My husband and I came here for date night. We started our evening with the bacon wrapped dates which were amazing and an excellent choice as we saw multiple tables order these for a starter. It was my own fault because I must have been feeling *fancy* or something and decided to try something completely different than food I would typically order for myself. I ordered the tempura avocado wraps which sounded & looked amazing. I took a couple bites and the first bite was amazing. The second bite I got some of the sauce they put on the wraps and while the wraps were good in general, the sauce on them was WAY too spicy for me. This kinda blew my mind because I like spicy & can typically handle spicy, but for some reason I couldn't handle this spice level and couldn't continue to eat my wraps because there was too much sauce to try to take off to be able to eat and enjoy the wraps. This is nothing against the wraps since I'm sure others have eaten & enjoyed them, but these were just not a good choice for me (personally) but now I know for next time and can either order something different or try them again but without the sauce. However, my husband ordered the drunken pig burger which I tried and his burger was absolutely delicious! The service here is AWFUL! They got ALL of our order wrong. We ordered a cheeseburger plain, they bring out a burger with no cheese. We return it, now they add cheese and come back with barbecue sauce on the bun, with the same patty. Now the meat is super dry and filled with bbq sauce that NOBODY asked for. My margarita tasted terribly sour, I complained and they said their margaritas are PRE-MADE. What? At a cocktail place? So gross. We asked for a strawberry lemonade, and they bring regular. We complained, and they came back with strawberry lemonade in a kid cup. What's that about? Our server had nasty attitude like she didn't want to be there. Didn't get her name. Never again! A friend and I use to go every Wednesday after work but then they moved the happy hour times up from 6pm to 5pm which doesn't make any sense since most people get off at 5pm and the service as decline at the bar. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Horrible service, ambience and food. Although there were well over 8 tables empty in the front of the restaurant, the immature and rude hostess sat us in the back corner of the restaurant. We requested to move and she moved us with the worst attitude. We waited well over ten minutes to even be acknowledged by the waiter. There was no greeting or anything just asked what we wanted to order. Took another 30 minutes to get our food. The food was tasteless and greasy. They didn't even provide utensils and napkins and when we asked they brought over one fork and a few napkins for 3 of us. Were we supposed to share a fork?! One of us got up and got our own napkins and utensils. The waitresses were too busy gossiping and hanging out by the bar ignoring customers. The hostess' were busy gossiping at the front. Cannot say enough good things about this bar, been here a few times. Parking is kind if a hassle, nothing right outside, and the lots get full, but it's worth the small walk, food is great as well. Fun atmosphere and great place for a date night. Would highly recommend and also return. read more

We had a mixed experience at our dinner last night. We had a reservation and were seated quickly on the patio. The patio was cool, quiet and a lovely place to relax. Our server came by about ten minutes later to take our drink and appetizer order. Our apps came out about ten minutes later before we got our drinks. The poutine was amazing and the Brussels sprouts were very good. We eventually got our drinks. Our server took our dinner order after we were completely finished with the apps which felt like very weird timing. We then got our mains about fifteen minutes later. The wedge salad was good but needed more dressing. The pork chops were very good. The meatballs were tasty but only came with two small pieces of bread which felt inadequate. We also ordered the steak sandwich with no horseradish sauce but when it came out the sauce was on it. Our server took it back, brought out another about ten minutes later and then comped it off the bill which was very kind. I think the most disappointing part of the meal was that we were celebrating a birthday (and had indicated that on the reservation). Oh my my my Noms Galore! When we got there it was a little busy but we were able to be seated outside. It was a beautiful day so that was more than OK with us. Despite it being a busy day, the noise level was perfect and I was able to hear my partner. And we enjoyed our lunch very much. The business was very clean and I even ran into the manager washing her hands and helping stock paper towels. Kudos to her! I was not a fan of the bacon wrapped dates. This is some thing I normally like but it was way too sweet for me. Now the lobster mac & cheese was heavily raved about. And he said he was not disappointed in every bite. I always have a really satisfying foodie experience here. I came on a Thursday afternoon for happy hour to celebrate with my cousin and kids. Service was average for the time of day and capacity. There were at least 2 servers tending to our table, which made for a good experience. To start, we had Poutine Fries and Brussel Sprouts with Goat Cheese. I've had the Brussel sprouts before and every time they are so delicious and good. The crisp on the sprouts and the creaminess of the goat cheese is heavenly. It was my first time trying the poutine fries and I would definitely come back and try these. They are served with a thick melty layer of cheese, topped with a generous amount of roasted shredded beef with their house french fries on the bottom, soaked with the flavorful juices of the meat. This was such a hit, my 1 year old wanted as much as he could handle. The State makes amazing gourmet burgers and it being happy hour and all, my cousin and I both opted for their BBQ Bacon Burger, which is as classic and satisfying as you'd expect, with a side salad and house dressing. I really enjoy the house salad dressing. To wash down all of this savory and satisfying meal, I opted for the Aperol Spritz. The State is obviously known for their selection and quality of drinks and this was the perfect drink to enjoy on their patio. I don't think I've ever had a drink with Gin, let alone an Aperol Spritz, so it was pleasantly surprising to try something new and actually enjoy it. Definitely loved the interior of The State. Highly recommend reservation as they get busy for dinner time slot. My fiance took me here on my birthday and we celebrated with ribeye and lobster mac and cheese. Staff was super nice and we got seated at the booth. They have decent selection of beers to pick from but its more geared towards cocktail and whiskey. They have a speak easy part behind the restaurant. Which I have yet to try but I kinda dislike that they dont let you take pictures inside. Our steak was good and since I dont eat too much we shared ribeye and lobster man and cheese. Got our steak with fries and lobster mac and cheese was good first couple bites but it got greasy a bit. They have good selection of good whiskey behind the check in counter. We ordered the spinach artichoke sandwiches, one we added chicken and the other without. The one with chicken was a bit on the dry side, but the other was good by itself. We requested thousand island for the onion rings and we dipped the sandwich in it it made it so delicious. The fries were perfectly good with the ranch. We were a large party for a friend's birthday and decided to get the bottles of Champagne instead of the glasses of mimosas. Our server didn't bring all the juices needed and over all had a very bad attitude while we were there. She walked away mid sentence while we were ordering and rolled her eyes at one point in time. I personally talked to the manager and told her about the service we received and was told she would talk to her about it. Everyone in my group felt the negative energy she gave and noticed the attitude as well. We decided to try this place for lunch since it wasn't busy. We were seated right away, which was great. The interior looked really nice, but since it was such a pleasant day, we decided to eat on the patio instead. There was only one other party eating outside, and they looked like they were just finishing up. After we were seated, we waited about 15 minutes without being acknowledged. I ended up going inside to ask if anyone knew who our server was. They weren't sure, but said they'd send someone over. Our server, Felicia, eventually came by, and we were ready to order. I mentioned it was our first time there and asked what my dish came with. Felicia gave us the information, but she seemed a bit distant and not very enthusiastic. She took our food order for our party of three but didn't ask what we wanted to drink. We didn't see her again until about 20 minutes later when our food finally arrived. I was surprised it took that long, especially since the restaurant wasn't busy at all. On my way to the restroom, I noticed several servers chatting near the front. As I walked back to my table, I saw the food being brought out right behind me. I mentioned to Felicia that she hadn't taken our drink order, and her reaction made it seem like I had inconvenienced her. Someone else ended up bringing the drinks a little later. Unfortunately, my dish was undercooked and cold in some area maybe becauseit was sitting to long to be brought out (except for the salad). Out of the three meals, only one was really enjoyable. I asked to speak with the manager, who was understanding and removed my meal from the bill. At that point, I didn't ask for a replacement since the others were almost done eating, and it didn't feel worth the wait. It was perfect. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their food. There was a faulty order of mashed potatoes, but they were replaced with another order of mashed potatoes that were much better. Mistakes happen. I tried the shrimp tacos. They were small but yummy! I also had the fried oysters. I've never had oysters before bc I don't like the consistency. These were amazing!! I also tried the mac and cheese, of course it wasn't baked but it had a good flavor and it was pretty cheesy. I'm saving the best for last, which was our server, Tyler! He was super nice, accommodating and understanding. The best! Then, there's the ambience. Wow! I love that the front of the restaurant is open allowing guests to walk through, no door necessary. I've been coming here for years. The poutine is always amazing and all the other appetizers. My go to is the spicy fried chicken sandwich and my fiancés is the meatballs with extra bread cause they don't give enough. I could've sworn I had the smash burger here before but when I ordered it this time I was a little confused. There was nothing smash about these patties as they were much more than a quarter inch thick. The onions and bacon on it were delicious, but then I asked for extra 1000 island. There were no pickle chunks in it and was more of just mayo and ketchup with some paprika. Also, the onion rings were heavily breaded so if you're into that, cool. My fiancé got the spinach artichoke grilled cheese with chicken and while delicious, very messy and hard to eat. It comes with potato chips and they aren't cooked evenly in my opinion.
