The only reason I'm even giving them a one star is because 1. I have to 2. My waitress was super great! The rest of the crew I can't say the same! I made a reservation a month in advance (no one had reserved a table as of yet) for 12 people for my parent's 50th anniversary. Something was miscommunicated and they ended up booking other parties after me but I'm the one who was cancelled! On top of that they tried to put our poor waitress in the middle of it and by having her call me, instead of the managers calling me. This all 2 weeks before the event. When I tried to call them ALL the managers were in a meeting and said they'd call me back right away. Never received a phone call. Why didn't they cancel the other party that was booked after me, instead of me? Guess I'll never know and shame on them for hiding behind that poor girl! I won't be giving them my money and I certainly will make sure everyone I know doesn't either! Now I'm left scrambling to find a decent facility for a once in a lifetime event. read more

We had lunch at The Sycamore last week and enjoyed our expereince. The restaurant is part of the Van Metre golf course. We wete greeted and seated right awsy. Our server was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Lovely view of driving range/golf course. Portions were generous. Bar seating, outside deck, interior porch and main dining room. Homemade chips were delicious. My bean burger did not have a lot of flavor and was cold in the center. While I wasnt wowed by the meal, I will try them again due to service and atmosphere. We had a 7:00 reservation for the prix fixe NYE dinner. The crab soup was very thin but flavorful. The salad was good but they needed a better dressing with it. The pork tenderloin was a little dry but tasted better with the kale and sauce. The duck confit was decent and tasty. The choco flan was a different dessert. It was good but weird. We sat outside on a very nice day. The view of the course is beautiful and this is the best outside seating in the area. The service was outstanding and the food was ok. I had the Bibb salad and honestly it didn't work. The lettuce was served whole and the beets overpowered everything. The salmon on top was cooked perfectly and my wife enjoyed her food. The atmosphere is inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Breast, and it was quite tasty--crispy on the outside with a nice balance of heat and sweetness. The fries were good, though I would argue they weren't truly hand-cut. Prices are a little high, but what isn't these days? We had the Cod with Miso, broccoli risotto and cauliflower. The cod is a flaky white fish that had been fried and it was gray. The risotto was soaked in a sticky sweet dark sauce which is supposed to be miso but there was nothing miso at all. It was nasty. The cost was $25.00 per dish. 18 Oct 2024 We dined today at The Sycamore. They were highly recommended by a friend. Our experience was horrible. I ordered the fish tacos. They were okay, but cold and in need of seasoning. The Mrs. ordered the honey chicken sandwich. Her chicken sandwich was delivered to the table next to ours. The lady picked at it then told the server that's not what she ordered. The server took it back to the kitchen. After a few minutes our server brought that same sandwich to our table. So not only was this sandwich picked at by our neighboring table then delivered to us. It was so overcooked it was in edible. The cook should be fired immediately. I felt sorry for our server. She was constantly apologizing for the horrible cook's mistakes and bad cooking. Overall, dining at The Sycamore was a travesty. We will never dine there again. Ever. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant about two years ago when it first reopened. At that time, I found the food to be a little salty, but the waitress was great, and overall, it was a good experience. However, we met friends there this past Tuesday night for a birthday gathering, and I have to say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. I ordered the filet, which cost $42, and it was paper-thin and drenched in salt. The garlic mashed potatoes were more like smashed potatoes that fell apart when I tried to put them on my fork. My husband ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger, requesting it to be cooked medium, but it was practically raw. We arrived at 6:00 PM, and due to the long wait for our food, we didn't leave until after 8:00 PM. I would not recommend this place again. We chose not to speak up about our complaints because it was our friend's birthday dinner, and we didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable. Overall, it was a terrible experience! read more

As with most places that setup next to a great view, the food - and service - is disappointing. They put CANNED corn (direct from the can) on the tacos, didn't bother to salt the fish SLICE they provide for the fish tacos, and no real sauce, so was very disappointing. I ordered their Mac & Cheese for a side (à la carte), and I can't swear there was actual cheese in it. Seems like they just watered down a jar of cheez whiz, threw it over pasta (again with NO seasoning), and called it good. The service was just as bad. The server was apathetic and helped the table set 10 minutes after me first, never checked to see if "everything was ok", didn't ask if I wanted more alcohol, just slapped the bill on my table, taking For. Ever. to bring it back. I cancelled my cc immediately when I left because I seriously feared that it was cloned (tho I approved the last charges, including Sycamore, to be paid). This place was absolutely beautiful inside. Me and a friend went for a dinner date and the view was just beautiful. The service was amazing- our waitress checked don us often and gave great recommendations. The food was so good i finished my first plate before taking a pictures but I got the brisket mac and smoke chicken poppers. They poppers were so flavorful and delicious, perfect texture. The mac was good but the brisket was kind of dry. My friend got the fish tacos and they were SUPER yummy. Overall would definitely go back- wouldnt get brisket! read more

I've been here twice now and I waited until after the second time to try and get a better sense in case the first time was an aberration. The reality is that I really WANT to like this place but they really seem to want to make it hard. It's beautiful and the setting is great. The first time there was a long wait and we were the only two people in the place for a late lunch. Well, the second time I actually made a reservation. This time there was our party and one other couple. Still, 45 plus minute's wait....for sandwiches. Okay, how about drinks? The cocktails we ordered with our lunch came out about 5 minutes after the appetizer. No apologies from the wait staff, no updates on when to expect our food. It took 2 hours to have what was a pretty mediocre sandwich and salad.. Nothing better than at any mid priced diner. Had a wonderful dinner with friends. I had the pork which was amazing - Two others got the smoked meat plate which they said was delicious. My other friend got the fish tacos and Brussels sports. We made reservations for Christmas Eve and brought my parents. They offered the full menu, along with a Christmas dinner plate special. We started with the Nashville chicken and watermelon appetizer (mostly out of curiosity) and the fried green tomatoes (because my mom hasn't ever had them). Both were exceptional! For dinner we all ordered something different: half chicken, 3-hour NY strip, fish tacos, and butternut squash ravioli. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we each commented on the amazing flavor of everything. Our server was incredible - explaining everything we inquired about in great detail. We finished the evening with the crème brûlée cheesecake and the cinnamon apple egg rolls with caramel. DELICIOUS! The dining room was decorated tastefully with a beautiful tree in the center of the room. It was a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve (and I didn't have to cook!) I ate there recently and have enjoyed eating there several times in the past. This time, however, my meal was not good. I ordered the shrimp and grits with chorizo. The shrimp and grits were fine - not delicious but acceptable. The chorizo was burned to a black crisp. Very un-tasty. Additionally, their prices have gone up quite a bit. I understand that had them low when they opened but now the rise in cost is noticeable. Plus, they removed the best thing on the menu: truffle fries! I got the filet, it needed A-1 sauce so that tells you how good it tasted. it was not seasoned at all, the mashed potatoes were very bland, the green beans were surprisingly the best part of the meal. My husband had the shrimp and grits and described it as "ok". I ordered chocolate mousse for dessert and it was gritty, another patron said the exact same thing behind us, we were brought another one, and it was just sugar in a dish....not good! The manager said he would "take care of the mousse" but never removed it from the bill. $100 meal and I've had a better steak for 1/2 the price at Cider Press in Inwood WV. very disappointed read more

We were looking forward to trying this place out but unfortunately we couldn't get any service. It wasn't busy, there were a few tables of people outside (an option we weren't offered). So we just got up and left, the bartender and server were in the bar section, I told them thanks for nothing and we walked out. They couldn't have cared less, not even a recognition that we even existed. It was a blessing in disguise because we went to Kitzie's and had great service and a good meal. Went here last night. Didn't make a reservation since we live a minute away. Inside on the bar area was beautiful. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Seated right away out on the patio with a beautiful view. Waitress came out quickly and was attentive. Lovely presentation of the food. Truffle fries were delicious. Pork was super tender. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was pretty lacking. Not much flavor, mac and cheese had no taste, quinoa was very over cooked and flavorless, and burger had no flavor and unevenly cooked. We know they are pretty new, so we are hoping they work out their food quality, and we'll try again in about a month. It will be so nice to have such a lovely restaurant less than a mile away. read more

The food doesn't live up to the quality and expectations set by the website and prices. That said, the biggest issue was that we ordered the boneless braised beef short rib ($30ish) and were served a chuck roast..a chuck roast. Like the one you throw into a crockpot when you've completely lost the will to live but try (in vain) to rub together your last two brain cells in hopes of firing out a decent dinner idea but all that spits out is a crockpot dinner of defeat. Amazing new place with an interesting and reasonably priced menu. The property has been beautifly restored and updated with impressive dining room featuring a giant oversized fireplace, vaulted ceiling and most amazing chandeliers. There also a very nice bar area. For appetisers we had the nashville chicken and watermellion (great), Wings, and smokes chicken poppers (both excelent). The caprese salad was delightful and the black angus burgus and grilled chicken burger were both outstanding. To top it of the service and view of the golf course were both outstanding (at dinner you can watch the sun set on the golf course). I give it seven thumbs up! read more

A beautiful bucolic location with a very accommodating staff. They definitely have a ways to go. The waitress suggested an appetizer because "it will 20-30 minutes for the entree' " in fact, the appetizer same after the entree.' Near the end of the meal we got our bread. I was excited about going to this place because the reviews looked really good and I wanted a steak. Our reservation was for 7:00 and we didn't get water till maybe 7:20; waitress took forever to come take our orders....it wasn't crowded-we both ordered ice tea, and the unsweetened tea was spoiled. We got bread at 7:45. My husband and I both ordered Caesar salads & the ribeye dinner...well, it all came out at the same time @ 8:15. Hubby's salad did not come with the ranch dressing he had ordered; steak was inferior cut & thin-but cooked medium-rare as requested. The smashed potatoes were good and the asparagus was wonderful. There was tons of staff running around but the service was poor, our server kept apologizing all the time, heard other servers apologizing to their guests, also. My husband finished eating before me and I was still halfway through my meal when she asked if she could bring the check. I looked at her & sighed and she said "oh I'm sorry-no rush". Unfortunately, we spent $100 (before tip) -didn't drink any alcohol; the meal is too overpriced and the service is extremely poor. We won't be back. read more
