I loved the original Station from way way back when it was owned by Fred (if you know you know), and have always wanted something better to succeed it since each new incarnation comes up short. The good news is the new space is set up well, optimizing the inside for food prep and the outside for eating. It's a great space in a great location. It'll be successful just for that. The bad news is that my impossible burger was just a giant inedible salt bomb - like bad enough I don't think I'd bother again. I always love coming here for a guilty pleasure. The back alley burger is so cheesy and delicious and always comes out piping hot. The fry sauce adds some heat which is nice. Their fries are always so warm and crispy and perfectly salted. Their cookies and cream milkshake is so so delicious and is something I get every time. I've also tried their chocolate dipped ice cream which was so good and the perfect way to end such a good meal! read more

We were big fans of Back Alley Burger, back in the day. Always hoped they'd return! Station's food is fantastic. We got the original and the impossible burger and fries. A little less salty than Back Alley was, which is great. All the seating is outside, but most of it is covered and there are space heaters. We went around 6pm on a Saturday and waited about 10 minutes. Food was out pretty fast, and staff were friendly. FYI The Station is not dog friendly. There was a big "no dogs" sign that we somehow did not see until we were leaving. read more

This is a casual spot - you order up front. Parking is quite limited in the lot but you can easily find free street parking around it. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Weekend burgers at Pizzaiolo were a high point of my week for several summers in a row -- and I know many other people who felt the same way. The food, the low prices, the vibe, the community, it was all just unbeatable as a way to bring a smile to your face. When that closed down it was devastating; little did I know it was returning in a dedicated location. Let's get down to it: the burger and fries are unreal. These are maybe the best, most dialed-in smashburgers on Earth. That's really what you have to know. The staples are on point. Chicken sandwich: eh, it's okay. Not bad, not great. Cucumber salad with feta: tasty, not sure I'd order it again solo, but would happily share one with a friend. Shakes: excellent. Only one complaint: they've succumbed to shrinkflation. The prices have stayed low on paper, but a double burger here is equivalent in size to what a single burger used to be at Pizzaiolo. I would recommend ordering the double, otherwise I think you're likely to leave hungry. Orders of fries should also be 50% bigger. Charlie if you're reading this, I love you, but boost the fries! FIREEEE! Okay so burgers were smashed sooo good basically as flat as (unfortunately for me) my buttocks, but good for you because they were so yummy and crispy on edge!! Fries were skintyyyy and good crunch so yummy and perf salt levels vibe was sooo cute, workers were so friendly as well, we got a cookies and cream milkshake and it was also so good, then we stumbled upon an extra dollar somehow to get a choco covered ice cream cone because burgers and shakey weren't enough obviously, choco dip cone is a MUST and I'm someone who doesn't care much for plain vanilla ice cream but the soft serve was such good flavor and consistency and the choco shell made it so fire with a crunch. Delicious everything! We had an amazing chicken burger, regular burger, & the best kale salad ever. It was all delicious!

We arrived about 7:00 Sunday night. Line not bad parking nearby ( many people walk there), line was quick, service friendly. I think the menu has just enough choices for a bustling place. Only cheese for sandwiches is American, not a fan , requested the only other cheese on the menu, French feta, which we LOVE, and they happily offered it on the side. Received a generous portion too for the double Original burger. Which was delicious. The fried chicken sandwich was juicy, and the toppings were fresh and very tasty. Buns are super fresh. Dining area is kept clean including the self service area for ice cold water and ketchup next to the 3 barrels for trash and recycling. Staff appears to be on top of everything which is so important for a busy place with outdoor seating. We live in Oakland but we don't mind going the extra mile for places like this that also go the extra mile for their customers. Oh and the prices are great too. Ordered the Back Alley double and Saigon chicken also a double plus fries and strawberry and chocolate shakes. The Back alley burger had carmelized grilled onions and the pickles gave it an extra zing. The Saigon chicken burger was unexpected sighting on the menu but was my favorite! The daikon carrot slaw enhanced the chicken patties. Both burgers had a soft brioche bun that helped soak up the juices. Strawberry shake was the favorite versus the chocolate. Not bad but not great. I had a single patty burger which wasn't much beef (it seemed less than a quarter pound) and the burger in general was on the small side. The portion of fries seemed a bit skimpy too and they were probably factory made. Even though it was the first day (and fairly busy), the line moved efficiently and it only took about 5 minutes to prepare the food. We're avid customers of Pizzaiolo so we were overjoyed to see they opened a permanent location for their backyalley burgers. We lived next to Pizzaiolo for 3 years and it will always be our favorite restaurant in the bay. I'm happy to say the Station met our very high expectations :) The line was long but we had no problem waiting since I was so happy to see so much support! The staff were very friendly and I felt the prices were reasonable. We got our drinks and ice cream immediately, and waited about 10 mins for 2 burgers and fries. Yeay- glad to see someone else give this place a go. I have been coming to different incarnations for about 40 years always hoping someone will succeed. It is such a great location but it was mystifying how the last owners went overboard on flowers and big screen TV on the patio (not the reason people pick a place with outdoor seating!) instead of just focusing on improving the food. You should know that in the East Bay, people will show up to a hole in the wall or barren parking lot for tasty street fare. The positives- 1)extremely friendly servers. One woman at the counter was being very kind and patient with an older gentleman at the window and so another helper came out to take orders down the line. Everyone got a warm, attentive welcome and only had to stand for a couple of minutes to order 2)quick turnaround - I think my order was served in less than 5 minutes. I went back for a shake and that came in 2 minutes. That's a HUGE improvement over the older establishment. In the last couple of years I have come and it took about a half hour for a hot sandwich, even when the place had been practically empty. 3) cheery pink and blue umbrellas and clean, simplified patio space. It's better without all the crazy signs and extra planters and blaring TV 4) yummy impossible burger - I like American cheese and sauteed onions and pickles and special sauce kinda like siracha mayo or thousand island 5) streamlined menu - basically 3 burgers, 3 salads with a couple of add on options. *)Oh and soft serve and milkshakes. I had a chocolate shake and it tasted like real chocolate ice cream, not vanilla with hershey's syrup 6) price! Unusual to get an impossible burger that costs under $12. You can get a regular beef one for under 8, if you prefer. Suggestion- 1) offer lettuce wrap as an option That's it. I have no negatives. 4 stars instead of 5 just because it's basic. Honestly, it's really good. Was surprised to see it so empty, but we came hungry so it wasn't bad to get our food so fast. Smash Burger - solid flavor and juicy. House sauce was really good. The only thing I could say was that the "grilled onions" were a little too raw for me. I expected them to be a little more sautéed. But will definitely come back for the burgers. Fries - perfectly crispy and seasoned. They're not stingy on the serving. Milkshake - I never get milkshakes but the Matcha and Oreo milkshakes hit the spot.
