The Stable! This is such a great spot! I always start off here on a weekend night, and sometimes end the night here, too. As far as gay bars go, this is my preferred spot. It feels like home base. Perhaps most importantly, it doesn't have the sketchy feel that many gay bars and clubs have, where dudes walk up to you and start getting up in your business without asking for consent. No, this is a place to hang out with friends, or perhaps go out and meet some new ones. During the warm season, they have a spectacular outdoor area. It gets kind of crowded between 10:30-12 on a weekend, but that's fine. Prepare to make friends with whoever's sitting nearby... most folks are very nice here. During the chilly season, it's a comfortable temperature inside. There's really nowhere to put your coat, so wear a nice one ;) The drinks are great and the bartenders are excellent. You'll quickly be on a first-name basis with them. The sangria, if you are an aficionado, is always on point. They kind of rapid-fire through making drinks for loads of patrons, but don't hesitate to ask if they can make you something special--they'll make it worth your wait. The cons... long bathroom lines, but folks there are pretty friendly, and you'll probably make some new friends while waiting. read more

One of my favorite bars in Providence. The Stable is usually my first stop on a weekend night. This place is always busy, and deservedly so. The bartenders are the nicest bartenders. Ever. Drinks are on the strong side ( :D ), and reasonably priced. But let's be honest. The absolute best thing about the Stable is the back patio. In the summer, its PACKED. In the colder months, good luck getting a spot by one of the heaters. The only thing that is a slight drawback is the bathrooms. There are only two bathrooms, and at 11:00pm on a Saturday night, you could be in line for a little while. I'm a huge fan of gay bars and this location is pretty rad. Bartenders are always courteous and prompt, even if I am a woman ;) The drinks are super cheap. The music is always loud and will get you moving at one point or another while you're in there. The inside bar itself is a bit narrow; there are stools at the bar and few tables around, but this place can get very crowded on a Friday/Saturday night and you'll find it's hard to move around. During the nice months, there is a cute little patio out back which is probably my most favorite area of The Stable. Great place to come on a Sunday afternoon for Sangria Sundays with a few friends, sit on the patio to breathe in the fresh air and catch some rays. read more

Where to begin? I've known the owner for 30 plus years since he was employee at another establishment, before he became the owner of what now is the Stable. So the Stable started as "Blinky's" a nice place for the working gay man to hang out, for the lack of a better analogy a Gay version of "Cheers" were everyone knew your name and you felt more like family than friends. I don't frequent Stable often. I have one friend who swears by their sangria and as it was his birthday last night we went to get his fave. The space is small and dark but not in a bad way necessarily lol. It's very much a divey kind of spot where everyone knows everyone and you're bound to run into the same people every weekend. The sangria is delish, I've had other drinks in the past there but nothing that really tickled my fancy. The music is loud and the video screens play music videos. This gay bar is a nice place to meet up with your friends before going out dancing or whatever plans you might have for the day or night. Friendly and polite staff. They have video music on flat TVs and the bathroom is clean (that's good) I wish this place were bigger. There is not too much room specially when the place is with 15 + people, since is a long rectangular space. But to chat and have a good time with friends or lover its cool. The decoration is well done, clean and simple. I like the simplicity and the laid back atmosphere. I just love the Stable. Most of my male friends are gay so we typically end up here at some point on our nights out. Everyone is so friendly, they play great music, and the red sangria is delicious. The prices are reasonable and they are open even during snow storms which came in handy last weekend when everything was shutting down because of the snow! I came here as part of a NYE bar crawl. It was packed with attractive polite and friendly staff and patrons. No cover chage was definitely a plus. The drinks were fairly priced and generous in portions. It's a bit narrow which results in a tight walk to the small dance floor or the bathrooms but worth the trip just to see the sights. I LOVE the Stable.........yes, it's a gay bar, however...... even if you are not gay.. (and I'm not)... you will feel so comfortable once you go inside. You can easily make friends with everyone......... Not to mention you might have the opportunity to meet one of their famous Rhode Island drag queen guest bartenders........ That in itself is worth the price of a drink (which, by the way, are very, very reasonable)!!! They make everyone feel welcome and it is a pleasure to sit in such a nice, CLEAN bar, also they have added a very nice outdoor patio, which makes having a few drinks outside on a beautiful New England afternoon/evening even more fun. The problem with gay bars in Providence is that you always see the same faces, and the faces at Stable are not that young. Not necessarily a problem, just not my preference. Whenever I take my gay friends out, I always suggest Stable because it is light-years better than Mirabar and free entry, unlike Dark Lady. Let me start out by saying I don't frequent the gay scene all that often, but one of my best friends does and has tried to "show me around" lately. Last week we stopped in at The Stable in Providence in the early afternoon. I loved the theme of the bar! You pick up on little things as you look around, but the atmosphere is pretty awesome. I also loved their Sangria, and it wasn't all that expensive either. The bartender at the time was a little snippy but I've been assured this isn't always the case, and to be entirely honest that is the least of the concerns I have when trying a new spot out in Providence. This place could be great if they maintained their standards. I have been here from out of town a handfull of times and never had a bad time. However, unapologeticly sweet "martinis" and the fact that the bartender removes his shirt have soured The Stable a little to me.
