I would not recommend Standard Group to anyone. This is, without question, the worst landscaping company I have ever dealt with. We were charged approximately $35,000 to landscape our front and backyard, and we were promised high-quality materials, including large 50-gallon plants and flowers. Instead, they installed the smallest five-gallon plants they could find. The grass was also the cheapest quality, was poorly leveled, and started dying almost immediately. We wanted privacy trees installed along one side of our brick wall. Standard Group recommended ficus trees and planted them only three feet from our pool because that was the only space available. We later learned that ficus trees should be planted at least 10 feet away from a pool structure. Because of their poor recommendation and installation, we had to hire another landscaping company to remove and replant all of the trees, costing us thousands more. We also asked for flowers and plants in a large area, but instead, Standard Group simply covered it with approximately two inches of wood chips. The wood chips covered our sprinkler heads and drainage areas, and their work resulted in broken pipes. We were charged $4k for landscape lighting, only to discover later that they used the cheapest lights available and charged us far more than the installation was worth. We also paid $800 for a Meyer lemon tree that we never received. After repeatedly contacting the owner Dave and expressing my frustration, I finally received a tree months later - but it was a standard lemon tree, not the Meyer lemon tree we paid for. This entire experience was an absolute nightmare and felt like a complete rip-off. Standard Group charged us thousands of dollars while cutting corners everywhere, using the smallest plants and cheapest materials possible, and failing to deliver what was promised. Before hiring this company, read the one-star reviews carefully. Many customers describe similar experiences. Based on what happened to us, be extremely cautious and do not use Standard Group. WARNING: Poor quality and ongoing issues: We hired this company in November for a full landscape project that included a waterfall feature, pond, irrigation, hardscape, uplights/lighting, 40 trees and 40 misc plants. MORE THAN SEVEN MONTHS LATER the work is still not complete and the issues continue. The waterfall has leaked from the beginning, the pond still loses water, and the irrigation system is unreliable. Multiple trees, shrubs, and plants are dying, including dozens of recently installed evergreens that are not growing as promised. Continuous hand watering and constant upkeep required to try and save the yard because of the issues left unresolved or quality of the initial installs. Many of these plants do not appear well-suited for the climate. Even with a mild winter, they required tying for support, and many are now sagging, leaning, or failing to establish. This reflects a lack of understanding about what actually works in this environment. Irrigation pipes have leaked underground for months, contributing to irrigation failures and extremely high water bills. Despite our repeated efforts to get this resolved, the problems persist. The third pipe busted today. There are concerns of what we can't see with water underneath the house. The project was not delivered as it was sold to us, leaving us with sacrifices, unexpected expenses, and constant disruption. We have given up much of our winter, spring, and now the start of summer just trying to fix, babysit, or mitigate further damage to the property. One major issue was a mudslide caused by their failure to remove excess dirt after digging out the pond. The mud filled the waterfall and basin, requiring a major cleanup that we had to handle ourselves before they eventually came to clear it. To date, there is still an issue with mud leeching into the waterfall when irrigating. Our concerns and suggestions were repeatedly ignored until the exact problems we warned about happened. Communication has been difficult due to language barriers, and we have experienced evasive or misleading behavior from both sales and ownership. Several requests to speak with the owners have never been acknowledged. There is a clear lack of expertise in water feature design, irrigation planning, plant selection, and working with the local environment. Pricing is extremely high for the quality delivered. Most disappointing of all, we had planned a wedding on the property and had to cancel the entire event because the landscape was not finished (could not be completed with the problems or not presentable. Despite every effort to work with them in good faith, we are still without resolution and continue to uncover new problems. I started with SDG on a very high note. I was introduced to their, so called best designer, Chris. He talked the talk and gave a proposal. He asked for a copy of our deposit check, but without telling us, somehow, managed to cash the check even though it was just a picture. Thereafter, he gave us some bogus drawings and we hen it came to delivery, they brought a bunch of tiny plants, basically 1 gallon vs. the 5 or 10 gallons. The made a disaster of our backyard. The charged us 40K for a work that was no more than 10K. Honestly, avoid working with them. I'm not sure if they even are even licensed. Terrible, miserable experience. I pray you tint fall victim to them, especially their "number one Chris" Thank you. read more
