We stopped here after reading the reviews. It did the job. The price was very reasonable, $7 for a burrito bowl and $2 for a fountain drink. My burrito bowl was advertised to have grilled veggies. It included the usual onions and peppers, but also some unexpected ones like zucchini, mushrooms and celery. I added a fair amount of green salsa. It was funny because the sign out front says legendary Mexican food since 1990, we knew it would be unlikely. The service was ok. The food was salty, the burrito looked like something I would wrap, it fell apart On the first bite, had to eat it with a fork and knife. The carnitas were salty. The saving grace? We were pleasantly surprised by this place today. We didn't know where to go but found this gem right next to tons of other places to eat. They're kid friendly, which is great when you have a two year old. They had brand new crayons and coloring books for kids to use while there. Food was really good, considering none of the staff I saw was Hispanic (not that it necessarily means the food is good, but sometimes you expect that for authenticity in ethnic food). Most places I order chili verde it's bland and spiceless. This was the perfect amount of spice and the pork was very good. My wife and toddler had the nachos and a burrito. WOW! A local spot hole in the wall for sure, but this place did not disappoint!!! My boyfriend, who is a local from Cannon Beach, took me here for lunch. He ordered us a pork quesadilla the way the owner has it (it's not on the menu but just do it)! The mouth watering pork was to die for. It is huge, but I ate every bite! Wow! Another Seaside disappointment using Yelp reviews. What gives? Went in for lunch not too busy. It as its name implies is a self service joint with seating. I had a spicy vegetable burrito and asked if it has cheese in it and was told yes. What I got for $7.50 was a tortilla with iceberg lettuce and almost hard and cold zucchini and celery in it and not much else. A trickle if any cheese. No rice no beans nothing. It was not the least bit spicy and I had to add a ton of hot sauce, then it just fell apart. What a disappointment!! Guacamole was served in a small plastic condiment cup and cost $4.25 chips were extra. The guacamole was fresh but I make the same at home nothing outstanding. Carne Asada platter consisted of rice and beans a bit of cheese, two flour tortillas and then burnt black steak and again the same raw vegetable mix with the added bonus of almost raw mushrooms. Almost $12. Rip off!! I have no idea why this place gets such good reviews and I wish we'd tried the taco place across the street. If people think this is good Mexican food I should open a taco stand in my back yard because my Mexican food is much better and I'm not even Mexican. Nor were they. Seaside was the place to be in June, especially if you were in my family. Because my family had a family reunion in Seaside that week. My husband and I like to eat more than most people in our family. (To clarify: we enjoy eating more, and we also eat more in volume.) So we scouted out The Stand as a place to grab some great Mexican food in between the planned family reunion meals. TRY THE NACHOS!! We also loved the American Taco. And the tamales were excellent too. Everything I ate was terrifically delicious. Sure the rice was authentic mexican but i got it to go and after digging in, they put the cheese on the bottom, where it stuck to the paper plate!Yuck. On the outside The Stand would appear to the majority to be a total dive. You might pull up and say "Carl, where the hell are we? Why have you taken me here?! What is wrong with you?" but you will be eating your words as soon as you eat the blessed food that waits inside. The veggies are fresh. The tortillas are made in house. The meat...the MEAT. It is so moist, so flavorful, and so wonderfully textured. Every piece of pork is caramelized and bursting with the perfect blend of acidity and spices. It's like that perfect piece of meat on your plate that you save to eat last except it's EVERY piece. The steak is tender and just charred enough. You really can't go wrong with what you order. The only wrong you can do is not going in. I do not give five star ratings to everyone. Go to this place. The next time I'm in Seaside I will consider bypassing hotels completely and beg the staff to let me live in their lobby. read more

This has got to be the best Mexican food at the coast. We (the wife and I) have been twice now and everything we've ordered has been fantastic. The portions are large. The prices are reasonable. The flavors blend wonderfully. They have black beans as an option (this is important to be The staff is friendly. They have outdoor seating for those 2-3 months when that works at the coast. So far we've had: Carne asada burrito (good seasoning and salsa, not as lean as I prefer) Chicken quesadilla (large and piled high) Chile verde burrito (leaner than asada, swimming in tomatillo and juices, delicious) Bean tostada (awesome fried tortilla, pico de gallo added great flavor) This place has definitely become a fixture for our Seaside visits. read more

I was a little put off at first at the price of a taco but what I got was at least double the meat of your average taqueria in a single taco. I had heard about this place the last time I was in Seaside, but due to the limited hours did not have a chance to try it. This time I made an effort to grab a meal here. While the food was good, I think my expectations were too high based on the reviews I read here. It was not amazing and I was not blown away, it wasn't even the best Mexican food I had while in seaside (the place across the street was much better). My wife and I are huge mexican food fans and when we saw all the great reviews we decided to give this little hole in the wall a shot. Wish we hadn't. Terrible. Should be called the "Stand up and leave while you still can" unfortunately. We started with some crappy tortilla chips (anything you buy at the grocery store would be better. They were warm though, so at least they did that right) and mediocre pico de gallo, which sadly turned out to be the highlight of our meal. When the rest came, the rice was mushy and overcooked, the beef was 50% chunks of fat and the beans were bland and odd tasting. My burrito was barely wrapped (fell apart immediately) and my wife's quesadilla was just weird looking (Not flat, but like a poorly made taco). We choked down enough to satiate ourselves until our next meal, but ultimately felt like the $20 we spent was a complete waste of money. read more

Best burrito I had on the west coast... Ironic that it was in Oregon, not Cali. Juicy carne Asada, good blend/assortment of ingredients (cool sour cream, fresh Guac, delicious warm black beans, piquante salsa). Every bite was heavenly... Or rather scoop. The burrito was falling apart so I had to rip pieces of the tortilla and dip it in to the innards. Not a problem, would do again. I had a combination plate with chili relleno and a pork taco, which was delicious. Their beans and rice was good and I liked their salsa especially. Now,.. there is a little more to talk about here. This was a cash only place and I didn't have enough cash, and the nice lady of the restaurant told me to go ahead have the food first and pay her later because an atm was three blocks away. When I thanked her and seated myself, she came up to me again and said it's already payed by someone. Immediately I realized this was some random kindness you come across once in awhile but I wasn't ready for that. My head was still fuzzy from series of drunken nights and lack of sleep past few days. The funny thing was nobody around my table seemed to be surprised to hear that. The lady said 'this is Seaside'. Now I have pressure to pay that back. It's pretty awesome to see that kindness spreads like that. It values way more than one free lunch. read more

Our fav place for Mexican Food. We've been going ever since Jose' and his wife had the place on Ave. U and it was always filled with surfers! My favorite thing is the veggie tostada with chicken. It has tons of fresh sauteed veggies and lettuce, cheese and sour cream etc. and just the right amount of chicken for this girl...oh and with black beans, yum. I don't think it's even on the menu but Jose' knows what I like. :) Their Combo Burrito is so awesome too...!!! Whatever kind you want, it is huge and filled with the beans, rice, cheese, etc. HUGE. Oh, gosh this is good! The meat is well prepared and flavored. And, is that real lard in the refried beans? I believe so! This is no fancy place, but it's taste and quality are excellent. It's a short walk from most places in Seaside, which is great to avoid the hassle of getting back in the car and dealing with Highway 101. read more
