Parmesan crusted chicken salad
Lynn K.

Went with a group for dinner on Saturday. A couple of people in our party started with ordering the old-fashioned. Both felt that it was not a well-mixed cocktail, possibly missing the simple syrup or sugar. Our group ordered chicken marsala, Parmesan crusted chicken salad, roasted beet salad, chicken & broccoli fettuccine Alfredo and pappardelle with chicken. The food arrived quickly and presentation was good. However, all of our dishes seemed to be under seasoned and rather bland. Breadsticks or pretzel breadsticks served along with the meals were cold. Just not great overall.

This was our first visit to The Stone Cellar and it couldn't have been better! From our attentive waitress to the delicious meal, everything was spot on. When I wasn't sure what to order, our waitress made a great recommendation. Dessert was absolutely phenomenal too! We'll definitely be returning.

My husband and I decided to try a little more upscale restaurant , so we chose the Stone cellar! I'm so glad we did. First of all the building inside is absolutely stunning. My waitress was on point, she did a great job. The food oh my lanta, we ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls which was one of the best things I've ever eaten! I chose the crab cakes ( was just a smidge burned to my liking but still absolutely delicious) the big lumps of crab is so beyond appreciated. My husband did the NY steak and it was a beautiful cut and made exactly how he likes it. The place is pricey for the town but it's honestly a place I WILL be returning too. I just hope they have the pork chops they had offered online those looked banging! Until next time stone cellar keep making beautiful food!

We were visiting Altoona from out of town and searched Yelp for the highest rated restaurants. The Stone Cellar popped up so we figured we'd give it a try. We were very happy with our experience. We called to make reservations earlier in the afternoon, day of. They were able to accommodate us. The restaurant is inside of an apartment complex, so we got a bit misplaced trying to find it, but once we did everything was great. The restaurant's atmosphere was cute, cozy, and it was clean! The waitress, Chelsea, was very sweet and was able to answer our questions about the menu items and offer her suggestions, which were on point! We started with a caprese appetizer, which was just a perfect size to share, not to big to ruin our appetite for our meals. It was very tasty and included some pesto sauce which I enjoyed! I got the caprese chicken, which was so delicious! It was tasty and nicely seasoned and had a good amount of sauce and cheese. I enjoyed that it included prosciutto! The side of green beans and potatoes are worth a mention, too! So yummy! My boyfriend really enjoyed his meal as well, chicken piccata. It was a special occasion, so we treated ourselves to dessert. We had to get the banana dumplings because that isn't something we see often on menus. They were better than we had even hoped they would be! My boyfriend and I would both enthusiastically recommend this restaurant to anyone. Everything from the atmosphere, service, food, and the overall experience was great! If we ever find ourselves in Altoona again, this will be our first stop!

Food, service and ambiance were impeccable! I went for my birthday and was not disappointed for my first time! I was very satisfied and impressed.

Overall I liked this place. Couple of tips if you're making the trip: Entrance is in the 'Shoppe Entrance' - and bear to the left. This place had a Tuscan vibe to it - Italian artisan walls with ceiling paintings and frescoes everywhere. Seemed higher class but there wasn't a dress code. We didn't have a reservation and were immediately sat in the large room where bar is located. Ordered the potstickers to start as well as a mixed drink. I will say the mixed drink had a very light pour to it - so much that I had a second when normally I just have one. Potstickers we're good - would get those again and recommend ordering. For my meal I ordered the pappardelle pasta and added chicken. I thought it was good though the sauce was on the runny side and even though this is a thin sauce dish I would recommend cooking the pasta with the sauce for a few before plating. Had the cheesecake which was good but you can see was undercooked - as it was pudding like near crust. Overall - I liked this - would have liked to a have a few more menu options but what we chose I was happy with.

The Stone Cellar was a very unique dining experience. The ambiance was very pretty with a facade. The staff was super friendly and our waitress was prompt and courteous. I got the roasted quinoa vegetable bowl with scallops - which I thought was a unique protein to add to a salad. They were delicious, as well as the whole salad! My fiancé got the pistachio crusted salmon, which came with a rice pilaf and the vegetable of the day. The pistachio crust really stole the show - it had a cherry-like flavor to it, which made it both sweet & tart! The salmon's was cooked well and wasn't overdone. Overall, we would definitely come back again and try some more of their dishes.

We chose to eat outside in their beautiful garden, which made for the perfect setting. I ordered the Hawaiian-style poke bowl, and it was absolutely delicious! The portion was very generous, with plenty of fresh ahi tuna. One of the highlights of our visit was meeting a brother and sister who were also traveling from out of town. We ended up sharing a table and great conversation, which made the experience even more memorable. The service was excellent. We asked our server for a recommendation, and he suggested the poke bowl--and I'm so glad he did! Everyone in our group loved their meal. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely return. I highly recommend The Knickerbocker!

But we decided to not spend more time for finding something else and stepped in. It was very charming, surprisingly well kept,of course old,but in a good way. Menu was intriguing, modern and seasonal, which I value the most. Waiter was engaging in our menu exploration and was knowledgeable. Now to the food.. cauliflower appetizer made as General Tso was one other best cauliflower in my entire life. Lightly fried, not mushy, but with exact chicken like texture in divine sauce, kicking spicy with sweet undertones. In the same way not overpowering to forget about cauliflower itself. A+ for that dish!!! Pirogi was a little doughy on my opinion, but taste was good. Asian bowl with salmon had great flavor profile: cabbage salad was beautiful and freshly crisp, carrots were marinated perfectly with slight vinegary flavors, bok choy was unbelievably delicious. I asked for medium salmon, mine was almost well done, but taste was good and rice in the middle wasn't sticky and flavorful, but had watery texture and was bland. Overall, this is an amazing festival of flavors and technically challenging menu. Bravo!!!

I asked for mayo which helped the sandwich. The onion rings were the best I had in a long time-yes, I ate them all. The service was great. Who I think mixed the drinks checked on me- that was nice. It was a good restaurant to stop at when in the area.
