I really enjoyed the Mahi Mahi Bowl I ordered. The rice was cooked perfectly--firm and fluffy rather than overcooked and soggy, which I appreciated. The teriyaki sauce was a little sweeter than my personal preference, but it paired well with the mild flavor of the mahi mahi. The service was good, and the staff were pleasant and attentive. The only downsides were the parking situation and the noise level from other guests, which made the dining experience a bit less relaxing. Ok...so 4 years ago this was mine and my husbands absolute fave place. The food, the drinks, the service, the vibes. All were immaculate. We went here on Thursday and just nothing really hit the mark. The sprouts are overcooked, the calamari isn't as good as used to be, the Cesar salad dressing was bland and watery, the fries have changed and weren't as good, the fish and chips were over battered and the batter was like bready. A friend suggested this restaurant for a small group brunch. It is right on the Redondo Beach boardwalk. I thought parking would be a nightmare, but there are ample parking spots with inexpensive metered parking. We got a seat in a comfortable booth right by a large window overlooking the marina. I was not planning to have a cocktail but they had so many good choices, including a rum based guava and passion fruit cocktail that just felt right. I didn't even finish reading the menu when I saw the blackened scallop with mushroom risotto dish. The scallops were tender and well seasoned. The risotto was very creamy, cheesy and comforting but the seasoning was mostly truffle oil. I had one slice of fresh mushroom on my plate. It would have been a 10/10 if it had more mushrooms. Excellent food. Excellent service. Matt was tending bar tonight, and he was fast, friendly, efficient, and very helpful with the menu. Amber also helped acquaint customers with the new menu. I had the blackened Mahi sandwich, and it was one of the best I have had outside of Hawaii. We had a fabulous lunch here! We were in Redondo Beach for our daughter's wedding and they were having their after party here at R10 so we wanted to check it out in advance. Let's start with the housekeeping stuff. We got there when they first opened for lunch so it was not busy yet. The waterside view is lovely, plenty of paid parking available, very clean restrooms. Loved the large window booth in the bar area! Every staff member that crossed our path were friendly and genuinely seemed happy we were there. First our lunch review.The menu is extensive and everything that came out of the kitchen looked wonderful. We both ordered iced tea and shared a shrimp cocktail.Fresh shrimp tasty sauce. We both ordered the fresh catch sandwich. This is the best type of place to get fresh fish which was mahi mahi that day. The sandwich was so very tasty served on a fresh brioche bun with some excellent sauce as well. You have a choice of fries or a side salad so we got one of each. Yummy fries, so glad we only got one order or I would have eaten too much. The side salad was fresh and enough for two, not to mention the creamy delightful ranch dressing. We also ordered a crispy chicken salad to go for my mother-in-law. She loved her sandwich and said the coleslaw was the best. Now onto the after party experience. What a great time!!! The reservation was for the top floor bar area which included a dance floor and outside seating area. The bar area is gorgeous with lots of comfy seating. Outdoor seating was nice with heaters if needed. The bartender was wonderful and I can vouch for their dirty martinis as being just what an after party vibe needed. The bartenders were so friendly and even came by our table to see if we wanted another round, which of course we did! The food that was served buffet style was unreal. My first time here, and I have to say -- the location is absolutely beautiful. You really can't beat dining in the Redondo area with that coastal vibe and breezy view. I ordered a few simple things: the truffle fries, sangria, ceviche, and Brussels sprouts. I was honestly a little bummed because, as simple as these dishes are, they didn't quite deliver. The truffle fries were the first red flag -- visually unappealing, and the taste matched. I'm not sure if the oil was old or if they had been refried, but they had that heavy, oily flavor with a hard texture instead of being light and crispy. The chips were also stale. Even when I tried to return the fries, it turned into a bit of a hassle just to have them taken off the bill, which was disappointing given how beautiful and promising the spot is. Located by the Redondo beach pier it's a great spot by the water We had the Peruvian scallop appetizer which was refreshing and ohh soo fresh. We really enjoyed it. For my entree I go the Scallopapas, the scallops were cooked to perfection and the risotto was good. My hub got the crab stuffed salmon which he enjoyed so much. I have never seen this man devour a cooked salmon the way he did with this one. It was impressive. Kudos to the chefs back there. My kid got a grilled cheese which looked delicious and he enjoyed. Service was friendly and attentive, I always appreciate a place that accommodates and welcomes families. Our waiter was great I did not catch his name I just know he has a 9 month old daughter. I didn't take pics today 12/23/25 bc I was at the restaurant for a business lunch and the food was a buffet. December is generally a quiet time ar beach cities and Piers compared to the summer tourism and active locals season. I wasn't expecting much given everything noted above. Most people went back for seconds. First, the upstairs was rented by our hosts. It was pirivate and quiet. The restaurant was sure to have a bartender up there so we could purchase beverages of our choice if not water or ice tea which was provided by our hosts. We had a group of about 30 people including adults and children. R10 served salad (simple mixed greens with a tasty dressing, roasted fingerling potatoes, perfectly coooked asparagus spears, beef with chimichurri sauce and some of the most moist chicken (boneless thighs) I have ever had. I recommend R10 for a pleasant meal at the Redondo Beach Pier and I love that it was near the bike path. Kudos to the chef and bartender and entire team for how sweet and helpful they were. They understand the seasonality of business, and they gave us their A game for a quiet Tuesday 1pm group lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. So much so that I never took pics of my food. My group ended up here when the Mexican spot across the way was too busy, and I had no regrets. R/10 Social House is a welcoming, casual-dining gastropub nestled in Redondo Beach's King Harbor Marina. Its name comes from the "R10" deep-channel buy, a well-known local marker for navigators (and sea lions), a fitting moniker for a place meant to gather and enjoy a few drinks and some grub. Dinner was guided by our server, Dave W, who proudly told us he was from the South Side of Chicago. Dave was friendly, attentive, and had great food recommendations, which really helped us navigate the menu. To start, we tried the calamari. Good portion size, but a bit heavy on the breading, though I did enjoy the dipping sauce ('B' grade). Drinks were excellent, especially their spicy margarita with Tajín on the rim ('A' grade). I was also happy to see one of my favorites on tap, the Mayberry IPA from El Segundo, just down the road. For entrées, the Crab Stuffed Salmon was a standout ('A' grade), and the crispy chicken sandwich was also right on point ('A' grade). The pulled pork sandwich was just okay ('C+'), while the Fresh Catch Bowl got good reviews at our table, tasty, if not quite stellar ('B+'). Beyond the food, the hosts were all very sweet and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. Inside, the décor strikes a nice balance, nautical inspired with warm wood tones and a laid-back, modern beach vibe. It feels casual but polished, with good lighting and harbor views if you snag the right table. The only drawback: we had just spent the day moving and landed in a corner that could've used a little more air circulation. If you have lived in various beach towns anywhere, as I have, you will instantly get the vibe of R10 Social. It is basically what I would call a "shell shack", a fish joint decorated in shabby chic (maybe, unintentionally?). That is, casual, marine atmospheric, funky, worn, OG, you name it. It's all that here and more. That is its strength and possible mild drawback. Don't come expecting upscale or fancy digs. The food is good, even very good, but what you really come for is the setting. It is the pure luxury of the lazy boating life of the coupon-clippers. Just float up to the dock, pop on some flip-flops, and dig into fish and chips with beer. I was at a private party over the weekend, so I cannot speak to the menu or the service for regular meals. The food was good, i.e., steak, asparagus, salmon, and roasted potatoes. The dessert was a variety of amuse-bouches, mostly creamy, as in mini cheesecakes, etc. The staff were efficient and casually friendly, buzzing around almost unseen, making sure everyone was fed and watered properly (and we were). Unless you live nearby and can walk here, take a minute to consider the entire parking situation. When I arrived, driving 1.5 hours from home, the entry gate for the parking next to R10 said "closed". So, I elected to park on the street at a meter. Not the end of the world, but I was toting gifts and would have appreciated parking behind the restaurant. Apparently there was a second gate, but I couldn't know that. So, as a courtesy to fellow Yelpers, look for that second gate if the main one is closed. However, the street fare was good, 3.5 hours for $6.00. Further note of caution: don't try the upper floor unless you are completely nimble. There is no elevator, no ramp, nada. Our group included a 95 year old, a couple of people recovering from various bugs, and me, who had sprained my leg. I found the stairs to the top to be a punishment. Also, again, unless you are schlepping here early in the morning or after sleeping in, and want some sun on your face, this place will sparkle and glow more after dark. February 22nd My sister and I came here after a lovely kayaking session in Redondo Beach, hoping to enjoy a nice meal. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We were seated quickly and placed our order around 12:00 PM. About 30 minutes later, other parties who were seated after us had their orders taken and received their food first, even though they ordered the same items we did. I politely asked multiple servers for an update, and each time I was told they would check on it, but no one ever followed up. After waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes with no food and no explanation, we decided to leave. It was very upsetting and frustrating, especially since we noticed we were the only women of color in our section. We came in ready to support the business and enjoy our time, but instead left feeling ignored and disappointed. My friend made a reservation for NYE for a party of 6. Our server was Jake, he was very good. He gave us many good recommendations of the entrées. We had the chicken strips with fries, the beet salad, Brie chicken, octopus, filet minion with shrimp and scallops. Everyone really enjoyed their food! We also ordered many drinks, the bar is stocked well and pretty much anything you want is available. Only thing we were unaware that a reservation for the NYE party upstairs. From what I could tell there was nothing advertised regarding needing a reservation. We did have trouble with one of the bartenders upstairs. He said his name is Peter. He was quite rude and argumentative for really no apparent reason. But his behavior wasn't going to ruin our night out. We stayed for a couple songs of the live band and then bar hopped. The only reason I returned was because the crab-stuffed salmon I previously had was very good. I visited on Saturday around 2:30 p.m. Our waitress, Amber, informed us that several menu items were unavailable, including the crab-stuffed salmon, filet mignon, grilled hanger steak, and portobello & prawns. I almost left but stayed because I was very hungry after a two-hour bike ride. I ordered calamari, which I had to return because it was overly seasoned, but Amber was kind enough to remove it from the bill. I then ordered prawns with potatoes and broccoli. My friend ordered a medium steak with mashed potatoes and a vegetable kabob; the steak came out brown on the outside and very bloody in the middle, so it had to be sent back to be cooked longer. The food lacked seasoning overall, and even the hot butter and A-1 sauce arrived cold. I also had to ask multiple times for water, which was often forgotten. Sunset Sparkle left a bit to be desired -- was excited about the description but then when it arrived wasn't so sparkling and couldn't taste all the flavors that were supposed to be in there, not worth the price for me. R/10 has the best fish and chips in Redondo Beach. You will just love them. They are not super crispy so if you want that order something else. They are deep fried and there is real cod as the fish and the batter is just yummy. There is nothing not to like about R/10. It has a beautiful location at the Redondo Beach Pier, it is always kept super clean, reservations are seated on time and often you don't need a reservation. It is large with pretty booths and great table and chair seating. Parking for free is nearby or better to just pay the fee and park, you can then walk the pier after. The service is great. The servers know the menu and it is a mighty menu and can guide you. Our server was ever so kind and was very patient with my speech delayed grandson. He got his order right and he made him feel like he mattered. You are never rushed. The food comes pretty fast. They also have the best chowder and we love their sea bass and soul. TL/DR: Extremely slow service for people of color and mediocre food. It took almost 2 hours for my six year old to get her appetizer mac and cheese. I could have walked over to Whole Foods and brought back dinner and wine before we received our drinks. I could have driven to DTLA, picked up the mac and cheese from Maccheroni Republic, and driven back to R10 before my daughter's mac and cheese was brought out. Absolutely embarrassing service from R10. We have eaten here twice on weekends for dinner, and each time the service was very very slow. The first time for our family of 4, our server took 20 minutes to take our orders, 20 minutes to bring our drinks, another 30 minutes to bring our food, and finally 20 minutes to find someone to bring us the bill. The food was perfectly fine (not great, but not bad) and it was a nice place to people watch during sunset. The second time for a group of 8 of us, it was an absolute disaster. Again, it took 20 minutes for our server to show up and take our orders, then 30 minutes for our drinks to be delivered (some incorrectly). Then when we ordered one more can of beer, it took 20 minutes before we reminded our server, who then placed the order in the system and chatted with the bartender, then another 10 minutes before the bartender finally brought it over. He said he brought it over immediately after receiving the order, and that he wasn't busy at all. I wanted another drink, but didn't want to risk waiting 30 minutes for someone to open a beer for me. After waiting one hour for food, I left to buy snacks for the kids who were hungry and cranky at this point. Most of the food came once we had our snacks, except for 2 of the kids meals. After a few more minutes, the Almond Butter and Jelly sandwich for one kid was brought out - it didn't even need to be cooked and still took over an hour. At this point our six year old was crying because she still hadn't gotten her Mac and cheese (which was technically an appetizer). The server said she had no idea when it would be ready or if the kitchen had even started it, but we could try ordering something else and maybe it would come out quicker. All the adults had finished eating by now, so I walked to Project Barley and brought back a corndog and fries for my daughter. She ate that for 10 minutes before her mac and cheese was finally brought out, nearly 2 hours after we arrived. To repeat - I ordered and ate my entree and drink, walked to a convenience store and brought back snacks, walked to another restaurant to buy a kids meal, and my daughter ate it before her appetizer was brought to the table. When we complained to staff, they said there was a wedding banquet and the kitchen couldn't handle this many customers (the downstairs was less than half full). We asked them why they would still seat customers and accept our reservation knowing that they couldn't serve us, and they said they were always happy to take any reservation and customers would eventually get their food. Another table of 10 next to us was concerned about our daughter crying; we explained it was because we had been there almost 2 hours and she still hadn't gotten her food. Since they had been there for 15 minutes and hadn't even seen their server yet, they all left for the Mexican restaurant across the parking lot. I hope it wasn't racism, but we are Asian, the other table was Black, and everyone else was white. Want to guess who received bad service? There are other reviews about people of color getting bad service too, so this might not be an isolated incident. The food was fine. Not great but not bad, and actually reasonably priced. With decent service it would be a nice place to enjoy a few drinks and eat food that different palates would enjoy, but both times we've been there we were ignored and had to wait far too long for food and drinks. This place, I trusted, as one of the pit stops in my primary birthday celebration of the past birthday month. I am the type of person who celebrates a birthday month. The reason is simple--not everyone gets to live to see their next birthday. And each time I do, I want to thank the mighty forces of the Earth and beyond for keeping me around: to be silly, to be loud, and to help when I can and when I am allowed to. So yes, I want to blow out candles, eat frosting, and hear "Happy Birthday" in lyrical form because life has granted me another spin around the sun. If you remember that, then a person's birthday will not be just another day but a true cause for celebration. This belief led me to R10 because, when I am there, time seems to slow down--perhaps because I am having fun. R10 (I wonder how the joint got its name) is located at the Redondo Beach Pier, or close to it. When you get a booth next to a window, you can see the Redondo Beach wharf, full of boats and wood. I allow myself to imagine that I am a weary sea captain who has stumbled into this place, eager to escape the sea for a spell and enjoy the land while sipping on cocktails. When I want to enjoy the land, I do so at this place. My cocktail of choice here is the "Blackbeard," a twist on a vodka sour with blackberry. What would a seaworthy captain do to acknowledge the greatness of a drink? Burp in delight, wipe the suds from his face (some remaining on his beard), and open his single eye--the one not covered by a patch--widely, also with delight. I know I said "delight" twice, but I assume pirates are not profoundly eloquent. I mean, they used an X to mark a spot and didn't require people to find treasure behind a riddle or clever puzzle. I digress. The drinks and atmosphere conspire to make the air sweet in metaphor, as one cannot escape the salty air of the beach. In terms of food and service, the place is stable--like a plank should be, because you want a person to walk the plank and drop to their death by force, not due to substandard craftsmanship. Did a celebrity personally squeeze the lime with their bare, moisturized hands? Nope. It was just... a drink. It took me 30 minutes to get because of a bar tenders shift change. Unreal. Manager was zero help after asking her why. Their standard margarita was $12. You want mezcal, now it's $24. Most idiotic logic ever. A night out with the family that consisted of long walks along the beach while the princess rode her bike; we worked up an appetite. Trying not to drive around town looking for a spot to eat, we decided to stop at R10 Social House..... And I'm glad we did. There was little to no wait time to be seated (busy night). The staff was friendly and made recommendations on what we should try and what pairs together nicely. I settled for a Pull Pork sandwich with fries & beer and my wife got calamari with a sangria on the side. The food was delicious, fresh and hot. definitely a new go to spot when we are down by Redondo Beach. If you haven't stopped by, you should give this spot a try. read more
