Curly Truffle with too much pink for me
    Julia E.

Actually surprised by the really high reviews. I got the curly truffle burger and my husband got the spicy one burger. We also ordered a large fry to share. The burgers themselves didn't have any flavor to them. My burger was pretty pink so I could only stomach half the burger. To be fair I did not request how well done I like my burgers. The fries were super good and really the only reason (besides the friendly staff) that Im giving this truck three stars. I probably will not be returning but maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea.

    Beer dinner. Shrimp and grits

I have only had the delicious higher end burgers from the Steer and Wheel. During Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, the Steer and Wheel catered the beer dinner that I attended at The Grist House. I thought the concept of a curated food truck beer dinner was innovative, so I had to check it out. (Besides the fact that I love beer dinners) Boy, did Steer and Wheel really crush it. I can't get over the Main course of Shrimp and Grits. Having lived in the south, I am always on a mission for great grits. And they hit the mark. The shrimp was not overly breaded and really complimented the cheesiness of the grits without being overbearing. All of the courses were done to perfection with flavors that were accentuated with the paired beers and vice versa. I like how The Steer and Wheel stepped out of the truck (See What I did there??) and left the bun behind.

I am a HUGE fan of this truck. For the longest time, it was like my White Whale; I saw it pop up on Twitter but could never find it in real life. I finally (!!) pinned it down at Coffee Buddha one day and have been hooked ever since. My mouth is watering just writing this! Sure, it's a little on the expensive side for a food truck, but you get quality and quantity, my friends. The menu is pretty big and they only have certain items on the truck, so be sure to follow them on Twitter to see what their offerings are. Even if you don't see your favorite, go eat there anyway. The burgers are fresh, always piled high with amazing toppings, and so juicy you will need to roll up your sleeves. Now let's talk about the fries. You get a ton of fresh-cut, warm, salty fries. I'd liken these to Winghart's and are currently tied for "most favorite fries in Pittsburgh." I'd go for The French Lieutenant's Burger and Curly's Truffle but they usually have a special Buddha Burger when they're parked at Coffee Buddha. Go. Run. Now!

I have been wanting a burger for a long time. You know, a really good burger that I could tell all of my friends about. Well, I found it! The Steer and Wheel guys nailed it with their food truck fare. They had a truck at Grist House so I decided to try them out. WOW! I had "The Spicy One". A thick, juicy burger with lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, ghost pepper cheese and a jalapeno ranch. Not a fan of any condiment in the creamy variety, I had it made without the sauce. In fact this burger was so good it required no condiments at all. Hands down one of the tastiest burgers I've ever had. Usually if we crave something and finally obtain it can be such a letdown. This was the furthest thing from that. Oh and I almost forgot, the fries were perfection. My boyfriend had the pimento cheeseburger and his review mirrors the one I've just written. Thank you to the folks at The Steer and Wheel who create food truck realness!!

Pimento burger with a side of fries and Grist House porter. Awesome.

We sat for a long time actually waiting for a server to come speak with us and get our drink order. So long, despite not being a full place, that I told my wife I wanted to get up and leave. I was very, very frustrated. I had been glancing at their menu on Yelp and saw some tacos that I wanted to try, unfortunately the restaurant cut their menu back to only five tacos to choose from. I'm guessing to simplify things for the Draft crowd that they anticipated coming. Our server finally came to take our drink order and after so long we knew what we wanted. The server wasn't exactly friendly or attentive. We started with street corn as an appetizer, it was awesome. My wife had the chicken tacos and didn't like them. She said they were mushy and had an off flavor that she didn't enjoy. I had the birria tacos. They were not bad, they didn't come with any sauce/juice as all the other birria tacos I've ever had typically come with. I have to say, I was disappointed in the menu being reduced and other than the street corn app., just wasn't impressed. The service was not good, my wife's taco were bad and my were okay. I'll not be rushing back unfortunately.

Our neighborhood had…read moresigned up a number of food trucks to come on Thursdays and this Thursday happened to be The Mac and Gold Truck. Since it's a food truck, there's not too much to say about it other than it's a nice yellow color that reminds you of cheese. For dinner on this day I decided to go with the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese while my wife went with the lobster Mac and cheese. There was maybe a 5 minute wait between ordering and our food being ready and afterwards we headed back to our house to eat. My buffalo Mac and cheese ended up being quite good as both the buffalo chicken and blue cheese added great flavor to the dish. However, as it should be, the Mac and cheese was the star. The pasta itself was cooked nicely and the cheese sauce had a great flavor to it. There was an ample amount of it too and which means that I was able to enjoy Each and every piece of pasta. My wife really enjoyed hers too and we were both pleased that the lobster wasn't exorbitantly priced. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our Mac and cheese and I would be interested in trying more of their flavors.

My wife and I ordered the Big Cheese and the Big Tex and a side of fries. The Big cheese was a little underwhelming in that the Mac and cheese was pretty standard and overcooked, there weren't many jalapeños slices, and the hot dog is just boiled and plain. The Big Tex was also just a boiled dog (no grilling here), but came with more peppers, onions, cheese and had a smoky sauce drizzled on it that was nice. The fries were thick cut and crispy and seasoned with more than just salt so those were nice too. Overall meal was about $17 before tip which isn't too bad but seems a little steep--I take comfort in knowing that it's at least for a good cause.

This food truck is more of a trailer that is towed on the back of the truck and on the day we were there they had 2 people working it. They were slammed and so there was the game of trying to keep up with orders without taking too many. Their menu says proceeds are for the light of life rescue mission which is nice. For dinner on this day I decided to order a number of items to split with my wife and so went for the big tex as well as a southern belle, fresh cut fries with cheese and a Mac and cheese with bacon. The hot dog selection was the toughest choice for me as I was between the chili chaloochi and the big tex before the amount of good sounding items on the big Tex won out. It was described as a hot dog with grilled onions, sweet peppers and jalepenos with Cajun seasoning and also topped with tomatoes, shredded cheddar and cowboy mayo and the southern belle was described as their spicy chicken selection with fried chicken strips, pickles and chipotle sauce served in their signature grilled hot dog bun. After about a 15 minute wait or so, our food was ready and I was headed home. Whenever I got home the first thing I noticed was that they had forgotten my bacon on the Mac and cheese and cheese on the fries which was disappointing since I had paid for both. At that point I was not expecting to give them anything higher than a 3 star review. In any case, I first started with the big Tex and I have to admit that I loved it! The grilled onions, sweet peppers and jalepenos all added some nice flavor to it and the deep fried hot dog was delicious. It was definitely the best hot dog I have had in a long time and I didn't feel bad spending the $7 on it. After that I tried the southern belle. It was on the same buttered bun which the hot dog was on which was tasty. The chicken itself had a nice golden color to it and tasted good enough and I enjoyed the chipotle sauce. I only wish that it had more spice for something that was called spicy. With both of my entrees complete I was able to try both of the sides. I started with the fries which you could tell were freshly cut. They were well seasoned and both my wife and I enjoyed them. Last but certainly not least was the mac and cheese which was a creamy Mac and cheese. It was a decent Mac and cheese but nothing to tell my friends about. The bottom line for me is that I would head back to the rescue dogs food truck again in the future. I really enjoyed my hot dog and would be interested in trying their signature chili chaloochi.
