We planned a trip to Maine so we could see a few of the places that were featured on the show. The food was not good, service was good and the ambiance was excellent. We loved the music and the outdoor setup was great for our dog. I think if you want to say thank you to your fans you shouldn't overprice the food and drink. You should have episodes playing on a tv in the bar area.

We stopped in here one evening on a cold Friday night the end of October while on vacation. There weren't many folks there when we visited - I'm guessing because it was pretty cold out - as I recall - it was below 32 out. There were maybe a dozen total folks in the outdoor bar area - some of them gathered around the fire cans trying to stay warm. We hung out at the bar and had a couple of Ales - I really enjoyed the Sebago Red Ale - a hoppy red ale! There was a musician up on the stage performing some Irish folk songs on an acoustic guitar. Before we headed home later in the weekend - we stopped in to the gift shop and purchased some Maine Cabin Masters/Kennebec Cabin Company swag: Maine Cabin Masters pint glasses, an MCM beanie, and some Man Glitter! #TheWoodshed

Dinner was great- had the calamari appetizer, and stuffed baked haddock. While not the best I've ever had, it was pretty good. Mashed potatoes could have been more mashed - ran into some large hard chunks. Our waitress pleasant, but interrupted our conversation several times. Some social training seems to be in order. Additionally, she disappeared for over 15 minutes, leaving our drinks sitting on the bar. I fetched them for our table and she never even seemed to notice. Although the food tasted good, we will never be back, as both my husband and I suffered diarrhea from it... wasn't going to mention this but honestly people should know. I've never had to report this about a restaurant in any of my reviews.

They took it in stride and had a table for 12 ready right on time, even with a steady stream of regulars and tourists. The restaurant and brew pub feels like a golf club inside, casual and clubby yet classy. The food is AMAZING. Who knew a beet salad with goat cheese could be such an experience! Some of our folks appreciated that you can order from the kids' menu, and even there you can find something special like a house-made quesadilla along with the usual kiddie burger and Mac-n-cheese. But we never got around to trying their beers!

What are they famous for you ask? Well, seafood...of course. Specifically, the lobster roll. My boyfriend loves the lobster roll! I had the popcorn chicken basket with crinkle fries that I could eat everyday if given the choice. The seasoning and breading are just right & fried until golden brown without sacrificing safe cooking or flavor. Another one of those busy places-it's a restaurant that attracts locals and tourists. They've always got inspirational quotes on their marquee. Outdoor patio seating (tables with umbrellas) and a no-frills, basic interior decor. Gives total seaside vibes.

They have the option for ordering takeout Ahead of time or online. There is significant outdoor seatting as well as a small interior dining room. The interior has one non gender handicap, accessible bathroom. The menu is not excessive, but the portions are generous. CAUTION: pay close attention to the prices. they will fluctuate and you should not assume what the final cost of your meal will be beforehand!! My clam basket and my daughter's 1/4lb roll (2 20 Oz drinks) totaled $65!! Now I will absolutely give credit to them for the clam portion being large and high quality. These were the type of onion rings that I prefer, which are thinner and more crunchy with less batter. That said, the total completely blew my mind.Because even with a very industry standard upcharge for onion rings in place of french fries.I had sticker shock. I grew up near Portland so I understand the price of seafood can change quickly. But I would say do some price shopping. Because this is more about the experience of the location since the quality of food does exist at other restaurants. In maine.

Time for a little update!…read more It's been a hot minute since we've been back to visit -- four years, actually -- and the fact that this gem still exists says something! This time we brought the whole family for dinner. I'd recommend reservations on weekends since it was packed, but we got seated right away because we planned ahead. Our waitress was top-notch -- high energy, charming, attentive. I'd give her 6 stars if I could! She read our crew well and adapted to each individual at the table -- a skill that clearly came from experience, and it served her (and us) well. Everything we had was great: cocktails, appetizers, dinner -- not a bad thing on the table. But the standouts for me were the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Spicy Shrimp Shio Ramen. For drinks, the seasonal Crazy (whiskey, Amaro Montenegro, beet, cayenne, lemon, egg white) and the Veruca Salt (tequila, coconut, avocado, pineapple, lime) were both incredible. I loved them so much I'm making a special trip back to town during my stay just to have them again ;) Bravo, State Lunch! You've got a fan for life.
