Great vibes and service, but the food and bar delay missed the mark. My family brought me here for my birthday back in May to celebrate. I've always been a big fan of Chef Marcus Samuelsson and my family absolutely raved about the Sunday brunch, so my expectations were high. Overall, it was a mixed bag. For my main, I had the short ribs, which were actually quite good and full of flavor. However, since my family loves to order family-style and share, I got to sample a bit of everything--and unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell flat, especially given the steep price points. Charging $20 for six chicken wings feels steep, and the $29 fish sandwich was disappointing and mostly batter. My sister had the red snapper, which was just so-so. For these prices, the food really needed to deliver a "wow" factor, and it just didn't. As for the energy, the place was packed for a Saturday night and the atmosphere was jumping! The DJ was fantastic and the crowd was having a great time. However, management severely understaffed the bar. Having only one bartender working a packed house on a Saturday evening is unreasonable; I actually had to leave our table to walk up to the bar just to get a drink. On a positive note, our waitress was wonderful--super pleasant, attentive, and provided great service despite the busy floor. The Bottom Line: High marks for the DJ, the ambiance, and our server, but low marks for beverage pacing and overall food value. I can only speak for the food served at our table, but I think Chef Marcus Samuelsson would be genuinely disappointed in the quality and presentation we received that night. I am going to keep this short and to the point with only truth and accurate details. Please keep in mind that I have dined at Michelin-star restaurants as well as some of the best "hole in the walls around the world. I am fine if my palate and a chef's vision do not meet; however, I am not fine with lackluster food, poor quality, and a buffet that was never refreshed. It's a shame you all were too lazy to make fresh chicken or pancakes. The collard greens had seen better days and were living on expired time. The biscuits and chicken gravy were good. The cornbread waffle had so much potential if it weren't ten years old. I know Macus Samuelsson doesn't work here or know about this. Those drinks are too strong; I'm telling you, you can only take two sips. My sangria must have been made with MD20/20! The DJ burst my eardrums, and my watch alerted me twice. You can't even have a conversation with your guest because of all that noise--conversation level is key. I'm going to stop here, but I could say more. First time coming here for a very good friend of mine's birthday celebration gathering. She had reservations for eight on a Saturday evening. Since it was a nice weekend everyone and their auntie's cousin's friend were outside. With that being this location was packed to capacity. I unfortunately got there late because it took me a minute to find parking! PLEASE NOTE: When traveling or going to any restaurant on Edgewood there's no private lot parking! You will have to find parking on the street or find a valet. Around the fourth or fifth time looking for parking I finally found decent valet parking! I would advise everyone coming here to give yourself about thirty minutes prior to secure parking. On another note the waiter/host was amazing! So kind, hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. A true gem! I believe her name was Naya and she was great! She made sure I got all of my food and drink! Chef Marcus has been one of my favorite chefs since I discovered the Food Network back in grad school. I was so excited when I learned that he was opening up a restaurant here in Atlanta. Upon entering I was so happy to see the decor. It was very nice. Very kind of old school retro homage to and good music; it was a very nice space. We ordered a couple of different dishes and shared everything and the food overall was quite good. Then your eye is caught by the fiery furnace out of which magical food appears. The decor is modern and kitschy and perfect. I was in love! Server was gracious and friendly. But you will know him because he has the best glasses you ever saw! Of course it was the brisket sandwich talk with the most delicious peaky barbecue sauce... Oh my God I won't even talk about it. They even have a grill outdoors that offered prawns and crab legs (but I couldn't find any butter for dipping) It's very loud in here. It was hard to have small talk with my table mates. I wish there were more dessert options. The banana pudding was far from actually banana pudding. The service was great! My husband and I are huge fans of cooking shows and Marcus Samuelsson is one of our favorite celebrity chefs, hands down. Yes, we are those people, and we were so excited to try one of his restaurants! We had a reservation and got seated right away. The ambiance is super bustling and fun, with a wall of roller skates, shadowboxes behind the bar with Marcus-like hats and other little knickknacks, and a little shrine to Prince at the kitchen pass. Our server was a little on the quiet side, but he still was excellent at everything, including questions and recommendations. He told us that everyone loves to start with the M's Corn Bread because it's that good, and OH MY - he was so right. It was almost a dessert, with a huge dollop of sweet honey butter on top and salty giant cornbread cake below. Yum! We also got a few heartier starters, as this was our big blow-out meal before we left Atlanta. Our first appetizer was the Deviled Eggs. I consider myself a deviled egg aficionado, and these were top notch. Creamy, unctuous, and with little chitlins on top for some crunch. Smaller app, but I definitely recommend. We next had the Lobster Gnocchi, and WOW. It was a large portion of pillowy lobster gnocchi, chunks of lobster itself, and a huge bed of lobster butter that was almost a lobstery marinara. This one was more on the expensive side, but totally worth it! When we decided on entrees, we got two different things to share so we could each try both. I got the B&G Smashburger, because I hadn't had a burger in Atlanta yet on our trip, and it has the restaurant's name in it, so it had to be good, right? Yes! It was so perfectly cooked, and had a delicious onion jam on it that gave it a slight sweetness, along with a garlic aioli for a little tang to counterbalance the jam. It also came with some very well seasoned fries, so it's a lot of food! We got a side of the Mac and Cheese to split also, made with sharp cheddar and toasted on top to make a cheesy crust topping. My mouth is watering again just talking about that mac and cheese. My husband went on the lighter side for his entree, and got the Miso Salmon. The salmon filet was grilled to perfection, and came atop a bed of crab fried rice and a red curry sauce. And it came with a pea puree that would put the Top Chef cheftestants to shame. Neither of us could finish either of our entrees, but we were not sad about that - we were saving room for dessert! Again, we chose two to share. I got the Banana Pudding, and it was heavenly for this banana lover. It had the banana pudding itself, obviously, but the jar it came in was lined with salted caramel, vanilla wafers, and vanilla cream on top! The different components gave it a great crunch to counterbalance the soft pudding, and the salty/sweet combination was amazing too with the salted caramel cutting all the sweet parts! Our second dessert that we shared was the Sticky Bun. This tasted like Christmas in a little bun! Cinnamon, pecan, other spiced flavors - and topped with vanilla ice cream. If you're a fan of spice cake or cinnamon, this one is for you. Sooooo good. So if you couldn't tell from my novel of a review, we had the absolute best time at Marcus B&G in Atlanta. We left with VERY full stomachs (and empty wallets LOL) but we had no regrets. We met my nephew and grandniece for dinner at Marcus Bar + Grill. It was lovely. Marcus has this chill vibe that makes it very comfortable. Low music. Excellent service -- thank you server Rachel. Tables far enough apart that we didn't over the other guests. The menu is fairly concise which always gives me confidence that the meals are made fresh and that the chefs know what they are doing. We started with drinks and their amazing cornbread. The cornbread was big enough for the four of us to share. My wife ordered an okra based main course ("crispy okra with coconut risotto, spicy tomato sauce, and basil oil") and I had grilled red fish filet ("pan-seared red fish is finished with nutty black sesame tahini, spiced baby carrots, and bright pickled cranberry"). Of course we shared the dishes. And both were great. Extra points: Marcus is a 10-minute walk from our house. On this particular Tuesday night, this was an adult crowd, not young people looking for companionship. And adults is my preferred demographic. The moment I walked in this restaurant the vibes were just what I wanted and needed cozy yet grown up and intimate. I came here with a group of friends and we started off with two appetizers. We ordered the deviled eggs and cornbread. The deviled eggs I do not try but they looked delicious as my friends said and they demolished them. I definitely tried that cornbread which was big enough for all four of us to eat on and it was mouth watering. We decided to order a dish that all of us could share and that dish was called "The cookout". We had jerk chicken, bbq pork ribs, edgewood brisket, crispy potato, collard greens, caramelized plantains. The ribs were so delicious as were the collard greens and crispy potatoes. The brisket was ok although my friends said it melted in their mouth and they enjoyed the jerk chicken and plantains. I was happy that all 4 of us could share this dish with food still left over to take home. Service was great and I would love to come here again in the future. A friend invited me to a Brick Oven Special Event here, so I decided to check it out. I'll keep it short--right now I'm giving it 3 stars, but I definitely plan to come back in the next month for a second try. The Brick Oven Specials were actually sold out by the time we got there, even though they were still handing out the menu--which was a bit of a letdown. I ended up ordering the deviled eggs, ribs, and gnocchi. The deviled eggs were just okay--nothing close to the horseradish-kicked ones I used to get from a little deli in Dunwoody before the pandemic. The gnocchi didn't really hit either--kind of soggy and underwhelming. The ribs, though, were solid, and the mac and cheese was a standout--served in a mini cast iron skillet and really tasty. The restaurant itself has a fun, lively bar scene, huge TVs perfect for watching the game, and a super spacious patio. The interior decor is also really well done. This is my second time attending the restaurant, because we attended a private room brunch last year. However, this year we were seated in the main dining area, and we actually had an even better experience. Make no mistake, this is definitely a vibe. From, perfectly fried catfish to expertly done cheese grits, this is definitely the place to both eat well and dress well. Service here can depend somewhat on the server you get, but our guy was on top of everything, including the fact that we had three tables and over 30 people in the general area. Yeah, right! so I'll give them five stars for service 4 stars overall for food even though the breakfast bar was fully stocked, the dessert options were completely out of stock. My best friend had to actually get custom made banana pudding's, which they did oblige, so I do give them credit for that. From the moment we arrived on a busy Saturday night (7 PM), the experience was first-class. We parked easily right out front. I had noted our anniversary in the reservation, and when we checked in, we were immediately and warmly greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" before being seated right away. The atmosphere was lively, well-filled, but comfortable. Our waitress was a vibrant young lady who started us off with an excellent recommendation: the "M'S Cornbread" ($14). It was huge, perfect for sharing, incredibly soft, buttery, and had that perfect hint of sweetness--everything you could want in cornbread! For drinks, I had the refreshing BAYAB FROZEN LEMONADE ($14) (gin, lemon, hint of orange), and my girlfriend loved her PCH RITA ($15) (spicy house tequila, peach, lime). They arrived right after the cornbread. For our main course, we decided on the COOKOUT ($85), which is advertised to feed 2-3 people. It was a perfect choice! We had ribs, fried chicken, and brisket, along with sides of sweet potatoes and collard greens. We also added the Macaroni and Cheese ($11). The kitchen is open, which was intriguing and fun to watch! Despite the restaurant being full, our food arrived quickly (about 10-15 minutes). Everything was delicious! The fried chicken was crispy and so flavorful. The ribs were incredibly tender and you could distinctly taste the wonderful charbroil flavor--so good! The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender and a very generous portion. The collard greens were amazing--a great blend of flavor and sweetness that didn't overpower. The Macaroni and Cheese was a highlight, made with sharp cheddar gratin and toasted breadcrumb, giving it a beautifully crispy top and a cheesy, decadent middle. Then the cornbread came out with butter and, I think it was maple syrup, not sure, but it was so good. Then the main course came out, shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles, and greens. A variation of Southern specialties. The shrimp & grits had some buttery seasoning. Chicken was crispy fried, waffles were thick and moist with some sweetness. The service is outstanding and the vibe was perfect. The recommendations did not miss and the attentiveness was just right; not overbearing whatsoever. Arrived 10 minutes early, restaurant was open, reservation was at five. Ask the maitre d if we could be seated early. She said coldly, "you will be setted promptly at five. The food was highly priced, and tasted like a TV dinner that was in the freezer past it's expiration date. Spent over $159.00 , very much not worth it. I see no room for improvement. The ambiance is modern, chic, and hip-hop infused. I love the cultural aesthetics throughout the entire establishment. Our server--I forgot her name--was awesome. She wore green glasses and had on some eclectic earrings. She waited on us perfectly. She checked in and wasn't overbearing. She knew the menu and recommended some tasty items on the all-you-can-eat selections. Food: The chicken and the special hot sauce were excellent. The grits weren't good; they were extremely watery and grainy. Salmon bites were tasty but a bit salty. Catfish was excellent. The food bar needs a little work, but I will go back.
