3.5 stars The views amazing. The foods good. The service is sloooooow. We went for breakfast/brunch. We were there for 2 hrs & had to track down someone to pay them. We ordered the lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes & a classic breakfast plate. The pancakes were tasty. The classic breakfast was just that. We ordered coffee & it was cold, then lukewarm, then we finally got a hot one. The waiter was friendly & joked with us about it when we requested a refill. Want the cold one? Ha. No the hot one please. Overall good experience. Just don't go if you're in a rush.

Had a great happy hour here recently. The outdoor seating area is gorgeous -- right on the cliffs with sweeping views of the cove, perfect for catching golden hour. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, checking in at just the right moments and clearly knew the menu well. The happy hour cocktail deals were a great value, and everything came out quickly. Will definitely be back.

The people were very welcoming and friendly. The views are great. The food was okay. But the smell is such a deterrent to coming back to this restaurant. I know it's not their fault, but it does negatively affect the restaurant experience.

Came here Super Bowl Sunday. Sun was shining, parking was easy, and brunch had no wait. Coast toast was incredible, surprised how they can replicate the exact taste and texture of a souffle!

What a beautiful restaurant with an amazing view add the fact that it was built in the late 1800s makes even more worth visiting. We came on the weekend and were lucky enough to get a table on the outside balcony without a reservation. I felt so lucky and appreciated that they even tried to see us. We weren't aware, but it's so popular for brunch there now we know. It did take a little bit for our server to come over but again they were quite busy and when she did come over, she was so sweet and I loved that she just smiled nonstop. She gave us some time to look over the menus and brought us some water once we were ready. We ordered a margarita and a beer as well as our food. My husband ordered a club sandwich and I got the fish tacos. Both were amazing and portions were huge and we were only able to eat about half while there the overlook to the ocean was worth the prices and the experience I would come again in a heartbeat and try a few other things. It was a great stop and well worth checking out if you're in La Jolla.

One of the coolest ocean view restaurants in La Jolla! I love their outdoor patio and it's dog friendly. They prepared a water bowl for our dog, so sweet! And everyone's so friendly and I was surprised how their price is reasonable considering their location is prime. And avocado toast was huge and so good, and their clam chowder!! It's the bomb, was sooo good. Definitely would come back!

The smell from the seals is nauseating The French toast was so thick that the center was soggy. The banana foster is too sweet and the classic French toast is boring at best The views and people are fantastic. The smell will keep me from going back The lame excuses by the owners cannot cover up the stench. The French toast is lame at best

2/21/26 - I had Fish Tacos, and my friend had a Salmon BLT Sandwich, with hot tea.

My friends and I have eaten our lunches here through the years. We visit La Jolla Cove at least once a year to check out the birds, seals, and sea lions. After a day of visiting the wildlife, we go to Brockton Villa for lunch before heading back home. On February 21, 2026, my friend and I returned here for lunch. The food portions were very generous, and the service was excellent! We always look forward to returning here every time we are in the area. It is so popular, we almost always have a wait to be seated. But the wait is worth it! Highly recommended!

The view is gorgeous. Hard to beat it. You have the cove and the water and the breeze right there. Inside wasn't as pretty. Felt very laid back and almost like a coffee shop vibe. Super chill. There's a front patio and a back patio section. The chairs aren't the comfiest. We came on a Monday afternoon around 3pm. It was suppose to be just drinks but there were a few things on the menu that caught my eye. There were 4 of us plus a dog in our party. They offered a dog bowl with water. We ordered the following: Passionfruit Mojito which was super good. Margarita, which wasn't too exciting. A cup of BV Epic Chowder - which was creamy and had a lovely ivory color. It was a b bowl that satisfied my peckish hunger, but not curiosity of what it could have been. Would have benefitted from being a bit more smokier to really draw out the flavors a bit more Local Mussels - which had a mediterranean broth, harissa oil, cilantro, scallions, and grilled baguette. Baguette was great. It was nice and charred. The broth threw us for a loop. It was more curry like which added an interesting twist but can't say it was my favorite. Server was nice. Front host wasn't the greatest. Parking is wherever you can find it. We came to see the seals and found parking nearby. But it's not the easist place to park. Happy hour is from 3pm to 6pm. It's not the greatest of happy hour. $3 off select apps (which still comes out to like 20 bucks), $5 beers, and $9 broc-tails, which are just what they call their cocktails. It's a 2 star place for me because the prices, although you're paying for the view and convenience, were high and the flavor of the food wasn't spectacular. The staff, although it was only 30 percent full, seemed distant or preoccupied for maybe preparing for the dinner rush.

The food was okay, nothing special. We mainly came for the view, and that's where everything went wrong. We've been here a few times before, and this was by far the absolute worst experience. We were seated immediately in the back, even though there were two front-row tables available. When we asked to move, they said someone else had requested the table -- but no one ever sat there. They pretended to "clean" it and then left it untouched the entire time. When we tried to call the waitress a few times, she sounded irritated every time she approached. The service felt dismissive and careless, and it honestly ruined the visit. Horrible experience overall. Definitely not worth coming for the view or the food anymore.

Hard chewy potatoes served with watered down eggs Benedict.

Sadly a yearly tradition will be no longer. Brockton Villa used to serve this amazing sangria and their food was too die for. Lines would be down the stairs with wait times. They no longer have their sangria. Hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict had no flavor and seemed watered dow or thin. The ham for eggs benedict was also sliced thin like for a ham sandwich not thick Canadian bacon. They don't have blue cheese dressing and their ranch was also watered down. The potatoes were not cooked long enough and so chewy we gave up. No longer worth trying to find parking to eat here. So sad and disappointed as we used to love this place.

The service was fantastic. The drinks were absolutely amazing (pumpkin spice latte with actual pumpkin ftw). The best lemon ricotta pancakes I've ever eaten and the rest of the menu was also stellar. Can't beat the views of the seals and swimmers just down the cliff.

I've been coming to Brockton Villa for nearly a decade. Their iconic Coast Toast has made it one of my all-time favorite spots for breakfast or brunch. That said, prices have really climbed over the years. These days, it's more of an occasional treat than a regular stop. Honestly, if it weren't for the nostalgia, I'm not sure it would still feel worth it. That ocean breeze (and smell haha) is definitely part of the experience. Be sure to make a reservation on OpenTable and give yourself extra time for parking.

    Do they have a surcharge?

Did today. I've never had one before. Not thrilled.

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes, OpenTable

Do they allow dogs on the patio?

    Is breakfast available during lunch?

Yes breakfast is available during lunch hours

On weekdays, what time is breakfast served till?

    Whole day

    Is this place pet friendly?

Not really. It is too crowded, for one thing. It is a small beach bungalow-turned-restaurant and there isn't that much space between tables. So even a small dog would be close to other people.

Does it accommodate big groups as 14 people?

I believe it does. There is a large main dining are where they can put together several tables. I would call to confirm but I believe I have seen parties like you are describing.

Pardon my question, but can you smell the seals from here?

On certain days, there is definitely a fishy smell coming from the coast (I've been living in the area 30 years now). In my opinion, usually the food and view is worth it! There's inside seating if you prefer, but you won't get the view. ;)

Does the restaurant have parking? Is it recommended for children?…

It has side street parking only and yes,it is recommended for children.

Chef Maeve Rochford, the owner of Sugar & Scribe won Season 2 of Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship. We recommend trying the following: *Butter Poached Lobster Benedict with Poached eggs, Maine Lobster, Arugula, Parsley hollandaise with side of potatoes and bacon. *Blueberry Love Pancakes with blueberry compote, snow sugar and white chocolate mousse. Both orders were excellent 5/5 stars. I tried the Horchata Latte but couldn't really taste the horchata and wasn't sweet enough for me. I wouldn't order this latte again, but maybe y'all would enjoy the flavor better. The restaurant has outdoor seating with heating lamps and welcomes well behaved dogs in their outdoor patio. The drinks were also fun and beautifully presented. The food, however, was just okay for me. The chicken biscuit and gravy was definitely the highlight and I'd give it a 4/5. The blueberry pancakes were the biggest disappointment. They were much drier than I expected, and while I understand the glitter topping is part of what makes them unique, it just wasn't for me. Overall, the vibes and service were great, but the food didn't quite live up to the hype. I'd give it a 3.5/5. Not a bad experience at all, just not somewhere I'd personally go out of my way to visit again.

Perfect blend of sweet, tangy, fluffy, with a little crunch. Definitely a good sweet treat to start the day. I got a spinach, Swiss cheese, bacon omelet. The hash browns were pretty good! Crunchy, salty, and went well with the eggs. I was hoping for more of a coffee flavor in the white mocha. They make the whipped cream from scratch. The mocha was mid. I would say this place is a lil over a 4 star place. The beach bowl is an açaí bowl on top of Greek yogurt. I thought it was a little too tangy for my taste. I think having either the yogurt or açaí bowl works better than mixing the two.

The food was good but not particularly memorable, and when I first visited, the restaurant was still relatively new, so the service was somewhat inconsistent. My husband returned more recently and felt the experience had improved, which is encouraging. Parking was probably the biggest drawback. The lot was quite busy around lunchtime, and I ended up parking nearby. The area is built on a fairly steep hillside, so there is some walking on a significant incline. It wasn't a major issue for me, but it could be inconvenient for anyone with mobility, knee, or walking limitations. Overall, I'd still go back. While my initial impression was probably closer to a 3.5/5, the beautiful setting and reports of improved service make it a solid 4/5 and worth another visit.
