Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. She was friendly, attentive, and helped us pick some really good dishes. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). I received very bad service while ordering and picking up my order. I ordered pickup on DoorDash. I was informed they would be making the food and accepted the order. Why would you accept an order then not make it until someone gets there??? I got there and they told me it hasn't been made and will be made once I arrived. Why? Idk but the girl was rude about it. I also got the sampler that has multiple different things. It was all mashed up in one box. The whipped cream melted on all the savory food. The savory food made the sweet food not great. This place has a VAST difference in service, swiftness, ambiance, and level of customer service compared to the location in Coronado. I literally LOVE the La Jolla location. The workers are always nice, always accommodating, and having common sense. Please fix this as the other location is way better. Cocina 35 is a popular Mexican brunch spot in San Diego, with 3 locations in the area. I secured a reservation online for Sunday, and I'd recommend that given it does get busy. Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. I visited on a Saturday morning. There are metered parking all around and some 2-hr parking in the neighborhood. If you don't have a reservation, expect to wait 30 minutes or more. We ended up in the outdoor seating area. It is spacious and comfortable, but it can get a bit chilly outside. For food, the chilaquiles al pastor was great. It comes with a delicious crema, and the spice really creeps up on you! We also ordered the ranchero chilaquiles. It tasted good, but felt like it was a bit light on the chorizo. You can ask for their hot sauce for some extra kick. We also ordered the fresca flight. It was a fun concept to try all their fresca but they're really tiny. The mango flavor was our favorite. The other flavors were more watery. We finished with the churros con cajeta, which were exceptionally tasty. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive and checked in on us often. Back again!!! Decided to take a wild day trip to San Diego to take my kids to the zoo, and Cocina 35 was of course my breakfast of choice. Absolutely wonderful just like my first visit, this time I opted for a sampler plate and was not disappointed. Both times I have been in San Diego this meal lasts all day long.... The restaurant is very pretty and has a great overall vibe. Parking is either street or paid lots, but luckily we went on a Sunday when street parking downtown was free, which made things easier. We felt a little underdressed at first, but we were told there's no strict dress code, which made us feel much more comfortable. I have three kids, and each of them was given a colorful bag with a tic-tac-toe game and a paper they could color. They loved it and stayed entertained the whole time! It was such a nice touch and different from the typical kids' coloring sheets you see at most restaurants. I will say they don't offer the usual chicken tenders and fries on the kids' menu, but that didn't stop us--we were happy to try something new for them. Our experience with the waiter and every staff member we interacted with was nothing short of amazing. It's clear the owner paid attention to every single detail when creating this place. The food here is always delicious. It's always fresh and full of flavor. I recommend getting the Tochomorocho instead of a full order of Chilaquiles. The Tochomorocho has a smaller portion of chilaquiles with your choice of sauce, huevos rancheros, sweet corn tamale, and a side of beans. It's $24.00, which is about the same you'd pay for Chilaquiles with a protein or eggs. My big complaint is that the prices have gone up quite a lot in the last year. $20 for chilaquiles is just a bit much. Anyway, this place is super popular. There was a line when we arrived at about 11:30 California time (1:30 our time). We gave our name and waited about 15 minutes. We used that time to study the menu and by the time we were called, we could hardly wait! Everything looked so good. I had the burritos with pibil pork with mild red sauce. They were superb. The wife had the combo platter which was huge. I don't remember everything but there were 5 or 6 separate items and she ate them all! The sweet corn tamale stood out my mind. The chilaquiles with red sauce was really good and had a slight kick. The kid had an eggs and French toast plate and ate it all! We had churros for dessert although we were totally full and they were superfluous. Service was very good. Jaceline was friendly and professional. Ambience is pure Mexican. The "this is how our abuela made them" in the description got me. Comes with chorizo on top. Super good flavors and filling portion. My partner built his own chilaquiles and it looked amazing. Didn't do my research and found out they do not serve alcohol at this location, although I know they do at the others. Luckily we had a reservation, because this place fills up FAST. We ate indoors which was nice, but they do also have a nice sized patio. I got the cajeta Latte which is basically a caramel latte - it was creamy and delicious. Loved our visit to Cocina35.. even by the wait time, we knew we were in for a treat. As a bit of a pro-tip, make a reservation via OpenTable so you don't have to wait in the standby line. Even with our reservation, we waited 15 mins for our table and to be seated. The decor is modern and gives upscale resort.. the restaurant located in downtown and was a short walk from our hotel. There is plenty of public parking nearby. Me: The Los Rancheros with my eggs scrambled and a mimosa flight. Both were fresh and delicious. I almost cleaned my plate and I probably should have since I definitely drink all the mimosas. They do not provide you an estimate time and the worst part is, I saw an employee do something that left a bad taste in my mouth. When I went online, there were plenty of reservations but I was already next so I wasn't going to make one. Would have been nice to know! They got called up immediately which sucked lol okay back to the food and service Service was good at first, as the server recommended certain dishes. We chose what she recommended but asked for extra sauce since we thought our chilaquiles were dry, and she got a slight attitude with us. They advertise to be the best chilaquiles in town, but to me, they were super basic. I ended up getting the Sinaloense sampler platter so I'll rate everything separately. corn tamale - 8/10. Good flavor but could have used more corn to solidify the flavor. Habanero crema Chilaquiles - 5/10 . Not enough sauce, no spice to them, and taste was not great. I added eggs to these but I would skip these. Machaca - 2/10 . Meat was really dry and lacked flavor Beans - 2/10 . Never thought you can mess up beans but boy was I wrong lol watery like a soup but lacked flavor. Overall, I would skip this place to be honest. The outdoor seating was very nice and had plenty of room for many parties. Our waitress Keyla was very friendly and helpful despite being very busy with serving many other tables. For my food I got the Del Mercado Chilaquiles which was pretty good. The chips and eggs were a good combination along with the meat. I had gotten the horchata for $7 which is fairly priced considering the size of it. The churros for dessert was very good and filling. Cocina 35 continues to impress. The food is consistently outstanding and the service is warm and attentive. On this visit, I had the torta ahogada de cochinita -- absolutely amazing. The cochinita was tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with the sauce. Every bite had depth and authenticity. I also tried the Los Rancheros chilaquiles, which were delicious -- great texture, bold flavor, and well-executed. To drink, I had an agua fresca de limón that was incredibly refreshing, along with a café de la olla that rounded out the meal perfectly. Everything from flavor to presentation was on point. My only and biggest disappointment is the wait time at the downtown San Diego location. If you don't have a reservation, expect to wait an hour or more to be seated. That definitely takes away from the overall experience, especially when you're looking forward to a relaxed breakfast. That said, this is still one of my favorite spots for Mexican breakfast -- honestly, one of my favorite breakfast places in general. The quality of the food keeps me coming back. I cannot even count how many times I passed this place and there was always massive line of people waiting outside. Curious enough, we decided to give this place a try on a Saturday morning. Of course, once we approached the venue line was out of the door. We noticed signs saying that no estimated time will be given and we braved ourselves for long wait. Found this place on tik tok, and wanted to try it out to find out if it was worth the hype. When we first walked in, the aesthetics of the restaurant were absolutely beautiful and loved the whole vibe of the restaurant.
