I loved the Narco Tacos! So much flavor and perfect amount of condiments (onions, cilantro, radishes, salsa etc.) when ordered as is. The salsa was the perfect balance of spicy and salty. Came here on a Thursday night. Yelp says they close at 9 but the worker told me they close closer to 10. This is a food truck. I got the AK 47 fries for $19. Three of us shared it. The chipotle salsa they put on it is spiiiiicy but soooo good. We all liked the fries. The fries were perfect. Slight crunch but soft I. The middle. Not too thick of a cut. Plenty of asada. In face. Recently I was able to try the Taco Cartel truck at the LA Tequila Festival. The line was very long, which usually is a good sign for a food truck. I ordered 1 chicken taco, 1 pastor taco and 1 asada taco so I could taste different things. By FAR, the best taco was the chicken taco. The chicken taco gets 5 stars! However, the asada and the pastor tacos left me a little disappointed. It seems like the asada taco was made with ground beef, which was not what I expected from a taco truck. If it wasn't ground beef, then the meat itself was chopped into really small pieces and I didn't get much of that juicy steak texture I was hoping for. The pastor taco lacked the pineapple flavor that you typically find in pastor street tacos. Usually pastor has a little bit of that grease drip happening, but this taco was pretty dry. I did really enjoy the presentation of their tacos! The crisp and fresh purple cabbage with the purple orchid flower was a really nice touch! Their salsa was also really nice and I like that they served their tacos with a slice of lime. For 3 tacos, it was $13. I would pay maybe $13 for a taco place with rice and beans, so maybe it was a little on the expensive side for what it was. I would maybe give Taco Cartel another try one day, but I don't think I'd drive across town for their tacos. read more

I am currently still eating my bowl and simply couldn't wait to share how delicious it is. We have a new taco truck outside our place every week and this is probably by far one of my favorites yet. The menu isn't super huge but you can tell that quality makes up for quantity - what they do, they do very well. I ordered the "Pablo Escobar" in bowl form and didn't have to wait long at all to receive it. While the bowl appears small at first, I can tell it is a good amount of food that won't leave me hungry (except for the fact that I want more of this delicious flavorful food). The bowl presentation is rather lovely, see photos. The carne asada is SOO juicy! It's ground and goes well with the beans, rice, cilantro and guacamole. I am using the salsa verde (nice cool temperature and not too spicy) I ordered on the side as dipping sauce for the radish slices. The flavors all complement each other so well. It also doesn't feel heavy so I don't feel guilty eating it on a night when I'm not working out. I think I will actually follow this truck around town when I want delicious Mexican food. We opted for Los narco tacos (3 tacos, your choice of meats: we got asada, al pastor, and carnitas), it came with onions, cilantro, red cabbage and your choice of salsa (we got verde) Our favorite was al pastor! Today was this food truck " the Taco Cartel" nice looking food truck, well kept, not all beat up like some other trucks. Staff was pleasant, Food looked good. I had the El Chapo burrito with AL Pastor. (To be honest I wasn't feeling to hot because I had to much coffee before lunch) But the burrito was "GREAT" and actually felt alot better after I ate it. I thought I was going to only eat half and would safe the other half for later. "Boy Please" stop playin' wit me!!!! Mannnnn, you know I went back and ate the other half. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I haven't had any of the other items on the menu (Yet!!) OH, almost forgot.... the prices were reasonable. We have all paid more for worse tasting food. Customer service is great, the lady was nice and the little boy was adorable It's quite pricy but I guess it makes sense assuming they're family run.. The widow quesadilla was great and the salsa was great, only thing I'd say is they only give you a tiny little portion of salsa that's definitely not enough The el chapo burrito is not good. The meat was tough, the egg was severely undercooked and the chipotle salsa was just horrible.. I've never found a chipotle salsa that I didn't like until now. Long story short - we moved to a new apartment building, we've been eating out a lot more and when we heard this truck was going to be in our apartment complex yesterday, we figured we ought to give it a try. It really only gets four stars because prices were a bit high and the wait was super long - but I also do recognize the prices and wait times do tend to be a little more in food trucks. Still I paid $15 for three fish tacos and a hot corn. We took the food back to the apartment and I will say...the food is delicious. I didn't expect the tacos to be so spicy but it was wonderful. I LOOOOOVE spicy food and half the time, the spice isn't that spicy. This definitely was. I would recommend changing the salsa if you aren't into spice because it definitely had me gulping down water. The hot corn was also great, not super spicy but super super delicious. Everything was super filling so that nearly made up for the price itself. I'll definitely try this truck again, totally just depends on the wallet. read more

This week, we had the Taco Cartel stop by. Menu is on the smaller side, 2 styles of burritos, quesadillas, and a couple styles of tacos. My wife went for the Narcos tacos and I sprung for a good old Black Widow Quesadilla. Food was decent and on par with any other taco truck I've been to. Cheese was perfectly melty, has a good portion of meat and and ratio was spot on. Most importantly, (and this is something a lot of taco trucks get wrong)...it wasn't greasy at all. Green salsa tends to be on a the mild side, so ask for red if you're looking for something with a little more kick. All in all, The Taco Cartel serves up delicious food that's quick and easy! What's not to love. Not much in terms of food innovation, but they know their lane and they're sticking to it. Solid choice. read more

They were booked to come to our company for an event. 20 mins before they were to arrive we were informed they couldn't make it because they couldn't find a babysitter. Ummmmmmmmm OK! who cancels 20 mins because an event booked 2 weeks in advance! Totally unprofessional and completely messed up. We had over 100 people ready to try this truck and we were left with no food. I will be going to EVERY social media platform I can find to report how unprofessional and RIDICULOUS This truck is. Our building invites a food truck once a month. Today it was The Taco Cartel's turn. Service was good. We were in and out within 10-15 minutes. Menu is small and straight to the point. The names really captivate your attention lol The hot Cheetos corn on the cob was simply amazing. It tasted like buttery Cheetos popcorn. Perfect. La viuda negra(black widow) quesadilla was pretty bomb as well. Perfectly seasoned meat. All the other ingredients perfectly complemented the carne asada within the tortilla. Flavor explosion. The El Chapo burrito was extremely filling. A little on the spicy side. The egg included definitely adds flavor, otherwise it would have been an unnecessary borderline bland overkill. Overall, not bad. A little on the greasy side. It also felt a little too expensive for the serving size. The quesadilla looked and felt incomplete. The food is okay, it's not bad, it just didn't stand out that much to me, but it's a solid taco truck if you're in a bind. A few things to note, get extra green sauce and an extra lime if you don't like a dry taco. Mine was a little dry, but it was tasty. The elote wasn't good for me. I think they fry it, maybe grill it, but it tasted fried. My preference is boiled. It was also dry, I'm not sure if they put any mayo on it or if it melted off by the time I went up to my office. The dust and crumbs didn't taste that good either. I still ate it, but I much rather have elote that are sold on the streets. I would have it again if I didn't have another option for food near work. I would skip the elote though. read more

I met the Taco Cartel the other night at the Irvine Great Park at an OCSC game. The lines were huge for most of the game, so I waited till the evening was coming to a close and the lines were shorter. I had meal tickets through the game tickets that were supposed to be worth $10. So before I get to the food, let me tell you what miffed me a bit. The other vendors I went to recognized the tickets as having a cash value of $10. Now I could be wrong, but my guess is these work as vouchers; the vendor turns them in at the end of the evening for $10 cash. But The Taco Cartel was running its own cartel here. Rather than letting me order off the menu, they had two "specials" for the tickets that gave you less for the value than what they had on the menu. For example, I wanted a Narco Taco plate of 3 tacos priced at $9. But the woman taking me order offered me the special of two tacos and a soda or a quesadilla. Neither of these, obviously, were equal to the menu items being offered if the ticket had been recognized for its cash value. And they were only offering canned sodas. So while I don't drink soda, I asked if I could have something else...nope. I even offered to forgo the 2 sodas each ticket was entitled to as part of the special for one "other" type of drink. Nope. So while I was treated in a friendly enough manner, the lack of customer service was very apparent. For that reason alone I was pretty miffed. So I got the two taco plate with al pastor meat and one quesadilla with al pastor (pork) meat. The tacos were super hot and tasty, and the quesadilla was good but the al pastor meat seemed more like a chorizo to me, and the thing was just a cheese pie---way too much cheese for my taste. Good and filling definitely, but too much cheese. Also, even though it was the end of the night, it was super slow. As a former cook, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall (well, not exactly a fly, but you get the idea) to watch how things are done inside the truck, as I always like to find inefficiencies and how this can be overcome in the production line. But anyway, that's for another life. Cartel Tacos has good food, but they run it a bit like a cartel without enough regard for their customers. I wouldn't run to find this truck, but if it showed up nearby I'd probably head back over to try something else and give them another chance.
