I understand that delays happen, but for such a fancy restaurant I would have at least expected some free drinks at the bar as compensation. This experience was absolutely stunning. The 360 degree view of Atlanta has truly given me a new perspective and appreciation for the city. The staff go above and beyond, from the time to checked in, to being seated and my fantastic server Judeen took such good care of me the whole time and was so knowledgeable about the city and the surrounding buildings. Though I only anticipated having a cocktail, which was delicious, I ended up having a variety of small plates with were so fresh, I couldn't stop eating. Not to mention, I wish I could bottle the fig butter up and take is home. This is definitely a spot you have to go to at least once if you can...and make sure you book right at sunset! read more

The elevator ride up 72 floors is quite the view. If you're afraid of heights like my partner you should stay near rather elevator doors. The view from the restaurant is a spectacular view of Atlanta. Note the restaurant doe NOT spin. So, if you are up to enjoy the sunset at for dinner make sure they seat you on the west side otherwise you will not see it. We had the Southern Fried Calamari with Pickled Okra and cherry peppers. They were good. I then had the Seared Day Boat Scallops with Brussels and my partner had Pumpkin Ravioli. Both dishes were very good. My boyfriend surprised me on our anniversary and brought us here for dinner. They were originally going to sit us in front of one of the poles that blocked our view (which I wasn't a fan of). I can see a regular sitting there or someone who's been before but it being our first time and our anniversary wasn't the wisest decisions for seating. My boyfriend immediately asked for a different seat without a blocked view. Our server was nice and had a nice sense of humor. I really liked the charred octopus but me personally I could have done without the hummus. The sauce carried the dish in such a good way. Either way I'd get it again. Our waiter, Mike, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered 3 orders of charred octopus for appetizers ($35 each). For our entrees, three of us ordered the sea bass (a bit expensive at $77). The fourth person ordered the filet mignon with a side of mushroom risotto. Unfortunately Mike forgot about the risotto. But, the steak was good, not amazing. Also, incredibly expensive at $88 with NO sides?!? I think you're paying for the view. I had 2 glasses of wine. The others had cokes. Altogether our bill was $500 before tip ($590 after tip). You can go to the bar without a reservation and they have a small menu. The company paid for our meal. If we were paying out of pocket, I wouldn't come here. The menu is classic and standard, ordered the steak which was well prepared. Mac n cheese was delicious as well. I enjoyed my food and the service. We had the lobster tail, crabcake, asparagus, Cesar salad and truffle Mac and cheese Very delicious food and the waitress was lovely However, we experienced some challenges. We had reservations for my sister's birthday and it was our first time so we had high hopes. Please note it no longer spins and no one says why. Also we were told you MUST order an entree to dine there. We weren't interested in the menu at all but did get the accompaniments instead to make a meal. Honestly overrated - pricing is 100% based on the view. You are absolutely paying for the view, not the food. The steak was not anything to write home about - just a generically "good" filet but nothing I haven't had before. The standout, however, is the bread and the amazing maple butter - it was fantastic. Service was fine, nothing wrong on that front. I guess I just expected more, food quality wise, considering the pricing (the is basically a $90 filet). Ehhh... i hate giving bad reviews, but this place was disappointing. Upon arrival, the views were immaculate - we rode up to the 74th floor and got an incredible view of atlanta. Sadly, it all went downhill from there lol. Our server was James, who was honestly kind of aggressive. He pressured us all to order an entree even though some weren't hungry and wanted drinks more??? He was really pushy with my out of town visitors and shaming them for not ordering an entree when they already ordered 2 drinks and 2 apps? Like i would have ordered no less than $200 in wine and drinks in addition to my entree, but because of how uncomfortable he made my party, we decided to just nurse one drink. That cocktail alone was overly saccharine that we didn't want another anyways. The food was honestly not good. My partner paid $105 for the "dry-aged" steak... that steak tasted like it was killed yesterday and not aged in the slightest (and also undersalted). My dog with no opposable thumbs could have dry aged a better steak. My $70 sea bass was flaky and cooked well, but it was bland and a bit fishy. Honestly, if they weren't jerks to my friends, this place would be a solid 2.5 stars, rounded to 3. But because of the overpriced excuse for a "fine dining experience" and being rude to my friends, they get a 1.5 rounded down to 1. I've wanted to try this place for years! Finally got my chance. I can see the appeal of the reviews and service is impeccable. I mean servers were some of the best I've ever experienced. We had a wait to park due to valet being backed up however within our grace period. Upon seeing the host we took the scenic elevator to the restaurant. What amazing views of the city! We the arrived checked in and were taken to our table. Just so you know the restaurant is no longer rotating however the bar is. Now the menu does look appeasing. Another note all the party is required to order an entree. The entrees are not cheap! There are no substitutions. The drinks were good and tall! Now to the food. The bread was good, crab cakes just ok. So i tried some of everyone's food. My fried w the chicken 2 ways: omg it was so salty to the taste. The waiter took it back and it came out still a little salty. The filet was good. My braised short rib was so dry i couldn't even eat most of it. I didn't wanna delay our next reservation so i didn't send it back due to time plus idk if it would've been even better. I would say for the price point not worth it but if you want an experience give it a try. One of the most sought after restaurants in Atlanta downtown, this, a 72nd floor restaurant at the West Inn, has incredible view of the city alongside some amazing food. Reservation is highly recommended to guarantee a spot. Its takes about 1-2 minutes to talk the whole circumference of the restaurant. Above the restaurant floor, they have a wonderful lobby and observation deck. Foodwise it was really great mostly. The complementary bread was a platter with 3 different kind of bread, 2 types of butter and olive oil. Their lemonade is awesome. We loved the lobster bisque, one of the best I ever had. The scallops were amazing. Loved the sea bass for entree. But the lamb chop was not a hit for me. The mustard and black pepper coating was too strong, it didn't taste good. Our entrees took about an hour to come out. That was shockingly unpleasant for a restaurant this high end and this popular. They were kind enough to give us a complementary dessert for the delay in entree. The creme brulee was fantastic. Apart from the delay, we had a really good time. Our server Mr. Kim was a pro. I was nervous going here based on the mixed reviews. Being new to Atlanta, I wanted to try it. I took clients out for dinner here hoping for a clear day sunset. First, the views and sunset did not disappoint! Amazing! But I was also pleasantly surprised by the food and service. All 4 of us had steak variations, all were delicious. Taking the elevator to the 72nd floor to the Sundial was awesome looking over the city on the way up. Once seated, we had a stunning view of the city at night. Very romantic. I ordered a mojito since the cocktails on the menu looked really sweet. We ordered the ribeye with a blue cheese crust enhancement and the Grouper with a shareable side of risotto. Both were good not great. The cost didn't match the food to me but I guess if you factor in the view of the city it's kinda worth it. They also gave me a birthday slice of cake which a plus. The best part about the whole evening, other than a great date, was the thrilling elevator ride up to the 77th floor. It's a clear tube and you get to see the city falling below you as you ride up. Fun! Dining right by the window with spectacular views as the sun was setting, and then moving upstairs to the rotating cocktail lounge was surely an experience. That's why I went to begin with and it lived up to the hype. The food, on the other hand, did not. It was perfectly fine, but not for the outrageous prices. To be fair, this kind of experience warrants high prices but I was expecting the food to be of the same quality. It's good. It's solid. The portions are pretty small and the quality can be described as elevated bistro food at best. But nothing to write home about. The service was cordial and the cocktails were really good. Incredible experience. The Sun Dial is a "high" end restaurant and venue, located on the 72nd floor of the Westin Hotel in Atlanta. Forewarned is forearmed -- food and drinks here are excessively pricy, so ensure you have deep pockets and cash to spare. I visited here on my 31st birthday, alongside my sister. Together, it was truly a memorable experience for me. I laud it as a once-in-a-lifetime event. If you ever find yourself in Atlanta -- do yourself a favor, dine here. Parking, I don't have any tips in particular, as we walked to the hotel / restaurant directly from the Georgia Aquarium, and had parked in its attached garage. Our brief, scenic route took us through Centennial Park, the colored Olympic rings, and straight into a grand hotel lobby entrance for the Westin, with revolving doors to boot. Head up the stairs, and the signs pointing to reception for the Sun Dial are unmistakeable. I recommend booking a reservation online, at around the cusp of sunset and nighttime ideally, so you can see both the day wind down and the (famed) wondrous nighttime city view of downtown Atlanta. I hastily booked it much earlier than sunset -- at 6:15pm -- as it was the only slot available to me, on my birthday which falls on a Friday this year, the first week of magnificent July. We were ushered into an open-glass elevator, with worthwhile views looking out into the cityscape of Atlanta, as it ascends. It stops on the 72nd floor, and drops you into a mini- waiting room, with the final reception and checkpoint for seating, straight ahead. Drinks -- we ordered the White Chocolate Mudslide & the Atlanta Hurricane. The Mudslide is essentially a glorified "milkshake" with a hefty price tag, but it was sweet and chocolatey and hit the spot. In hindsight, I would skip it, as most burger spots can make equivalent shakes. The Atlanta Hurricane came in rimmed with a fresh strawberry & pineapple, with both halves of the colored liquids mirroring the fruity tastes. I laud its interesting flavor, and would get it the next time. Appetizers -- Fried Calamari, and complementary bread (white and sourdough) with butter as a separate dish. The bread was solid, not great. Calamari was worth it, but it comes with fried pickles, which may not be everyone's jam. I spent way too much time eating the pickles, and "clearing the way" so to speak. This effort was largely wasted. Just go for calamari, and be warned, the dish *is* served with lot of pickles. Entrees -- Halibut (fish) and Filet Mignon w/ Whipped Potatoes on side. I tasted the Halibut and it was just so-so, my sister enjoyed it. I had the Filet Mignon, and in terms of price it was a close second to the days-aged strip steak, which cost almost a mind-blowing, head-turning, and eye-popping 100$ -- understated as a "pretty penny". I would rate it as *above-average* & ultimately not worth the exorbitant price tag. Let's face it, there are upscale restaurants that can do better, for much less. However, it was worth it, when the ambiance is taken into consideration. Ambiance -- Speaking of, there are great window views to be had, and family-photo-worthy scenes to be snapped. After our meal, we took the short flight of stairs up & strolled around, exploring the observatory and above deck. I would likewise recommend taking a tour of the place, time allowing. Final thoughts -- The receipt is attached, so food+drink pricing can be weighed and taken into consideration. I am detracting a star mainly for the super-high prices & underwhelming taste. This is definitely the most expensive sit-down spot I've been to (so far), but it's worth it for a first-time experience. The stunning views alone -- indoors and otherwise -- ensure this. As a keepsake, one is given the option of taking home the original drink glasses, which is a sublime touch. All in all, this was a wonderful way to spend my birthday with family, and we both enjoyed the views and sit-down experience at the "high" end Sun Dial restaurant. I heartily recommend to others who likewise visit Atlanta, as this is a "must-go" experience. Especially if it is your birthday, there is no better way to spend the evening in Atlanta -- trust me! read more
