I went there once for a fade. Paid over $30 to get a "oh you mean with the razor, I don't do that, you have to talk to (forgot his name) about it." that's from the owner. Didn't get lined up, my fade wasn't so fresh after like the 3rd day. So only sit with the old school guys there if you wanna look clean and fresh otherwise go spend $35 somewhere else. read more

Paul is good, but over time I realized I've always waited about 20-30 minutes past my pre-reserved appointment time. The experience is nice which includes a shampoo wash, and Paul is a great person. He is consistent with the same haircut, but may not always provide if you are looking for something new and different. read more

NO, JUST NO..... I called and made an appointment at 1:20pm and Marty was "done" by 1:30. I brought a picture in and he glanced at it, asked no questions and then just went about giving me the worst cut I've had since I tried to do it myself when I was 10 years old. The other stylists seemed to be giving legit cuts but this guy had me in and out the door looking worse than I did before I walked in. He didn't clean up behind my ears and the end result has me about to try and find somewhere else to get my haircut. read more

The best barber shop in schaumburg and probably the suburbs. Its tucked away in the corner. This is one of those rare barber shop where they will make you comfortable, listen to what you want and suggest what will work or not work with the hairstyle that you want. Yes its 24$ for the cut but would you rather pay 15 at a chain store for a mediocre cut and bland conversation or would rather pay for the experience and end up with a satisfied hair cut. First time here and came based on reviews. Brief wait for Marty who asked what I wanted. I told him to clean it up, make nice, and that a #3 guard is usually used. He free-handed this using a comb and clipper. This was impressive, until the following day when looking with two mirrors at the back. On right side only, looked like I had a very short "bowl cut" with obvious horizontal line about four inches separating two lengths. He also left long strays on my temples. Didn't seem like much care taken. I expected much better for $24 and could have gotten the same cut from an imbecile for free. Before sending me off he told me to blow dry my hair and use my "fingers to floof it up for the illusion of fuller hair." When I came back the next day they were very nice about correcting the mistake. As I was seated with Rita to do this, Marty insisted he be the one to fix it. This was fine until he asked me if I went somewhere else for a haircut, as if he didn't send me out like that, at which point I got out of his chair and asked Rita to even out the cut. Hair will grow back, but the hassle wasn't worth $24 for end result buzz cut. read more

Finally!! I have lived in the suburbs for 2 years and have not been able to find anyone who could properly do fades. I went to Sportsclips, Great Clips, shops around the corner, everything and it was always a horrible experience. Most of the time when they were done I just told them to buzz it off (they tried their best). I saw the pictures posted on Yelp about the Striped Pole and they seemed like they knew what they were doing. I booked an appointment for Sofia online. When I got there the shop was spotless. When I sat down she asked what I wanted and I explained my fear of trying to get a simple fade and how horrible my adventures in suburban haircuts have been. She took her time and I could tell immediately that she was a PRO. She faded the sides perfectly even and tapered the back just like I like. She lined the sides and back crisp. If you have hair like me (short, tight, curly) you know it is hard to find a good barber. Fear not, this is the spot for all hair types. When Sofia was finished and held up the mirror so I could see the back and sides I literally yelled "FINALLY!!" As long as I live in the suburbs I will NEVER go to another barber shop. Sofia is extremely knowledgeable about men's hair products/styles and has a keen eye for detail with the work that she does. I tried other more expensive salons (including Mario Tricoci) in an attempt to get a quality cut. I ended up with a botched haircut (disconnected undercut) that was fixed by Sofia.
