Going to Hair Cuttery or Sport Clips I view as a chore. I tended to put off hair cuts for as long as possible, and I was never happy with the result. Paul was excellent! The right cut for the right price. For years I would go elsewhere and get a dry barber cut for $15. Well, you get what you pay for and I needed a bit of an upgrade. My hair is simple. It only has one possible style to it, so paying more at a salon would be a waste of money. This was less than $30 for a wash and cut. It was just what I was looking for. I have hard to hair cut...cowlicks and crazy hairline, etc. I have been getting my hair cut by Kelly for the past few years, she is very easy to talk to and is always very thorough and obviously technically advanced because my haircuts are always exactly what I want. I also have a very busy schedule and it is hard to make appointments days in advance. Being able to use the online scheduler at the Striped Pole is great for me. I've been going to Kelly for a while now. The other barbers do a good job too it seems. Usually, Kelly gets booked up fast, so make your appointment a few days ahead. She can do it all, scissors, tight fades, etc. Plus, I suck at explaining hair. I just show her a picture on my phone and she does it. I just moved here from another state, so I looked on yelp for barber shops around town, after someone from sports clips butchered my last hair cut. Beatris is the best! To be honest I was a little scared to get a haircut from her because I did not see any reviews about her. But as soon as i sat in the chair, she was welcoming and warm and made me less nervous. She took her time with my haircut which was great. She always does my haircut perfect and pays attention to detail. She is always pleasant to talk to and I never feel rushed. It turns out she was still new at the 'Striped pole' thats why I didn't really see any reviews about her. The whole staff is nice, everyone greets you as soon as you walk in and says bye when you leave. So everyone come book with beatris, you won't regret it!. So this review is for a cut I got on April 4th.... I called before I came in on a weekend... thinking that it's a weekend that it was gonna be busy, they asked me who I wanted to get a cut from and I said idk it's my first time. When I came in I saw nothing buck ladies there working... Sorry gals, but for me, at a barbershop I expect to see guys working at a barbershop. I'm not being sexist or anything cause I'm gay for goodness sake, but at least one guy working. Anyways so I come in and I see nothing but kids waiting... I'm thinking they're waiting to get a haircut, but no it's all their kids with them while they were working. I check in and they send me with some Russian or Ukrainian chick all the way in the back, asked me what I wanted, and said that i don't know, I haven't really cut my hair in a while since I cut it myself, but I've been lazy too cut it so I came here.... She then asked, so what numbers do you get. I said, a two on the sides with a taper fade... She was still confused. I showed her a pic of the last cut I did on myself and she was all, oh wow, it looks good. So I'm expecting to get something like it. When she started cutting I could straight out tell that she really didn't know what she was doing or maybe that it was her son that she brought to work that kept on distracting her from doing a good cut cause when she was cutting it I felt as if she didn't know how to use the clippers, and kept on yelling at her kid. While she was cutting my hair I asked if she could clean my face a bit since I saw in here that they do the straight razor shave she said ok. When she came to do that she just started buzzing with a trimmer and nicking me a bit I'm sure she was able to tell I was a bit uncomfortable, and she said that the guy that does the straight razor shave is off for the weekend so he usually does that... Mind you that she already started. She kinda pissed me off even more than I was, cause she coulda just said that she didn't know how and I woulda done it myself at home. She asked how I wanted it to look like and I just told her to clean it up and make it look good. When she was done I was not happy at all with it, I straight out looked like a sex offender or some weird creep.... To make things worse I had forgotten my wallet so I had to rush home and told them that I'll leave my phone to make sure I'll come back and pay, even though I wasn't happy with the haircut or with what she had done to my face... Anyways, when I got home I had to straight out shave my face, and fix my hair a bit cause I had to rush back and pay. Oh, and I forgot the most important part that I did not tell them, I was proposing to my bf, surprising him at work. But yeah, I'm sure if I woulda told them that in the first place they might have done a better job or gave me a different stylist... Cause those chicks weren't barbers.... Anyways. What I have to say to them is.... If you're getting a new client, you might want to give them someone that will cut their hair good and make them want to come back.... I'd give one star to this place, but since they let me go home, which was all the way in Barrington, I give them two stars. Would I come back again, probably not, but since there is a guy that cuts hair, maybe. I think I'll call this time and ask to get a cut from someone else and give them and second chance. read more

I got my hair cut by Rita over the weekend and couldn't be more pleased. I should also add that just 2 months prior I went all the way to "the Belmont barbershop" (highly ranked in Chicago according to Chicago magazine), and though they did a hell of a job I was more pleased with the job Rita did. Just went in on spur of moment need for a haircut. Read the reviews so felt it was good. Came in and two girls asked if i had an appt said No so they said Marty you available. I normally dont let girls cut my hair since most don't know the proper way to taper a real man's hair. If I were to go....ask for Marty been cutting hair for 50+ years he said....but if you want eye candy then ask for one of the girls. From what I saw....they weren't as skilled as Marty.
