We were out on the motorcycles today and needed lunch. I figured just park and wander around until something struck our fancy. We happened to park right across the street from this place. Looked at the menu and decided this was the place. We ordered the Imperial Crab Balls to start. They were perfectly cooked and loaded with real crab, sitting on top of toasted baguette rounds. Then we ordered the Shrimp Salad with Bacon sub. Roll nicely toasted, tons of shrimp, bacon with lettuce and tomato. It was almost like a po' boy, except the shrimp were sautéed not fried. And the garlic truffle potato chips! I would eat a whole bag of those gems. Our server was top notch and the ambience was perfectly funky. We will be back, next time with our whole crew! read more

The Naked Olive Lounge in Berkeley Springs has a lot of character, which already puts it ahead of many places trying very hard to have character and mostly achieving exposed brick. The space has a cozy, slightly speakeasy feel, with plenty of seating at the bar and tables for dinner. The music area is separate from the bar and dining area where we sat, which makes the layout feel lively without having the music sit directly on top of your entrée. There is also a related shop next door, The Naked Olive, where you can buy olive oils, balsamics, tapenades, and other dangerous things you convince yourself are "for later." By the time we were leaving early Saturday evening, they were getting ready for live music, which added to the local, come-stay-awhile feel. We started with a classic martini, and it was excellent. Perfectly balanced, cold, briny, slightly sweet, and served with blue cheese olives. A proper martini is not just a drink, it is a small personality test. We also tried the monthly special, the Dirty Devil, which I believe had bourbon, Coke, and salted caramel. It was good, but the classic martini was the clear winner for me. Service was friendly and helpful. I believe our server was James, and he helped us work through the menu without making us feel like we were preparing for a graduate seminar in small plates. They also honored us with a military discount, which I sincerely appreciated. Food wise, we ordered the Truffled Mushroom Pizza, which was genuinely good, with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and mozzarella. My only note is that the truffle was very subtle, maybe attending more in spirit than in full costume, but the pizza itself worked and I enjoyed it. We also had the Chicken Chesapeake, a sous vide chicken breast topped with crab and Chesapeake sauce. It came with a house salad and house vinaigrette, which was standard but good. As chicken breast goes, the entrée was well cooked, tender, and nicely finished. The crab and seasoning gave it some personality, which chicken breast often desperately needs. The mashed potatoes were hearty and solid. The vegetable du jour was the one underwhelming part of the meal; I am still not entirely sure what it was, and I do not think it was sure either. Overall, I enjoyed The Naked Olive Lounge. It may not be in my top three Berkeley Springs restaurants thus far, but it is definitely a solid entry in the local rotation. The ambiance is warm, the layout is comfortable, the service is friendly, the martinis are legitimately excellent, and the food is good, even if a few details could be stronger. The price point was reasonable, and I would happily come back, especially for a classic martini and live music. read more

While our waitress was super nice and accommodating the food was atrocious. Pizza is actually a premade, store bought flat bread with dumped stuff on it. The mushroom truffle pizza aka premade flat bread crust with stuff on it had no trace of truffle flavor. The braised short dinner with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables was fatty meat with chili tomato sauce on top of it. Mashed potatoes were very starchy and seemed like they sat in the kettle longer than they should have. The bread was their hoagie bread that they use for their sandwiches with some kind of oil on it. It was hard and crunchy. If you're promoting your olive oil, at least bring a side of olive oil to the table with fresh bread to dip in. The side vegetable were just pickled veggies from the can or something. One star for awesome dirty martini made by the waitress. Came here for dinner while visiting the area. My favorite part of the night was the host at the front who was also helping to wait tables (not ours). He was hilarious, and, unfortunately, I don't remember his name. I am super appreciative when I find restaurants serving vegetarian options, especially when restaurants are limited in the area. I got the veggie burger grinder, which while was basic, was also plentiful and satisfying. I got it along with the old bay fries, which were tasty. My boyfriend ordered the truffled mushroom pizza, which came out smaller than expected and also didn't taste much like truffle. He still enjoyed it, but would definitely get a different one next time. All in all, good experience and they have live music Saturday nights. I've eaten there once before a few years ago and couldn't recall whether it was excellent or merely adequate. But there aren't a ton of choices in Berkeley Springs so we were headed there when the "bouncer" (an off-duty cop, with his cop car parked at the curb; since when does a cafe need a bouncer!?) headed us off and told us not to go in unless we had a reservation. I decided to make a quick stop in Berkeley Springs to check it out before I celebrate my Birthday there. Given my allergy to wheat/gluten my dining options are generally limited. The service here was exceptional. Servers and Manager were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The Gluten free pizza was wonderful and the crab balls with Cole Slaw were good too. It's small but comfortable and I loved the art decor (available to purchase). Normally I always have tips for anywhere I eat. Here though, I don't have any recommendations after my visit. It wasn't very busy as I came in between a traditional lunch and dinner time so I can't speak to how they service is when they are busy. I suspect it is still great. read more

It took us 20 minutes to get water until we had to remind them we never got our food. Also had to remind them again when ordering our food, and then when the food came out, the food was bland and unappealing, and I couldn't finish my food. The old lady with the purple hair (who had dementia) took us to our table, and brought 4 cups, and never saw those cups at the table. Do not recommend and did not tip. There was also a hair in my drink and when i returned the drink, they didn't seem sorry about it, and we had to remind them about taking the drink and the piece of hair away. Arrived at 1:15 on a Friday. Seating was immediate, there was the remnants of a lunch crowd. Service was immediate as well. A good selection of alcohol and beer. Ordered the white bean chicken chili as an appetizer. It was very good and not too large a serving to disturb the mushroom pizza The interior is covered with paintings from a local gallery. Okay, so i got drawn in by the hilarious signs, but I would definitely stay for the cocktails!! My wife and I had the marinara sauce dip with half a loaf for an app and the crab pizza for the entree. I can't put my brain around it but the marinara sauce they have is amazing. The loaf of bread they have makes it a lot better. Crunchy outside and soft inside. They also didn't skimp on the crab for their crab pizza!!! As for the cocktails, OMG. I tried the Cara Cara orange vanilla rum soda and it was delicious!! For my second round i figured i'd try something with a bit more ooomph and their Pumpkintini sure brought it!! I think it's seasonal but if you can try theirs, go for it!! The staff was absolutely lovely. I ordered the Chuck Roast Grinder, knowing full well it is a fatty piece of meat. At least a third of this was fat. Despite the fat, the flavor was lovely and the meat that was there was tender and flavorful. The sandwich was tasty (and HUGE), but don't order it if you can't eat that fat. I couldn't eat it. I decided to try the truffle potato chips rather than fries and regret my decision. No one at our table cared for them. I'd suggest maybe offering a sample before offering them as a side. The Dreamsicle mixed drink was exquisite. My party had a hamburger (good, not great), crab pizza (very good), and a charcuterie board that was a hit. The chocolate dessert was very rich and decadent. Literally just walked out of this place. This place has shut down for Covid twice and just recently reopened. So I figured I would take the family in for a light lunch to help a local business. I immediately had to get the food to go because as we were waiting to be served, the owner decided it was ok to allow people to bring their dog TO AN INDOOR EATING ESTABLISHMENT. My kids have allergies and apparently not only was it ok for the dog to be there but ok for the dog to be UP ON THE TABLE (not walking on it but at the edge. I have pictures). When I'm paying $70 for LUNCH, my kids should not have to worry about their animal allergies because people don't care about sanitation. The wait staff was super nice about us getting our order to go but I only tipped on our drinks because we had to ask for our food to go. I will not return though I live a few blocks away. This place is well advertised so we tried it. The vibe was nice. Live music was a plus and appreciated. The menu is primarily pizza and stuffed sandwiches. Robust and creative drink menu. Pretty laidback. Despite the front of the house being well staffed, service was slow. We waited almost 50 minutes before we saw food, including our appetizer, and in that time we were offered drink refills 1x. The pulled pork was dry and mealy served on a dry bun. The other sandwiches were ok. For an upcharge you can get tater tots and those are always a fun side. The dining room was nearly empty when we received our food. We watched every table eat and leave before our food came- we don't know what the holdup was and no one told us. Stopped in for a quick lunch - our first time there. Hubby ordered the steak sliders. He said they were good but he really expected to receive three. I ordered the bacon lasagna appetizer. The bottom layer was Ricotta cheese, layer of extremely thin (ie; inexpensive) cut of not-crisp bacon, tomato pesto and topped with Provolone cheese. It was a little dry but tasted fine. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer; she was the only waitress there but attentive, cheerful and non-frazzled. The atmosphere was nice and cozy and would be a welcome respite on a hot summer day. Not much to pick from in Berkeley Springs WV, but I would eat here again over some of the other places we tried. Staff was friendly and attentive. Drinks were not as good as the reviews led us to believe. Non alcoholic cocktails are available. Food was okay, not bad but nothing special, came out hot and fast, marinara sauce had good flavor.
