Although located in a not so great area in West Sac, Cheers does have that dive bar charm. It is super tiny inside with minimal seating other than around the bar. They have a pin ball machine, 1 pool table and a shuffleboard which I don't think is in use. We came here because they were hosting a pool game for our league and the owner or manager was nice enough to supply us with food since they do not have a kitchen. The bartender was quick, efficient and friendly. The regulars were also very welcoming. Overall, it's more like a 3.5 but chose to round up since we had a good time and appreciate the hospitality of the owner/manager. read more

OK so here's the Situation report....It was New Year's Day and my power had been out for about 16 hours and I really wanted to watch the 49ers vs Raiders game. So I went out and my 1st and 2nd choice places were closed and too packed...so I quickly yelped what else was nearby and found Lighthouse and Cheers bar were down the road. I stopped at the first one I came across which happened to be Cheers (also I had been to lighthouse before and I'm always up for trying new things!) The parking lot was empty and it looked closed, but we still decided to give it a try. So we let ourselves in through a mini iron gate and opened the door that faces the street and to our surprise it was open! We walked through a mesh screen and a huge cleaning chemical scent hit us right in the face... it was super quiet too, but there were a handful of people there (Raiders fans- booo ) and they had the game on a few TVs (muted though since ppl were paying for Jukebox time). My friend brought in her Starbucks drink (since she doesn't drink alcohol and wanted a nice sipper)...she was immediately told that it's not allowed so she put it back in the car...I suddenly thought that this spot was not a good choice...but I really wanted to watch the game and to give it a shot. I was afraid the chemical smell would make me feel nauseous and cause a headache, but fortunately my nose adapted...and figured hey it could be worse..at least we know they clean and it didn't smell like shit. They actually had coffee there so my friend opted for that and she thought it was pretty good! I got Modelo on tap followed by a Jamaica cider. The Modelo tasted a little flat, but I got through it. The cider was way better. Cheap drinks so that's a plus (and they didn't taste like chemical - thank goodness). The first bartender (a girl named Sam I think I heard), was not the friendliest, but she still greeted and tended to us. Another bartender came in later, an Asian guy with great humor and a huge personality, and it immediately warmed the place up. There was also a couple that brought in some beef stew to share with everyone so that made it feel more welcoming. I ended up chatting with a cute guy named George (Cowboys fan unfortunately) who also was there for his first time. It got a little packed at the bar after halftime and my friend felt a little uncomfortable, so we left in the 3rd quarter and went to grab lunch and finish the game on my phone. Overall, It wasn't the best - I prefer to watch the game with the volume up and drinks and initial impression could have been better, but it ended up being just what I needed to get my mind off of my stresses (namely the power outage at home). I still like my other spots better, but wouldn't mind returning to the bar again and giving it another shot... They also have pool tables and an Avatar pinball machine that were calling my name. :) read more

If I could give zero, I would. Not because it's a dive bar; I love dive bars and seek them out. Not because it was dead and karaoke started way after the stated start time. I get, bars don't always run on schedule. No, the one star (which is really a zero, kids) is because THE BARTENDER WAS CLIPPING HIS CUTICLES (OR NAILS, GROSS EITHER WAY) NEXT TO THE OPEN TOP ICE COOLER. I AM FUCKING DISGUSTED. Had a LOT of Fun. Karaoke was good. A LOT of regulars there and everyone seemed to get along. There was flooding from the restrooms on to the bar floor and only ONE bartender, I completely understand that he can't clean AND serve but I DID witness on MULTIPLE occasions, him going straight from mopping to making a drink WITHOUT washing his hands.. This place was a convenient place to stop when heading to Davis and needed to kill some time. The drinks are good, but not "generous" with the pours, but still good. It's a hole-in-the-wall place you'd never find if you didn't already know it was there. The inside is dated and dark with the few regular visitors spread through out. I just want to start by saying I've been a returning customer for months now. I know not every bartender is like this and understand that people do have bad days. This is an amazing bar to go to but there is a line between unprofessional staff and a staff member having a bad day. With that being said, I don't want cheers to have a one star rating because it's not a one star bar. This rating it for the bartender. We love karaoke night! Sadly last night was most likely our last night going to cheers, I didn't catch the bartenders name.. me and a couple friends came to do karaoke. For starters the bartender was so difficult to get her attention, she was either outside smoking with her friends or telling us to wait in a very unprofessional tone. Finally after getting her attention and buying a few drinks and shots we finished them. We flagged her down once again and we bought two $10 drinks and took ONE sip of each of them. One friend stepped out and took a phone call and got lost (not familiar with the area). My friend and I asked the bar tender if she could hold our drinks for us as we will be back with in 5 mins and there is only a sip out of both cups, she had agreed. We came back moments later after finding my friend and our drinks were gone. The bar tender had dumped out the drinks and was completely rude after that. We asked for water at that point to just for the fact that she was already rude and we didn't want to deal with all of the unprofessional type of person she was. The karaoke/DJ person has walked up to us shortly after us getting the water telling us we should've tipped the bar tender because SHE (bartender) was upset. The Karaoke lady had also mentioned to us that the bartender requested that ALL songs we requested to sing gets shoved to the bottom of the list because we ask for our drinks back and didn't tip the bartender for the fact she refused to remake us the drinks she said she wouldn't throw out.. While making my drink the spout of the gin bottle had problem coming out, so she took it off and poured it out, I'm over here like thats what I'm talking about. Anyways next was tonic and guess what came out of the fountain head, pepsi! omg noooooooo..... so a remake happened haha..... . After my drink, i was ready for some cold beer to clear up the sweet palet...... so i got a draft pbr for 2.50 in a pint glass. Of course crazy me added a cherrie and lemon. cherry but don't muddle it please...... sooooo the boo ordered same beer as me, sooooo the barista was like you want a fruit basket like his..... omg i almost spit out my drink and was just dying in the corner hahahahha....... . alrighty i love my fruit basket drink ha. . Overall the dive bar is reasonable for the drinks. The bar is pretty complete with the selections, but there is no belvedere wifey..... but they have my favorite so not my problem..... they got darts, ski ball, pool table, and of course a juke box! The bartender is nice, and funny in her own way, got our drinks fast and i shall be back..... hopefully i don't run into gordon like the other people mention, eeekkkkk..... but for a friday afternoon it was a good crowd with about 8 people.... did i enjoy my drinks, sure did, did i like this place? sure do. Went for karaoke Saturday night, and was impressed by the friendly and funny bartender, and the karaoke jock, who was actually the daytime bartender, pulling a double duty shift. He had a little trouble with the sound system, but gave it a great try and did not give up. Good music selection, and though I don't drink, the coffee was respectable, and not expensive. I noticed the drink prices were very fair, and the menu was looking good, though the kitchen was closed at the time, after 9 in the evening. I had a blast dancing, and singing, and shooting pool, and there are plenty of seats for everyone and tables. The people in the crowd were very friendly, and some very pretty ladies made my night, being real and comfortable with a newcomer. A good time was had by most everyone, and I will be coming back for more! A lovely dive, just a couple of minutes from downtown Sac, I'm going for the open mic soon too. Cheers, to Cheers! read more
