Very new Italian restaurant which took over the Boyd's place. Very friendly staff with a knowledgeable chef. The chef Paul Stearman is also involved at the Bistro 112 restaurant in Shepherdstown. Cozy romantic atmosphere with a bar that has history dating back to Al Capone being an owner. Being very new the bar is not fully stocked and the wine list is very limited. While speaking to the chef he mentioned that the wine list will be expanded very soon. The menu will expand as well so there's an expectation of fresh pasta being on the menu at some point as well. So far everything is very good and it sounds like great things are planned down the road. When at the bar, Marie will take very good care of you. She's great to talk to as well. We are so excited to have a new spot in Martinsburg and I think Saretto is a great add to the neighborhood We've stopped in twice prior just to the bar and had a full dinner Saturday in the dinning room. The bar is from Al Caponne's estate dating to the 1920's which is pretty cool. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Shout out to Marie the bartender and Chef Paul. Food was flavorful. I was hoping for fresh pasta and was told there are plans for that in the future. What we ate: * Bruschetta: tomato, garlic, basil, crostini, xvoo * Chicken Marsala: Crimini mushrooms, marsala wine, baby spinach * Putanesca: olives, capers, garlic, onion, parsley, anchovy * Tiramisu: lady fingers mascarpone, espresso, cocoa A few kinks to work out as they get into their groove but a lot of potential. We are looking forward to see the evolution of the spot. The chef plans on fresh pasta and unique specials in the future as well as an expanded Italian wine list. I had the tomato soup and bread with olive oil. The tomato soup was house made from San Marzano tomatoes and was fantastic- easily the best I've ever had and I've been to Italy several times. Italy does have great food. It came with a grilled cheese sandwich that was perfect size. They are now marinating the oil with garlic and Rosemary so it was very tasty. I sopped up the last of the soup with the last of the bread and left with my hunger slaked. I can hardly wait to come back and try more of their offerings. read more

The New York steak is amazing! Chef Paul and his team have skills in the kitchen. Go see Marie at the bar. She's a wizard with the drinks. My wife's favorite is the extra dirty martini, I called it the Julia Roberts Martini(Pretty Woman). You won't be disappointed, if a dirty martini is your thing. See pic. The food was mediocre. The pastas were cooked al dente . There was very little sauce on any of the pasta dishes. There was more than enough meat on the bolognese but no sauce. I found one tomato on my dish. I asked for parmigiana for my pasta and received about one tablespoon. Another person requested more sauce and they were given a small container with approximately two tablespoons of sauce. Swordfish was dry. Two other pastas lacked any sauce. New York Strip according to another friend/diner was very good,''it was delicious". Tomato basil soup was tepid and very acidic. Needed a pinch of of suagar and more cream . It was lackluster. Friends said bruschetta was very good. Service needed work. Appeared that there were only two people working the dining area and bar. Both servers who helped us were pleasant, but not that familiar with the menu. We had a menagerie of drink glasses at the table. None of the wine glasses matched and there were no martini glasses. Both servers appeared overly busy and they were! Please be aware that there are several step ups and step downs to maneuver in the restaurant. There is also a narrow path through the bar to the dining room that has a ledge up to some bistro seating. One friend had a mishap, but she was unscathed. Probably a little achy tomorrow. Bar area is small but very handsome. It deserves a well qualified bartender. Drinks were not good. Dining area is not uncomfortable but needs something , but that's just me. Our server was not well trained . She was overwhelmed and was scarce at times. I am not sure to what to say about the restrooms. Did not discuss women's room with friends so this review does not include any information about them. Men's room was clean but I was not sure where the door was located. The door is different. This is only my feeling but it felt like I was in part of the kitchen or storage area. No plans to visit again. Wish them well and hope they get it together. read more

I expected to like this place a lot, but was disappointed. The atmosphere is beautiful with wooden booths and a bar that would all be comfortable in the 1920s. The server and staff were also quick and really friendly. Some issues were value related. The bread is not included and you get 3 slices of 2.5-3 inch wide iIalian bread for 6 dollars. The Vognole has 8 clams in a $23 dish. My wife ordered the Buccatini with that dish but received the Rigatoni. (before anyone asks we didn't do anything about it because we were hungry). I had the Eggplant Parm. This was the traditional Italian take on the dish which is eggplant cooked in olive oil and topped with marinara and cheese. This said, it is not a take on the dish I enjoy. It is basically a pile of mush lacking the contrast of textures and flavors present in the dish cooked with the parmed breading. 3 slices of Eggplant and sides of broccoli and potatoes. No pasta with it (I know this is also traditional but it would have helped with a little contrasting texture and flavor). Had I known it was this take on the dish I would have ordered something else. I've never encountered it cooked this way in America only Italy. So I did make an assumption. In hindsight I would have ordered the Chicken Marsala which looks amazing. The Tiramisu was very good. What makes this a 2 instead of a 3, is we were both still hungry after dishes that cost around $25 and I ended up making more food when we got home. I would try the place again because the vibe is awesome and maybe we would have better luck with some different menu items. read more

Had to wait a little to get seated but it was too long. Loved the decor and ambiance. I ordered clams with a butter garlic sauce and bucatini pasta. I ended up getting about 6 clams with rigatoni. I ordered a side of bread with olive oil. Only got 3 small slices of bread for $6. That should have been complimentary in my opinion. My husband got eggplant parmigiana but it wasn't breaded and didn't have spaghetti. We didn't know it was an Italian version. The tiramisu was good. My dish didn't taste bad but it wasn't filling and wasn't the right pasta. Too expensive for what you get. Ended up spending almost $70 before a tip for our two dishes, side order of bread, tiramisu, and a coke. Not worth it for me. I liked it better as Boyd's Steakhouse. read more

This is a new restaurant downtown where Boyd's used to be. Paul was our host and was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. NY strip done perfect. Wife's swordfish was very good. SIL said eggplant was excellent . Brother please with traditional spaghetti and meatballs. All entrees reasonable priced and ample. They refer themselves as an Italian restaurant. They do not give your bread for the table. Their portions are very small. The food is not authentic Italian. They called the eggplant as parmigiana but it was not breaded or fried. It was small ends of the eggplant baked plain with sauce and cheese on top. How do they call that a parm??? The chicken Marsala's sauce was thick like a gravy for biscuits. The pasta was lame! I am sorry but for the prices they need to step up the game! Also, the waitress was horrible, she forgot to place one of our entries and kept telling over and over again she took 50% off just that entry. WTF read more

There are goods and bads here. The goods-- The service for 90% of the meal was great. It's new so not jam packed, you can get a table directly. We went on a Friday and sat right down. The Caprese was great. Fresh and good. The Chicken Marsala I thought was great my wife felt it had too much pepper. Tiramisu was good as well. Bar area looks great. Drinks look good. We shared an OK bottle of wine. The Bads-- The Italian bread with olive oil and parm cheese is lacking. 3 PCs of bread is weak. Throw 6-10 PCs on there. It's bread. lol The wine list needs some quality bottles imo. The 10% of questionable service was at payment. We paid in cash and the waitress took laps past our table and looked at the cash at least 8 times. Almost like she was confused on how to finish the transactions because it wasn't payment by card. Overall- I think they are just working out the kinks and will be better. We will definitely go back and give it another go in a month or so. read more

Maybe our expectations were too high, but we found Saretto very disappointing. Not sure what the owners were trying to achieve as to ambience, but don't think they got it right. The dark wood all around looks great, but too dark. The hanging lights at the tables were placed so that you'd either bump your heard into them or the extreme brightness of the bulbs would hit you in the eyes. We also thought the booths were a bit small. As for the waitstaff, I thought they were good. The menu seemed a bit lacking, not much to choose from. I ordered the Caprese, was told they were out. An Italian restaurant that doesn't have Mozzarella and Tomatoes? We ordered bread which was comprised of three small pieces all for the price of $6.00! Most Italian restaurants I've been too the bread comes with the meal. I had the Meatballs which is their Marinara but with three meatballs and $7.00 more expensive. I thought it was OK, but nothing to write home about. We didn't ask to speak with the Chef, but she came out on her own. We spoke for some time about our concerns, and she seemed to take it all in. Some final thoughts: I know Saretto is fairly new and some of my comments may be due to that, but it has the potential of becoming one of Martinsburg leading restaurants. The ambiance, food, pricing needs to be tweaked up. Lighten things up, use tablecloths and cloth napkins so it doesn't have that diner feel, add more items to the menu, tweak up your recipes, have sparkling water available, have a good coffee/espresso machine, better trained waitstaff, add more people in the kitchen, and finally re-think your pricing. Do I recommend Saretto, NO. There are other Italian restaurants in the area that do a better job for less money. I may return in about 6 months just to see if things have gotten better and do a follow-up review. read more

My wife and I tried Saretto last night. This place is so good. We got the bruschetta to start. I got the Chicken Marsala and my wife got Spaghetti with meatballs. The food was incredible. Easily the best Chicken Marsala I've had and the marinara was perfect. They just opened up so there were a few "bumps". They ran out of a few things after we ordered, but we didn't mind at all. We actually tried a new wine because of this and we're so glad we did. We stayed for the comedy show after dinner and all 3 acts were great. We both really enjoyed this place. Extremely limited menu although what they did offer was quite good. Space was unnecessarily dark. $6 for 3 palm sized slices of bread is outrageous, bread should be complimentary. Service was spotty, forgot one ordered item that wasn't brought out until meals were completed. read more
