This was a lucky find! We initially planned to go to another restaurant but it was too crowded and we just wanted something more chill so we can talk. The spot looked like that place and so we walked in, promptly greeted and seated. We sat at the table pretty close to the bar and our server told us that we can just order our drinks and food at the bar. A big selection of drinks, from margaritas to classic cocktails and beers. I really enjoyed the spicy margarita and the old-fashioned is not bad. For the food, I highly highly recommend the deep dish pizza (and onion rings for the apps). They have a personal sized deep dish pizza, which is perfect for one person. It's gooey, cheesy and doesn't sacrifice on taste just because it's a cheesy piece of pie. read more

I've been coming to The Spot in La Jolla for years, and it's disappointing to see what it has become under the new ownership. What was once a cozy Irish-style pub with generous portions and a welcoming atmosphere has turned into an overpriced, noisy restaurant that seems more interested in cutting costs than taking care of loyal customers. On my most recent visit, I ordered the lamb chops. The portions were shockingly small, with very little meat on the bones. To make matters worse, the plate was piled high with onion rings, apparently to fill the empty space. In the past, the lamb chops use to be served with just a few crispy onions underneath the chops, allowing the main dish to be the star. Now it feels like the onions are there to distract from how little food you're actually getting. Prices have gone up significantly while portions and quality have gone down. The atmosphere has also changed dramatically. The warm, comfortable pub feel is gone, replaced by a loud, crowded environment that lacks the charm that made this place special. It's unfortunate to watch a longtime La Jolla favorite lose its identity. Loyal patrons deserved better. read more

Good location near the cove. Not far away from the beautiful shores of La Jolla. We were able to get open seating right away at the bar just after 2 PM. Started off with a cold beer after spending the day at the beach. Atmosphere was relaxed, decor set to a sports bar tavern theme. (see video) Menu has lots to offer. We ordered their calamari appetizer which we found to be fresh, crispy and delicious. The staff didn't start off to engaging until we got a good conversation going with the bartender. It was actually his first day (after moving up from bar- backing). That made for a great "ice beaker" as my son is also a bartender. After that, we told him where were we from and then another server said his sister lived in the same exact area as us. So, these employees bumped up the rating to the 5 stars experience. Bravo This is a place we would revisit and explore more of the menu. Pleasantly surprised by my dinner here! Flew into San Diego late on a Monday night and arrived around 9:30 pm to my hotel in La Jolla. I was starving but didn't want to eat junk so when I asked the bell hop what was still open they told me The Spot. I took a seat at the bar in the corner, sports bar vibes, decent amount of people sitting at the bar eating and drinking but the restaurant itself was empty aside from a table or two. The bartender was nice, I ordered the grilled mahi mahi fish tacos and they were really delicious. The person who brought the sauces out to me told me they were extremely spicy and I appreciated the warning. Good flavor, not too salty, definitely hit the Spot, ha, ha. read more

The absolute worst experience I have ever had at any eating or drinking establishment and I am a woman of a certain age so this is not my first rodeo. I guess I will make a point of going on Yelp first and checking out the 1 star reviews next time before going to a place like this. Wow! My mind is blown. I went with a friend to watch the World Cup Final today. She got there a half hour before the game and got us seats at the bar. I had a difficult time finding parking and didn't arrive until almost 12:30. My friend told me she had been advised by a very bitchy, beyond rude staff member that she couldn't sit there without constantly ordering food and/or drink! She had ordered street tacos when she got there but went ahead and ordered a cocktail. She didn't like her drink so I was drinking it when I got there and then ordered sliders about 20 mins later. We shared them and she ordered another drink. Mind you we are there with a full house of people drinking and eating, like thousands of sports bars everywhere. This place does not typically get a crowd like that on Sunday. They should have been grateful that people chose to go there when they could go anywhere. Anyway, we were there to watch the game and have a fun day. That soon came to a halt 3/4 of the way through the game when blonde bitch leans over the bar and tells me to order more food and drinks or leave. I told her she's harassing us, that we did order food and drinks. She turned to review what we had purchased and then says "you ordered appetizers" with a snarky look on her face. I ordered off of the f*ing bar menu that was handed to me! I told her I was waiting for my friend to return from the restroom. I wanted to leave. I was sitting next to the waitress/waiter station and overheard the staff frequently talk shit about customers. Unbelievable!! Well, my friend ordered another drink to appease the blonde jerk. I told my friend I would be going on Yelp and that chick came over and told me if I was going to give a bad review, I could just leave. I told her I am watching the rest of the game. She then proceeds to take a red lid and stick on top of one of those number holders for tables and puts it in front of us. Meaning we were not to be served anymore! It's like I got a Red Card for standing up to her ridiculous behavior, LMFAO. What a miserable turd of a person. The game ended 15 minutes later. We went to pay our bill and it was $110. Psycho chick had added $25 to the bill for a "NO ORDERING FEE" even though my friend had ordered another drink. How much food and drinks are we supposed to consume? Do they expect you to only stay for part of the game? Next thing you know they will start charging an entrance fee. Honestly, I wish they had because that would have saved me a lot of aggravation since I would have left at the audacity to charge a fee when it's a sports bar to begin with. My sweet friend spoke with the bartender a bit about it and gave the tip directly to her even though I really feel they were all kind of in on it and due to that $25 "fee" I would not have left a tip. The staff really made you feel unwelcome from the get go, except for the nice kid who was helping out. There are some really great establishments in our beautiful city. The service felt rushed and our server was kind of rude. The food came out fairly quickly though and baseball was playing, so I didn't really mind. Both the calamari and fried pickle chips were decent. They were both too salty in my opinion, but the dipping sauces helped to mask some of the saltiness. Walked by The Spot while killing time before my hair cut and decided to come back after. Such a great casual vibe and good prices for the area. They have a great selection of food and appetizers. We ordered a few things from the menu and everything was amazing. There was plenty of seating inside and out. The outside seating offered a great view. Another year at the opening VIP party at the La Jolla Concours calls for a drink at The Spot after the event. We made our way up here a little before the event ended hoping to beat the crowd and grabbed a table in the bar to enjoy some drinks before calling it a night. We were able to walk up to the bar and grab drinks pretty quickly before the crowd came in. The ladies bartending were super friendly and keeping up with all of the customers.
