Stopped in for lunch and ordered a small combo with a chicken mole' enchilada, chile relleno, rice and beans. It was all delicious, flavorful, especially the dark mole' and moist chicken inside the enchilada. I walked in alone and was immediately greeted with a hi, how are you and seated by a window with a great view. I also had a Oaxaca grande margarita that was absolutely delicious and refreshing. I come visit the Oregon coast every year and this place will be on my list to eat every time in the future! Clean and well maintained, cute dining room. All newly updated. Unfortunately the food here has really gone down hill. It tastes like it's precooked days ago and microwaved. The taco shells were even burnt. Everything is stale. The chips you can buy at a grocery store are a million times better than the ones they served. Please work on your food quality! Service is always good. read more

Decent Mexican food. Better than I was prepared for. I had a combo with chimichanga and chile relleno. The relleno was just okay. The chimichanga was very satisfying. The ground beef tacos were totally old school which pleased my wife. They appear to have a big drink selection but we ran into issues with it not being available. 4-4.5 stars. We were grateful to have a place that sat us quickly on a busy Thursday when wait times were long and other places were closing. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The inside was nice. Tables were cleaned as needed and could be moved to accommodate groups of different sizes. I visited with my husband and kids. We had margaritas (highly recommend!), steak fajitas (lots of food, pretty good), burrito loco (huge, tasty tomatillo sauce), kids quesadilla and kids cheeseburger. The portions are reasonable. Service is good. Definitely a good place to go for standard Mexican food. read more

We ordered food for 6 (4 adults and two children) and everyone was happy with what they ordered, although it ended up being family style, we all tried each other's dishes. We ate everything. The ambiance of this place is incredible! From the speakers blasting rancho music outside to the insanely steamy fajitas plates reminiscent of Mount Saint Helens. The service was stellar. Coming from Colorado, if this is the best Mexican restaurant on the Oregon Coast, then Oregonians should raise their expectations... A family-run restaurant w/ great margaritas! - True. Went on July 5th, it was packed w/ folks waiting on the corner & across the street. The kitchen was slow, but that wasn't surprising for July 4th weekend in the area. It was loud w/ the place that full. (To the point that it was uncomfortable for my older relative & none of us couldn't hear what we were saying to each other at our table easily.) The restaurant is decorated w/ a lot of personality & attention to detail. Staff was friendly. Although there was a small bit of a language barrier w/ us & the waitress, we got what we intended to order. Chicken taco plate & fish taco plate, margaritas w/ salt. Each table got salsa & chips. (We found better salsa than what was served at El Trio Loco at the Little Apple grocery across the street.) Fish tacos had a lot of fish & were served w/ lime. Tortillas, beans & rice were good. The pico de gallo was mostly onions though, which ruined the main part of the dish for me. Chicken taco plate was similarly disappointing. Served in hard shell tacos, reminiscent of school lunches, they had only shredded chicken in them. No tomatoes or pico de gallo, no cheese, nothing. We ate our rice & beans, tried our tacos, and walked home via the beach buzzed from our margaritas, but still hungry. I'm hoping part of the food being sub par was the busy weekend & perhaps under staffing in the kitchen. I *might* give this place one more chance on a less busy weekend, but it would be hard to go back. (If you're up for Korean / Mexican fusion, we found much better tacos at Rice & Shine in Wheeler. Found this place on Yelp while in Manzanita for the weekend. Ordered food to go on a Sunday evening. They have an expansive menu online to view before ordering. Placed the order over the phone and was told it would be 15 minutes. It was ready and waiting when we arrived. We decided to order the El Loco Trio platter with beef, chicken and shrimp and a taco salad. Both were very good. The beef and chicken were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp, however, was extremely salty and disappointing. We weren't able to eat it. The platter had plenty of food, including refried beans, rice, avacado, onions, peppers, limes and flour tortillas. The taco salad was fresh and came with guacamole and sour cream. The tortilla bowl it came in was nice and crisp. Our order came with tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were on the stale side, but we had plenty of other food, so we didn't miss them Overall a good experience. Would recommend! read more

Look, I hate leaving these types of reviews. I really do. I can understand how a place like this can be price gouging because it's in the middle of a super cute boutique boujee coastal town such as Manzanita. However, the food was ridiculously sub-par, especially considering that the vibe is authentically decent. We ordered a simple wet burrito to split but asked for no dairy such as cheese or sour cream along with a side of guacamole. Our server warned us that the food was mostly made in lard. While that was very nice her to warn us, we hastily had to modify our order so that some items would be on the side, since my significant other wasn't crazy about the lard. What did we get? A super "slapped together" burrito in Mission brand tortillas you can find at a grocery outlet, no guacamole inside and the wrap job was worse than what a one-handed person can do on their best day. We immediately felt like the cook was annoyed with this order and quickly put a platter together for us. On top of all that; the side of guacamole was nothing short of bland. Still though, we powered on. What was the damage for all this? $26. $7 for a super small side of guacamole? $15 for a burrito? $4 for a sparkling mineral water? Yeah, this place is a ripoff. Never again. The only reason why I'm leaving 2 stars is because our server (who we generously tipped) was super sweet and attentive. Other than that, I hope the owners see that the quality of their food isn't what it's hyped up to be, especially for the price. read more

The food was substandard: the salsa watery and sweet(???), the fajita plate had a table spoon of guacamole and some alibi clippings of lettuce, maybe they were running out of stuff. Refills took forever. Ambience is ok, colorful paintings on the wall but the rest looks like a dying strip mall office. They had vegan options. You've got to try a margarita. It was huckleberry and it was outstanding. We enjoyed the vibrance of the decor and it was walking distance to the beach. Asked to replace the chips ---server never came back...had to ask another ser server and took forever. Server never asked how things were. Wont be going there again! First review for me ever, for anywhere. My first bite told me that the oil was rancid, which permeated everything. My friend had a different entree but had the same experience. Also, we were both charged double tip. We each gave 20% but when we saw our credit card purchases, the tip had been added twice, so we actually tipped 40%. I called the restaurant owner to let them know about both issues and have received no response. So, my recommendation is that you skip this place. We were lucky enough to get a table for 6 at Trio Loco on an amazingly good weather day in February, and a Saturday! Seems like Manzanita was not prepared for the huge number of people that flocked to their beach that weekend but Trio was open, one of only a couple places during the lunch hours that day. I think the staff did a great job keeping up with the huge number of people that wanted service, they were nice and efficient. Was it perhaps a slower service time, sure, but they were very nice about everything and the food was hot and drinks were cold. I had the pork enchiladas and my husband had the carne asada burrito. The serving sizes here are HUGE! I'm not sure anyone in our party was able to clear their plate. The enchiladas had a very generous amount of protein and sauce was good. The burrito looked good as well, but I didn't try it. If we return to Manzanita, I would give them our business again. read more
