneless sweet chili wings with blue cheese ( which were good) and tried a zero proof cocktail, berry mule. 1/10 for the drink. It resembled the taste of cough syrup. During our meal, the manager was kind enough to give free tix to puttery (nothing was mentioned about the food or drink). Afterwards we headed down to the first floor to play. The first course is indoors and offers a variety of easier holes and some with more difficulty. The second course is outdoors and has tons of topiarys around that make for a great photo backdrop. There doesn't appear to be any real concrete theme which makes going to each hole exciting as you don't know what to expect. Everyone I interacted with was really nice and walked my friend and I through how to play. We ended up also eating upstairs and the food offerings were really yummy. We shared the soft pretzels as a starter which came with a delicious mustard sauce. I ended up getting their chicken sandwich as my main, I found the sandwich itself to be fried a bit too hard so I can't reccomend that but their fries appeared to be hand cut and those were absolutely delicious. Overall this place is a great spot for families, friends or I could even see this being a fun date spot. Its really a one stop shop with their restaurant and activities being in the same place. If I could I would have given it 4 1/2 stars, because it was good but not great but definitely well enough not to drop it to a 4. Let's start with the location: very nice and everything seems real clean and cared for. Even the men's room was decent at 6:00 pm at night. Now our server: Sidney was very attentive to us. She took very good care of us during our stay. Now the meal: Again it was good. The wifey had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo. She tells me the sauce had a nice flavor but the chicken really had no flavor. Certainly not a Blackened flavor you would expect. The chicken itself was good and tender. As for me I had Shrimp and Grits. It also was good. It had onions and peppers in it and again the flavor of the onions and peppers just want there. Who knows. We also had the Brick Oven Brie. There was a really nice amount of Brie. So much that the toasted bread ran out way before the Brie. So as I said this was a good place and meal despite my small hits in this review. I firmly recommend this place because I do expect you to have a nice meal. Ps. To the owners: your link to your website doesn't work via Yelp. To potential customers: you will have to go your search engine and find the Charred site.

That butter was stellar. For our entrees, I ordered the fresh catch, which was flounder, and my bf had the rabbit ravioli with a side of beans. He cleared his dishes and also finished off what I couldn't eat of mine. Everything was really quite tasty.
