This place is always packed so we were pleasantly surprised to snag a shady outdoor seat on a Sunday afternoon. The menu is massive with 14 different burgers, for which you can sub for Beyond burger patties or their own grilled veggie patty, which we definitely took advantage of! They also have sandwiches, flatbreads, tacos and salads -- I think there's plenty for everyone and anyone here. Normally with such a giant menu, that usually signals to me that quality won't be very consistent but the items we ordered were amazing and huge in portion size. We tried their cheeseburger with Beyond and the Miso Ahi wrap, which were both excellent. I got the grilled chicken with veggies & fries for my son and we did their giant onion rings and Parmesan garlic fries with our burgers / wraps. The beer menu was extensive and our knowledgeable server provided great recommendations. We are eager to return again to try out more of their menu! read more

Public House is in my fiancé's and my rotation of La Jolla restaurants we regularly visit. There's a lot to love about it, like... 1. The food is really good. I've been here over 20 times and I order something different each time. The burgers, sliders, sandwiches, and flatbreads have nearly all been cooked and seasoned perfectly. They are balanced, there are a ton of options, and unique offerings like elk and bison are available. The menu rotates often. All of their sides have been good as well, even the salads!! 2. They have a sick beverage selection. From belgian ales, ciders, and sours, to stouts and pretty decent wines, there is surely something you'll enjoy drinking here. They often have Pliny the Elder (my favorite IPA), and they have even had Pliny the Younger for at least the last two releases. We were stoked to find this out and definitely plan to come here for the next release if they offer it again. 3. Woody, the owner, is often here walking around and checking on people, and I've seen him wipe and bus tables too. Love Woody's Hawaiian Wednesdays, where you can see him sporting one of his Hawaiian shirts and running 1/2 price sandwiches and flatbreads to his customers. Really, all of the people who work here are great. 4. This is the most Californian-style pub I've ever seen. Half of the seating is outdoors (mostly covered), a fourth of the seating is shared, and it's very much a local favorite. The customer base here can mostly be described as "dudes who just got done doing something active." Mostly golfing or surfing. Everyone is very friendly though. 5. They have amazing deals on a lot of their menu, you just have to pay attention to what's on special for the day you're going. It's always half off (now dine-in and with a purchase of alcohol only). Mondays are for sliders, Tuesdays are for burgers, Wednesdays are for flatbreads, sandwiches, and wine bottles, and Thursdays are for tacos. From 3pm to 8pm. They also have half-off select appetizers and $2 off beer 3-6pm M-F. With all of that said, I will just briefly mention that there are some items here that I do not recommend, like the Oktoberfest burger (if it is the same one from 2024), and the recent Miso Ahi Wrap. Just not very balanced items and seemingly a bit thrown together. I personally also haven't enjoyed the tacos I've tried--which have been vegetarian and pescatarian tacos--so either I've tried the wrong ones or maybe I recommend skipping Thursdays. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. We were seated right away, but most of the tables were occupied. I could definitely see this being a spot with a wait on a busier evening. Our service was fast and friendly, and we had an overall good experience. We were mostly looking for a nice spot to chat and have a bite outdoors and this very much did the job I started with a flight of beers, they had a pretty good selection, though unfortunately their menu wasn't totally in line with what their actual offerings were The food options were pretty good for bar food, but considerably higher prices than I would expect for bar food, even given the area. I went for the penne and my partner had the veggie burger, both were solid but nothing spectacular Overall I think it's a good spot to have a drink outside, but I'd probably recommend going elsewhere for food in the area read more

Fries and tater tots are perfect!! We wanted a quick lunch before going out for the night and came during happy hour. The mushroom bacon burger had a healthy amount of mushrooms and very crispy bacon. The fries were the perfect amount of crispy on the outside and the garlic Parmesan fries are coated heavily in garlic. The blue cheese dressing was perfect to put on the burger and fries. Our waitress also had an amazing dad joke for a Hefeweizen that we ordered. Despite it being busy she was very kind and welcoming. We came here Saturday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant was decently busy. We sat at the bar so we could watch college football. I ordered the Chicken Cobb and a glass of white wine. Cobbs are my favorite salad, whenever I see one I pretty much always order it since i will never make it at home because I will never have all the ingredients at one time. The Cobb was good....adequate amount of chicken and other components. My friend ordered the Patty Melt and a beer. He said it was just okay because it was not the kind of patty melt he had expected or been used to. Bartender was fun and friendly. We would come back again. Came here to watch a soccer game on a Saturday since I had an appointment nearby. This is the PERFECT place to watch a game. Literally pretty much everywhere you sit has a television in view. There is a bar outside with numerous TVs but we opted to go inside. We had their mimosa flight and everything was tasty. Then we had the flatbread and the Kobe sliders. Everything was great! Special shout out to Alex C. who was our server. She was PHENOMENAL, had a great attitude, and was so fast to help not just our table but everyone around us quickly. It's La Jolla so make sure to add in time to find parking. With that said we went midday on a Saturday and there was no seating wait for the restaurant which was great! Was lucky to find parking right up front on a Thursday night in downtown La Jolla. Thursday night is taco night so tacos are 50% off. Able to try different varieties, including fried fish, shrimp, & carne asada. They were thick tacos (2 was definitely more than enough), and scrumptious. Our whole table felt satisfied. We were indifferent about the sauce it came with, Tacos did not seem like it needed it. We also ordered a plate of truffle fries. Enough for the table of 4 to share as an appetizer. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and pepperoni flatbread. They both came out pretty fast, while we enjoyed the beautiful San Diego weather. The sandwich was good size and the flavor was wonderful. The flatbread was good size and not too greasy, I did ask for light cheese, I am not sure if that made it to the kitchen. It was fine though. I had half left over for breakfast in the morning. I had been wanting to try Public House for many years and for some reason, just never got around to it! When my maid of honor asked to plan a casual dinner for my bridesmaids, her, and myself to meet to talk about some upcoming logistics of wedding stuff, I immediately threw out Public House as a central meetup spot! I was immediately impressed upon arrival. We were seated at the cutest four person table right outside on the patio which was placed in it's own private corner surrounded by plants and flowers. The entire place looks like it might have been a house at one point and then converted into a restaurant and I always love the vibe and ambiance of those types of places. The menu isn't overly expansive, but definitely has plenty of options for everyone. I opted to go with the Chicken Cobb Salad minus the bleu cheese. I thought it was interested that there was an option to have the chicken tossed in buffalo or bbq sauce, but I decided to keep it original that night. The salad ended up being quite large and I only ate about 2/3 of it. It was very filling and fresh. My only qualm is the price as $21 for a salad is steep, but I guess they have to pay La Jolla rent... Overall, I loved this place and would definitely go back! read more
