I love the Taco Stand. My favorite are their carne asada or al pastor tacos volcano style which comes with melted cheese, onion and a generous helping of guacamole. They have a salsa bar in the back This place gets busy so if possible order ahead with DoorDash Enough people grab and go that I always have seen seats available when I have come in
So many wonderful options of delicious tacos. I tried the battered fish, grilled shrimp, steak, mushroom tacos as well as the guacamole. The chips were fried very hard and the guacamole could use some additional seasoning so I didn't finish either of those. The mushroom taco was by far my least favorite but everything else was great! Not lots of space inside and very long line but well worth it. Fish taco 10/10 Shrimp taco 9/10 wasn't a fan of the cheese on it Steak taco 10/10 Mushroom taco 0/10
Cute and colorful interior with clean bathrooms! Their Kitchen space is open and you can see the chefs making the tortillas from scratch! The food was phenomenal! I got the California Burrito and it's definitely one of my favorite CA burritos I've tried, it was so flavorful and juicy. Their Chipotle and Cilantro salsa is GOATED! Would definitely come back and bring friends :)
Took a recent day trip to San Diego and as a lover of Mexican food, I needed to confirm with my own taste buds that SD does have the best California Burrito considering they are the birthplace of my favorite style of burrito. It was a bit overwhelming trying to pinpoint one spot to get one since so many locals online named several different shops testifying they are the best. Luckily we were stopping by Balboa Park anyways and that whole area around it is basically the centerplace of all the burrito spots folks online were talking about. We just chose the Taco Stand since it was first one we were gonna pass by. There was a line out the door and every table was taken at the time but by the time we got in and put our order in, a family outside was already leaving so we got seated as we waited. We only ordered one burrito to share because we were planning to eat other stuff around SD and didn't want to pile it on. It did take a bit of time (around 20 minutes to get our one burrito), but we were able to get settled with all of our salsas and acoutrements at the salsa bar they had. The amarillo and verde salsas as well as the cilantro crema were insanely good and they also had pickled red onions and peppers/carrots which was also nice. The burrito: my goodness it was perfect. I honestly don't think I have ever had a California burrito that balances the meatiness of the carne asada, the creaminess from the guac and sauce, and the crispiness from the fries as well as this one. The fries here seem like they were double fried as well cause it boggles my mind the satisfying crunch that you get from it (part of which also comes from the fried cheese INSIDE the tortilla which is also amazing). It was stuffed to the brim with carne and although I will say I have had better asada, it was damn near A tier. Ultimately this has made me more excited to try other things on this menu and also the other California Burritos around SD next time I am around.

Usually every spot has a signature taco, where for any given style there is usually a spot. I had my fish, carne asada, lengua, cabeza and shaders spots all lined up respectively it now I found the shrimp spot and they make a great al pastor as well. Great food, fast and friendly. Burrito Al Pastor was amazing. Pescada and Pollo Asada tacos were phenomenal !! Went back for chips and guac and used all of the salsas for dipping. The salsa macha had by head sweating after one small taste - Loved it !!!
It's really all about the service at the Taco Stand. The staff create the vibe and elevate the experience. There's always a line so don't plan on eating here if you're the impatient type. Generous portions.
Great tacos! I loved the mahi mahi one. Lots of options and very authentic. They also have a salsa bar so you can go get whatever salsa you want. The tacos were also decent size for the price. They have some indoor and some outdoor seating. All the tacos we had were really great. The burrito looked good too!
Man oh man. im from the bay area and came down to SD for a wedding. We came to the B st location and told Giselle it was our first time and she was so hospitable and truly made us feel welcome! Down to the CHIPS for the guac, everything was so good and the guac was so fresh. Easily top 3 chunky guac. The angus steak in the sonora taco was soooo good and the whole taco was hearty and filling. my absolute favorite was the camaron taco. the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the slaw and chipotle sauce with avocado just elevated it to a completely higher level. id take 5 more back to the bay if i could! S/o to gabby the cook, she got us right! Please open a location in the Bay Area!

Fun little taco restaurant in the San Diego downtown area. There's free street parking right outside that we were lucky though to snag. It's a small restaurant but there's plenty of seating inside and out front. Giselle took our orders and was great at recommending their favorites to us. The tacos were large and prices were very reasonable. Ordered the carne asada and the camaron tacos this time. Orders are made to order. Delicious! We will be back when we're in the area again.
The Taco Stand in La Jolla was one of the best taco experiences I've had in my life, so we had to check out this location in San Diego. This location does not disappoint. We went twice last week. Once on a Wednesday night as dinner for the kids. There was about a 15 minute wait as most ingredients are made to order - fresh corn tortillas and grilled meats. While we waited, we watched the chefs make our food. Upbeat music was playing and the employees were having fun. Kids had trouble finishing their tacos even after me taking my obligatory dad tax. Friday morning, we stopped in as they were opening. It took them a while to get started prepping meats, so unless your order was egg based, you'll have to wait a bit. We waited about 25 minutes being the first customer to get our order in. The food? You have to get their tacos. The fresh corn tortillas, large portions of taco filling, and the plethora of salsa options makes for a very memorable and customizable dining experience. I will usually get some combination of Baja (fried fish), Asada, Camaron, Pollo, and Al Pastor. I don't think you can go wrong with the tacos. They are on the bigger side, so I think most people would be happy with 2-3 for a meal. One item that I thought was just ok was the Pollo Ranchero Burrito. By going burrito instead of taco, you lose out on fresh corn tortillas and get a premade large wheat tortilla. The chicken is the same as the taco - well seasoned with really good char-grilled flavor. The other things were fine - rice, refried beans. I believe there is a convenience factor in just having everything in one wrap, but this burrito was a bit flimsy and a bit of a risk if you're eating it on the go. The TLDR version is come here, eat their tacos, be happy.
We ordered the California burrito and fish taco. The meat was perfect, not chewy at all. The flavors combined real well. The burrito was big enough for two people to share. The salsa selection was decent. The fish taco was okay but I would not order again. Feel like the fish had a fishy taste if you know what I mean. They have Diet Coke They make fresh tortillas I would definitely come back and re-order the burrito and try other tacos.

I love The Taco Stand everywhere and ANYWHERE ELSE other than the downtown location. I accidentally ordered to this location instead my go-to in North Park and was readily reminded of why I avoid this location at all costs. The service is rushed in how they interact with customers, how they prepare your order and evidently with this visit, in how they prepare their ingredients as well. I ordered 3 burritos via online ordering. Came in 20minutes past my expected ready time and still had to wait another 20min onsite. The wait wouldn't have been as irksome if not for the fact that every burrito was hurriedly "wrapped" in foil with bits and pieces exposed due to sloppy wrapping of each burrito. And to top it off, one burrito had pieces of avocado skin WITH THE STICKER and all inside. I was instantly so grossed out at the thought of how carelessly they are preparing their food at this location. Highly recommend any other one of their many locations. read more
Been to a couple of their other locations in SD area but not this one. Cashier was friendly. There's slightly more indoor seating here than the other locations as well as outdoor seating too! Came around 11:45 on a weekday right before the lunch rush so only waited about 10 mins for the food to be prepared. Like their other locations, my tacos had a generous amount of meat. My go-to is carne asada, al pastor, and pollo asado which were juicy and flavorful. Salsa station in the back was convenient and clean. 3 tacos for $13 and was such a filling lunch, couldn't ask for anything more satisfying !! read more
Absolutely worth the hype, these burritos were out of this world! Loved the salsa options and the meat was so tender and juicy, seasoned perfectly. They don't skimp on meat or guac. Food is made to order. Fresh tortillas. It is the best taco shop as a chain restaurant. It isn't "fast" food at all in all honesty it took 20 minutes in line 25 minutes for the food but was perfect time to catch up with family. The food is delicious, grilled chicken to a was great, the fish taco was burnt a little so didn't like that. The steak taco was great. It has about 4 tables outside and a small bar to sit inside. I ordered one nopal and one mushroom taco. Very flavorful, and well priced. The tacos are pretty big and a bit messy! My only complaint is that the nopal felt a little too cold still. It's a very casual environment, you order at the counter then seat yourself. They'll call your name when the order is ready. They have a great salsa bar in the back! Staff and cashier were all very friendly. We got a table by the time our food was ready, but if you're a larger party or come at a busy time, it may be difficult. read more

Love this Taco Stand location. It's always busy, but somehow they still keep the place really clean, which I definitely appreciate! Also, Abby is awesome! She's always friendly, helpful, and does a great job even when they're slammed. Great food and a really solid staff. read more

The Taco Stand is a fast casual Mexican restaurant in Terminal 1 in the San Diego airport. It was a great location to enjoy real Mexican food while waiting for a connecting flight. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The Taco Stand is one of many restaurants in Terminal 1 of San Diego airport. There really isn't much of an atmosphere, because you're in an airport. You can see the workers preparing your order. There's also lots of seating throughout the terminal, but you'll have to look for a free seat or table as there's no dedicated seating for Taco Stand. 1/2 Star. Service - You order at a kiosk. At first, I thought it would lead to long lines, but after standing in line and observing people ordering, I realized it was a faster more efficient way to order. A dedicated Taco Stand server checks the orders, assembles them, then calls out the next name. It's fast and efficient. 1 Star. Food - I was drawn to The Taco Stand because the menu items were more Mexican than Tex Mex (I get lots of this in Texas). While Taco is in the name, I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and chips with guac. First, the guac was made fresh. The avocados were ripe and creamy, but they also a little bland. It could have used more seasoning, but the generous portions of tortilla chips were salty enough to add some more sabor. And the burrito? It was huge. I asked Taco Stand to cut it in half (option in the kiosk). Thank goodness I did, because I got to experience the beautiful cross section of grilled tender carne asada and rice. It was super fresh, big, and I couldn't finish it. 1 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. There are several food options at Terminal 1, but none of them were of interest to me except the Taco Stand. Fantastic tacos. Way better than Tacos El Gordo. The line can be intimidating, but orders crank out faster than you'd think. Always a must when stopping by San Diego. Small, but lively environment, mix of indoor and outdoor seating, chill vibes all around. Fun fact -- during my first time to SD a few years ago, I was exhausted and Doordashed a burrito from them to my hotel. It was my first meal in SD and it was excellent. Swore that I'd pop into the restaurant during the next visit and boom. Here I am. I got their al pastor and their baja tacos. Ain't nothing like an SD fish taco. Simple but sexy. Veg and sauce are proportionate to the meat making each bite perfect. The tortillas are probably my favorite tortillas of all taco spots. Pliable, fatty, and hits just right. Ventured off and tried one of their "secret menu" items: the Carne Asada Volcan, which essentially is a tostada with melted cheese, asada, guac, onions, cilantro, and some mild salsa. It's heavy but delicious. Would order again. Three's your magic number here to feeling content. That's a solid trinity of items I got. 5/5 would come back every time I'm downtown. read more
Of all the taco places we tried while on our visit to San Diego, this one was my favorite. They have a salsa bar with a hood wide variety, the also have pickled onions and carrots. The salsa variety here was great and I really enjoyed the salsa verde they had here. We ordered a variety of tacos and burritos to try as well as a bag of chips. It was a legit sized bag of chips that was quite large. They had run out of the cactus tacos which we had wanted to try. All in all a great place for tacos and this one stands out from the others for the salsa bar. read more
This was the last stop of my Gaslamp Taco Crawl. I was really looking forward to this place. It came highly recommended from my buddy. Let's start with the service. The manager or counter guy was extremely rude and just seemed like he didn't want people to be there. As soon as we walked in he said, "it's a 30 minute wait for food. I hope you're okay with that." Not in a concerned way though. In an annoyed way like a please leave kind of way. Multiple customers walked out while we were there because of him. I ordered the Al Pastor taco and a side of chips. The chips were a little over salted but had great crunch to them. I wish they came out hot and fresh like Taco Centro but they did not. They were pre-boxed. The salsa bar was okay, I had heard really good things about their salsa but I wasn't blown away. The Al Pastor taco was pretty good though, the tortilla tasted very fresh and the Al Pastor was seasoned well. I like the pineapple strings the included on the taco. I do wish it was crispier though. My wife got the Pollo Asado and it was pretty good, but again not great. I feel like this place was just over hyped in my mind. read more

Small place and packed with people. Despite ordering the food was quick, the line was long and very disorganized. Many ppl keep going up to find out what number is at. Took more than 40 mins to get the order. There's a salsa bar with pickled onions and jalapeños. Off to the food review. 4/5 - Carne Asada Taco - Loved the huge pieces of carne asada that has a charred outer crust but tender on the inside. Perfectly seasoned. Not the biggest fan of their salsa selection but damn the taco well made up for it. Cilantro and salsa help add some acidity to balance out the oiliness. This was our first time visiting this location, and it did not disappoint. The location is so convenient from the hotel we were staying at, just caddy corner across the street. We ordered off of their online ordering website, and within 15 minutes our order was ready as promised. The food was well packaged to-go. The food quality and taste are probably the best with the best value in price for the portions you get. The California Burrito is filled with tasty ingredients and we also added extra sour cream for no extra cost. The shrimp quesadilla is also oozing with lots of cheese and shrimp. This is a must when visiting San Diego at anybody their locations! read more

Are there still gluten free options safe for celiac?
You should call them to confirm, but they should have quite a few gluten free options. Their standard taco is made with fresh corn tortillas made to order. However, the burritos looked like they were all made with a large pre-made wheat tortilla.
