Had a great dinner with the family at the Strand House. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated at a table with a beautiful ocean view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was a little overcast so we didn't see a sunset today. Our server Mark was great and explained the menu and popular dishes. We started off with crab cakes and had the branzino, sea scallops and lam chops for the main course. My daughter had grilled chicken and french fries. BTW, the french fries were delicious! We all enjoyed our meals. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked at medium-rare but a little under seasoned. They brought me a salt and pepper mill to season the chops. I was a little surprised that they were under seasoned. I asked for iced tea refills and they were obliging. The meal was moderately priced but for the ambiance and good quality, it was worth it. The service was spot on with plenty of staff attending to our needs. The most challenging part of our experience was finding parking. There's plenty of metered street parking and limited parking lots near the Manhattan Beach pier. read more

The food was very bland whether it was the salmon, ribs or pasta. Decent presentation I'll give them that much but they really need to work on taste. The tuna tar tar was the best thing they had. The prices were very expensive for what you got. Lastly, the waiters need to work on their attitude. She did try to pretend like she was nice but you could tell she just wanted us to leave which got very annoying. This place has a gorgeous view of the ocean, so definitely one star for that. Service was excellent. Food overall was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, except for one dish. It wasn't bad, necessarily -- the watermelon and feta salad was nothing like we had expected. I thought maybe it would have some greens with cubes of watermelon and feta. What we got were big chunks of watermelon with a little feta and a sprig or two of greens on top. I think it had olive oil drizzled on the plate. Again, it tasted fine, but visually it wasn't what we expected, especially at that price point. Parking was not the best, even for a Tuesday evening, but we did find a spot in a public lot. Food was great overall! We started with a potato frites in beef tallow and fresh oysters (regulate not minuette) we loved the fries!!! Best!!! Then our food was served 20 minutes after we seated: I had the branzino which was a Ok I've tasted better. My son had the Chilean seabass which he did not like the potatoes and k my age the fish. My son's gf had the ceviche she compared it with the local market made and said she liked the local better than what she had. Drinks were good. Reservation was at 5pm, they seated us on time. However if felt like we did not have a choice but to be seated in the patio area which got really cold & windy, out table was wobbling though they put shoppers on it still felt wobbly. It wasn't the best area to dine in. It felt like they just shoved us in there and did not even ask if we were ok with our table being out in the patio. I preferred to be inside the dining area because it looks more peaceful, comfortable and enjoyable. Overall ambience is nice, bright and airy. The patio is too tight and the guy behind me keeps hitting my chair. We dine in quick because I wasn't liking the area where we were. They could've offered us a better space. Love this place. I've had dinner here multiple times over the years. The other night I was here with a group from work and as always, the food was great. The staff was attentive and accommodating to our table request with us needing a heat lamp since we were outside on the patio. We split the octopus appetizer, I had the scallops and pesto pasta, and we split the key lime dessert. One thing: [[HIGHLIGHT]]while the views are great and the place is as close to the water as you can get[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], parking sucks. Location: this place doesn't get any better. Literally steps from the MB pier and the strand boardwalk. Watch the sunset after you order and are waiting for your food. Parking: Good luck! Think Times Square type vibe. There paid beach parking that's usually full, street meters also usually full and nearby parking paid, also usually full. It's hit or miss and more miss than hit! Save yourself the stress and walk there, take public transport or uber/lyft. Views: 5 for view if you can snag an up or downstairs window seat, you can see the beach, and pier but not the sunset. You gotta walk down to the beach for that. Food: 4-5 for food. The Brussels sprouts are good and a tad soggy, the French fries are a 5, the bread rolls with butter are a 5. We went for a ladies brunch on a Saturday. Good thing we made a reservation and we were seated quickly. Ambience: (5/5) The view from upstairs is unbeatable. You could see the ocean and the pier while we ate. The dining room felt bright and open, and it made the whole brunch feel special. Food: (4/5) We ordered the chile relleno burrito, which our waiter recommended. It was huge and very tasty, with plenty to eat. We also tried the watermelon appetizer, and honestly it was not that good. It was just cubes of watermelon topped with feta, and the cheese was way too salty for our taste. Stopped by for dinner and drinks with my hubby and a friend this place is definitely a vibe and super close to the ocean. Best time to go is for happy hour before sunset. Our reservation wasn't until 8:30, so we hung out downstairs for about an hour first. Met a lot of people who were clearly locals and regulars, which always says a lot about a spot. Once we sat down for dinner, we ordered a few things. The bluefin tostadas are a must if you're into seafood. We also had the scallops delicious doesn't even do them justice, just wish there was more than one . My hubby ordered the lamb, which was probably our least favorite since it was a bit dry. The rigatoni though? Unbelievably good. Honestly, I'd come back and order the exact same items minus the lamb lol. Shoutout to Griffin for keeping us going all night . And the buttermilk bread? My friend's lamb chops were more rare than she'd like so she sent them to get cooked up, but they returned almost well done. I tasted my other friend's sea bass, which did not impress me. I liked my main, which was the Wanderer Farm New York Strip with miso potato mille fuille and truffled parsnips. Loved the chimichurri on top. Out of the brussels & bacon, truffled potato gratin and Brentwood farms street corn, which were all delicious, my favorite side was the Brussels sprouts. For dessert, the donut flight is a must try. I don't eat chocolate so I liked 4 out of the 5 donuts. I also mixed a scoop of the mango/pineapple/coconut sorbet with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream in the waffle cup which was soooo good and refreshing. We were seated at a table right against the window with a prime ocean view. Our server, while pleasant, left us alone for long periods of time. Because he seemed to have forgotten about us, we weren't able to order for quite some time and thus received our food over an hour after arriving. We started with the crab cakes. Tasty, but not worth the cost. For my main I had the Parisian Ham and Cypress Grove Cheese Omelette. They knew what they were doing by putting Cypress Grove in the name, because I love that cheese and knew I had to order this. Food was good for the most part, we really liked one of the cheeses in the charcuterie board (saint nectaire) to the point where we went to the store to buy our own afterwards. The scallops for the pesto pasta were cooked perfectly, tender, no rubbery/fishiness, just a vibrant rich flavor. Young reception greeter was kinda snotty and called my name - I was standing right next to her and i obviously heard her but because we didn't jump to follow her up the stairs she snapped my name again. The crab cakes were good like other reviews stated. Steak was good. Potatoes meh. Cinnamon roll was $17 and quite large but not cinnamony nor moist. Even tho cocktails were $20 each or more and everyone ordered an appetizer and a main, we still didn't make the $75/person minimum. Overall ratings - 1/5 parking. 5/5 view for half the table. 5/5 for Nathan until the extra tip request. 3/5 for food. 1/5 for snappy, young female hostess who worked today. Don't plan to go back. We recently visited to celebrate our anniversary. While we were disappointed to find that some items listed on the website menu had been removed, we had an overall satisfying experience. Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we had a great experience! The view was amazing and the food definitely lived up to the hype. It can get pretty pricey depending on what you order, but everything we had was delicious. My sister and I just had lunch at The Strand House to celebrate her 50th birthday and wow, what a meal! Possibly the best crab cakes of our entire lives and the yellowtail crudo was the definition of a balanced and rich appetizer. Seriously, this is in our top 10 meals (maybe top 5) of all time. We had an incredible server in John. He was the perfect balance of attentiveness (yet not overbearing), knowledgeable, professional, yet he still made us feel like we were having a relaxed hangout out in his house as his friends. I've been a bartender at various bars and restaurants for the past 20 years and I gotta say that it was an honor to be helped by that caliber of a server. I also told him that I didn't love mushrooms so he had our entrée, which had mushrooms, split and my sister's half had mushrooms but mine didn't. They dont have artisan beer, and most are just branded names which I dislike. The wine selection is better with some good choices. The place is quite pricey for its atmosphere and view. An incredible dining spot right near the pier, with truly stunning ocean views, especially at sunset. The food was just as impressive as the setting. The fries are a must-try, perfectly crisp and flavorful. The ahi tuna salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, not overpowered by vinegar (as it usually happens) and the sea bass was cooked to perfection with lots of flavours. For dessert, the truffle hazelnut treat is an absolute standout, rich, indulgent, and reminiscent of a Ferrero Rocher. Parking in the area can be a bit challenging, with mostly metered spots nearby. Our only complaint is that when we asked about options for our two 10-year-olds, James said there was no kids' menu, which led us to order full-size entrées and spend about twice as much for portions that were far too big for them. Sat at the bar because when you're chasing sunsets, who thinks about making a reservation? No regrets--the ocean view from the bar was just as stunning, and the energy was perfect. The Mezlon and Berry mocktail were both refreshing and beautifully balanced. Dinner was a win too: the burrata and tomato salad hit all the right notes, and the pesto pasta with artichoke and scallops was creamy and full of flavor. Shoutout to our bartender, who had Spider-Girl reflexes--she literally caught a falling glass and saved the woman next to us from a splash zone moment.
