Calamari
Cara T.

Good location near the cove. Not far away from the beautiful shores of La Jolla. We were able to get open seating right away at the bar just after 2 PM. Started off with a cold beer after spending the day at the beach. Atmosphere was relaxed, decor set to a sports bar tavern theme. (see video) Menu has lots to offer. We ordered their calamari appetizer which we found to be fresh, crispy and delicious. The staff didn't start off to engaging until we got a good conversation going with the bartender. It was actually his first day (after moving up from bar- backing). That made for a great "ice beaker" as my son is also a bartender. After that, we told him where were we from and then another server said his sister lived in the same exact area as us. So, these employees bumped up the rating to the 5 stars experience. Bravo This is a place we would revisit and explore more of the menu. The Spot offers pub fare such as wings, mac n cheese, burgers, pizza, etc. Their know for their signature Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, happy hour specials and late night options too!

This is "The Spot" when I'm in La Jolla. My hubby and I went to have lunch and we sat outside. Love the vibe, enjoyed my view and delicious fish and chips with garlic Parmesan fries. Our server was so kind and welcoming, food was served quickly and it was so delicious! I highly recommend.

Here is the receipt with the $25 NO ORDERING FEE added to the bill. WTF!

The absolute worst experience I have ever had at any eating or drinking establishment and I am a woman of a certain age so this is not my first rodeo. I guess I will make a point of going on Yelp first and checking out the 1 star reviews next time before going to a place like this. Wow! My mind is blown. I went with a friend to watch the World Cup Final today. She got there a half hour before the game and got us seats at the bar. I had a difficult time finding parking and didn't arrive until almost 12:30. My friend told me she had been advised by a very bitchy, beyond rude staff member that she couldn't sit there without constantly ordering food and/or drink! She had ordered street tacos when she got there but went ahead and ordered a cocktail. She didn't like her drink so I was drinking it when I got there and then ordered sliders about 20 mins later. We shared them and she ordered another drink. Mind you we are there with a full house of people drinking and eating, like thousands of sports bars everywhere. This place does not typically get a crowd like that on Sunday. They should have been grateful that people chose to go there when they could go anywhere. Anyway, we were there to watch the game and have a fun day. That soon came to a halt 3/4 of the way through the game when blonde bitch leans over the bar and tells me to order more food and drinks or leave. I told her she's harassing us, that we did order food and drinks. She turned to review what we had purchased and then says "you ordered appetizers" with a snarky look on her face. I ordered off of the f*ing bar menu that was handed to me! I told her I was waiting for my friend to return from the restroom. I wanted to leave. I was sitting next to the waitress/waiter station and overheard the staff frequently talk shit about customers. Unbelievable!! Well, my friend ordered another drink to appease the blonde jerk. I told my friend I would be going on Yelp and that chick came over and told me if I was going to give a bad review, I could just leave. I told her I am watching the rest of the game. She then proceeds to take a red lid and stick on top of one of those number holders for tables and puts it in front of us. Meaning we were not to be served anymore! It's like I got a Red Card for standing up to her ridiculous behavior, LMFAO. What a miserable turd of a person. The game ended 15 minutes later. We went to pay our bill and it was $110. Psycho chick had added $25 to the bill for a "NO ORDERING FEE" even though my friend had ordered another drink. How much food and drinks are we supposed to consume? Do they expect you to only stay for part of the game? Next thing you know they will start charging an entrance fee. Honestly, I wish they had because that would have saved me a lot of aggravation since I would have left at the audacity to charge a fee when it's a sports bar to begin with. My sweet friend spoke with the bartender a bit about it and gave the tip directly to her even though I really feel they were all kind of in on it and due to that $25 "fee" I would not have left a tip. The staff really made you feel unwelcome from the get go, except for the nice kid who was helping out. There are some really great establishments in our beautiful city. This is not one of them.

From top to bottom: Calamari, fried pickle chips, and California Cobb Salad with steak
Anastasia V.

Needed some calories after taking a yoga class nearby, so I stopped into The Spot as there were a good amount of people dining inside. This place was meh. The service felt rushed and our server was kind of rude. The food came out fairly quickly though and baseball was playing, so I didn't really mind. Both the calamari and fried pickle chips were decent. They were both too salty in my opinion, but the dipping sauces helped to mask some of the saltiness. I also ordered the California cobb salad and added steak to it. The steak was cooked well. When I think back to this meal, it was just fine.

Great craft beer selection

What a fantastic place to watch football. Great craft beer selection and a beautiful outdoor patio with a TV outside. Inside, 8+ TV inside with a friendly bartending staff.

Bacon cheeseburger
Tina C.

Great customer service from the waitress and runners but the host seemed quite the opposite ( no smile just where would you like to sit and then put the menus down and turned around and left). Huge indoor seating area with outdoor seating as well. Plenty of food and drink options. Food was very flavorful, fresh water with huge portions. If you're in the area I would def recommend giving this place a try.

Chili cheese
Stephanie X.

Decent spot for food. I ordered a chili cheese dog with the chili on the side. The inside has a bit of a weird smell, kind of musty and damp. Our server was very nice!

The spot is a very relaxing bar @ La Jolla in San Diego, don't be surprised if you get to see this gorgeous Labrador - his name is Jameson.

Excellent food and service. Ambiance very relaxing, one of the few spots that open late, I highly recommend this place, great location, great service and reasonable prices for this amazing location. Jameson - is a Labrador / dog that you may come across occasionally, I had the pleasure of meeting him, such a loving, friendly-Labrador, just like the vibe of this place. Have fun! La Jolla has amazing restaurants, this is one of the few places that open late.

Can I just show up and take my chances or should I make a reservation for a Sunday afternoon meal?

Is there outdoor seating for lunch service? If so, are heaters provided?

There is seating out front on the sidewalk. Not much room however. I believe there are heaters, but in So. Cal who needs them ? Drink more. Great place, only "comfortable" place ie" not fancy.

Fo they have happy hour?

Don't really know. We always went late.

Is there restrooms available for customers?

Yes there are restrooms.

What are suggested, healthy vegan options (ideally gluten free)?

We have several salads to choose from and we have a new veggie pasta launching next week! We also have a gluten-free pizza crust that is really yummy.

I really enjoy the experience of The Lot, but between this location and the one on Liberty Station,…read morethe service always leaves something to be desired. Each visit (three separate occasions), something I've ordered was either forgotten or brought out very late. On this particular visit (Fri, July 3rd), I went to see a movie for my birthday. Unfortunately, due to public transportation, I was unable to make it to the theater as early as I wanted. My movie started @ 1:30, but I didn't make it inside until about 1:40 or so. The trailers were still playing, but the lights were off inside and the other guests seemed to already have their food/drinks. So, I attribute some of the mishap to that. However, there were less than ten people in the theater. So, keep that in mind as well. I ordered poke nachos, a popcorn, and a soda. Pretty simple order, right? My "host" brought out the popcorn + drink pretty swiftly. The popcorn tasted stale, just like another time I'd visited. Even though I'm pretty sure their 1:30 movies are their first showing. About halfway through the movie, I pressed the call button because I still hadn't received my nachos. The host said, "They might be ready now. Let me check." Translation: "I forgot them." That was pretty annoying. Especially as this is the third time something like this has occurred at The Lot. And I've only been three times in total. Luckily, the popcorn was free because it was my birthday, which I had to remind the host twice before he tried charging me. Do not order it unless you enjoy stale popcorn. The nachos and ginger ale were tasty, though. Overall, the vibe/setup is nice for viewing films. I only which the service and attention to detail was better.

We arrived around 6 p.m. and had no trouble finding parking in the garage, which was a huge plus. Even better, parking is validated when you see a movie there. The theater itself is beautiful, with a restaurant, bar, indoor-outdoor lounge area, and a cute concession stand that makes it feel much more upscale than your average movie theater. After scanning our tickets, we went straight to our auditorium where we could order food either through a waitress or by using a QR code. I appreciated that they offer both paper menus and digital ordering options. The ordering app was incredibly user-friendly and easy to navigate. While some menu prices felt a little steep (around $20 for a hot dog or kids meal), the food itself was delicious. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and a Coke Icee. The Icee was a little more slushy than icy, but that was my only minor complaint. The theater was extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable. The reclining seats were great, and there was plenty of room between guests so you never felt crowded. One tip: bring a sweater or wear pants because it gets chilly inside, and the leather seats can feel a little cold and uncomfy against bare skin. Overall, The Lot delivers a premium movie-going experience, and I'd definitely recommend it for a fun date night or a special trip to the movies.

The restaurant offers a limited selection of popular foods and has a full bar. Its layout of incorporating the outdoors inside makes it spacious and airy. The restaurant bar lounge also has multiple large tv screens to view sports, news, etc... You don't have to watch a movie in the theater to dine here but that's what we did before the Devil Wears Prada II. Have dined at its sibling restaurant at the Liberty Station location but this was my first time dining here in this location. First although the views are nicer at the LS, at least there are no airplanes flying above you and the roaring noise, which is a major turn off. The restaurant decor is simple a tad elevated in style. From the menu we ordered: calamari, ahi tuna nachos and grilled salmon. The calamari wasn't good, too dry, sent it back. The ahi tuna nachos were ok but the ahi tune lack seasoning. The grilled salmon was good, but portions of the salmon and sides seem on the smaller side. The drinks menu had a good selection of wines but unfortunately many I wanted were not in stock...ie DAOU Rosé. Had to settle for Duckhorn Chardonnay which was good. There was only one staffer who was the host and the server. He did seat us quickly to our seating preference. But that quick action seemed to play throughout our dining time. The server wasn't too knowledgeable of the menu selections details; first telling us the salmon did have the skin and was baked. Later returning to correct himself, that the salmon did NOT have the skin and was not baked but grilled. We asked for the ahi tuna to be tossed in the dressing and instead were presented with the ahi tuna unseasoned with the dressing on the side. If this server had taken notes of our specific requests maybe mistakes could have been prevented. The server's made us feel rushed and this affected our ability to feel relaxed during our dining experience in such a negative way not 'Zen' considering that's in the restaurant's name. Due to abysmal service, did NOT feel any 'zen' vibes at Zentrl perhaps others will.
