My husband and I stumbled upon this breakfast treasure yesterday morning. This was our first time in that area of Maine, we had been up to look at a couple of summer houses and we decided to stop and grab something to eat while we were up there. We drove by and turned around to give it a try. The inside is a little boring, but quite clean. The service was fast and friendly. Coffee was OK, nothing to write home about. My hubby got an omelet and raisin bread toast. I got the raspberry pancakes with a side of bacon. Both meals were DELICIOUS! The three pancakes were as big around as the plate and the stack must have been 3 inches high - much more than I could eat. The price for this huge plate of pancakes ? $5.55!! The were fluffy, with a perfect golden outside and a lightly crispiness around the edges. My husband was equally impressed with his breakfast! The omelet was quite large, filled the whole plate and also looked light and 'fluffy'. Perfectly finished - eggs overcook quite quickly and tend to be a hit or miss item at many places. They have a small breakfast menu, but plenty of choices including a small section for lighter choices (egg beaters, light french toast, etc) and a children's menu. For all of that food plus 2 cups of coffee we paid $16.49 +tax. What an amazing bargain. This is easily in one of our 5 favorite breakfast places overall. Value for the money it easily is number 1! Not a bad little dive in bar restaurant located in a charming little town of Belgrade. I had the Steak Bomb sandwich on a gluten free bun.

Some locals say it's the best food in town, they might be right because it's the only food. Each visit gets progressively worse-worse service and worse food. If there is a manager, he/she is out-to-lunch (and while you're there could you bring us back some good food?) The last trip, and I mean last, was a Sunday evening with less than half the full restaurant. It took 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine and an iced tea. The rest of the drinks, a soda and glass of water, would make their way to the table about 10 minutes later. 30 minutes to order and after being there an hour the 'meal' finally arrived. I thought I'd play it safe with nachos, however, I was wrong. The plate arrived with a dry pile of chips and what had been chicken pieces at some point. There was no point in sending it back, I didn't have another hour to wait. I will say, the waitress was smart enough to not ask how any of our meals were. OK this place was an absolute pit-hole. Combination of a burnt hotdog roll wrapped around canned crab meat, with a few potato chips for the price of $16 compelled me to toss it out after one bite. We are frequent flyers for Sunday breakfast. I don't understand why I'm seeing unfavorable reviews because we've always experienced good food and very friendly service. I'm fine with modest furnishings provided things are clean, which seems to be the case here. understandably it gets quite busy so expect delays if you roll in between 9-10 in the morning. read more

We stopped here for a quick dinner and drinks. Kammy our waitress was phenomenal. She gave us great some great recommendations for dinner. We started w nachos and onion rings. So I had to drop a start this year. Came her for dinner one night, as per our annual family trip. When we came in the place was crowed with a few dirty tables open, but certainly not ready for patrons. The young server said to grab a seat wherever. So we opted for a seat outside. We waited, and waited, and waited .... looked at my watch ... and waited. Three different servers came out during this time and some a few times and NO ONE even looked out way. I gave them a little more time, but nope. I had to go in myself and ask if someone, anyone, could possibly wait on us. Of course the young lady apologized and came right out to get our orders. Of the limited options for lunch in this little town, we're glad we went with Sunset Grill. It's diner food that is quite good and feels like a place locals would hang out. My bacon mushroom Swiss burger was very respectable. You can see in my photos that this is no pre-frozen burger. Big, perfectly cooked rare, and tasty toppings. The seasoned curly fries are yummy. My husband's beans and dogs were good, tasty Maine hot dogs with crisp casings. Fish chowder had a big piece of haddock, lots of potatoes and celery, and was savory and good. read more

Had high hopes for this place, but disappointed. When we walked in, we were told to seat ourselves anywhere that we liked, which was fine, but after about 20 mins and no server, we thought maybe we needed to go up to the bar to order. Server finally showed up with menus and we ordered. Drinks and food came out pretty fast, but then another long wait for the chk (20+ mins). Great food and drinks at a reasonable price. Friendly and prompt service. Drinks are sturdy and cold. The heaping club sandwich plate is seven bucks. The chicken pie is hearty and fresh, full of meat and fresh steamed vegetables and topped with a homemade crust. Always several specials along with a generous menu. I've been coming back to this restaurant year after year. It's one of the few in this isthmus town. I do like that they have a lobster dinner for $13.95. When the weather permits (in summer) the back patio can be a pleasant place to watch the sun set. The pie is not bad. The inside of this restaurant is typical casual Maine-y. I was much amused once, when I was in Waterville (considerably bigger than Belgrade Lakes), looking for a place to go out and see some nightlife, and I was told that I should try the Sunset Grille in Belgrade Lakes! But, as I said, it's one of the few places to go out and hang. I think it might be the closest thing to a bar in the town. And the do have a bar that you can sit at. read more

I recommend the potato skins appetizer, and pulled pork nachos! Best desription would be a Dive Bar. A Bar, Our experience on Thursday evening. One patron was passed out with his head on the table. The place was packed with drinkers, It was very loud. It took one half hour for our appetizer (which was cold) to be served. After an hour we gave up waiting for our entree's so we walked out. I attended a Monday jam session at the Sunset Grille. The only thing I ordered was a tonic water with lemon. The tonic water tasted bitter. When I brought it to the waitperson's attention, she told me it was the same tonic water as was in my friend's drink. I explained that that may be so, but that the tonic water alone tasted bad. Her response was that there was nothing she could do about it . . . I got the impression she didn't care if the customers were happy with their order or not. I was a wait person for many years. Never would I have ignored a customers complaint about an order or treated them as if they should just deal with it. As I left the jam session, I was accosted by the jam host in the parking lot who complained that next time I needed to treat "her" wait persons better. I informed the host that there wouldn't be a next time. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on stage performing at said jam, however, after being accosted in the parking lot as I was leaving by the host, I'll never return. As I said above, I was a wait person for many years, my suggestion to the owner of this establishment would be that s/he remind the waitpeople and the host of the jam session, that the customers of a restaurant should be treated with respect and dignity. When a complaint it lodged, instead of turning the problem back on the customer, a waitperson's responsibility is to do whatever is possible to fix the problem. When a waitperson is told that something tastes bad, it is their responsibility to find out why. i'd further suggest that the owner inform the host of said jam session that without the performers, who get the audience involved in the show as my group did today, a jam session is just a mediocre event that falls dead in front of the stage. I found the physical atmosphere of The Sunset Grille delightful and would love to go back again. But until I could be assured that I would be treated with respect by the waitpeople and not be accosted in the parking lot as I'm leaving, that option is out. read more

I give this spot a 4 star as they have excellent service and a HUGE menu offering many home cooked favorites (prime rib!), generously portioned salads made with fresh ingredients and of course the classic burger and fries. Great breakfast and they do a mean Benedict! They have trivia and live music and stay open year round, which is a HUGE plus. This is a diamond in the rough and worth a stop. read more

When you pull into the dirt and gravel parking lot, walk in and sit in a booth with worn out cushions, and see food on the floor under your table and a spider web in the window you think, what am I doing here? But you stay and order something from their diverse menu or pick a special from the blackboard, and after your first bite you're glad you did. I've been coming to the Sunset Grill for years and I've taken friends and family here and have never been disappointed. Obviously many others feel the same way. Went there with wife first time sat at bar for ten minutes before they came to us then was told it would be over 40 min for a burger and fry's and it cost me 5 bucks for a warm beer.
