We stopped by Breakfast Republic for breakfast while we were in town for Comic-Con, and it quickly became one of my favorite breakfast spots in downtown San Diego. My wife ordered the sampler plate, and I had the Eggs Benedict. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Don't skip the specialty lattes--they were outstanding and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The prices were also very reasonable, especially compared with many of the restaurants near the Convention Center. The combination of great food, fun atmosphere, and good value makes this place an easy recommendation. I heard they're closing a few locations, so I'm really hoping this one stays open because it's a total gem. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in San Diego! read more

I love pancakes! But, I'm on a high protein, low-carb and low-calorie diet. And, gluten-free. So, what can I do? I can go to Breakfast Republic. They have protein pancakes that are low calorie and gluten-free. And, they taste pretty good. Not as good as their regular pancakes, but, good enough to satisfy my pancake craving. I have breakfast there one or two times a month. I always have the same thing - protein pancakes and decaf coffee. And, the portion is so huge that I take most of it home and have the pancakes for breakfast the next several days. Enough about the pancakes. Let's talk about the service, which is what compelled me to write this review. A few months ago I sat down and my server, Erick, came up to my table and said, "Protein pancakes and decaf?" I was blown away! He remembered me and my order. I am not that regular a guest. He is just that amazing. And, it doesn't stop there. A few minutes after delivering my food, he brought a to-go box, because he knew I always take most of my meal with me, and I'm always in a hurry. That's not great service - that's extraordinary service! At one to two times a month, Erick makes me feel like a 5 day a week regular. First time here because of SDCC 2026!! My hubby decided to give this place a try this morning as our hotel is close by...so happy he did! This place is such a vibe! It's so unique and different inside with whisks as lights! So cool! Well, to me I loved it. And of course, with great vibes, comes great breakfast too!! I ordered their Shrimp and Grits plate, and I haven't had such great grits since I was in the South(years ago)!!! I just love the smoothness and the texture of the grits and just a slight spiciness, not too hot. Mmmmmmm! Chef's kiss!! I also love the prints on their plates/bowls and coffee mugs! I recently took a trip out to San Diego for an appointment and stopped by Breakfast Republic; and wow, everything was absolutely delicious! The interior is super organized, and I loved that they have a full bar area as well. We started with some mimosas, which were fantastic and the perfect kickoff to breakfast. For food, I ordered the Vegan Tres Leches Pancakes, and they were incredible. They were so naturally flavorful and moist that they barely even needed any maple syrup; the combination of the pistachio brittle and vegan buttercream on top was perfect on its own. My friend ordered the Shrimp and Crab Cake Benedict and loved it. He said it was packed with flavor, not dry at all, and didn't taste overly fishy; just perfect in every way. To top it all off, our server was so sweet, checked on us often, and was incredibly proactive throughout our meal. Great food, great drinks, and excellent service. I will definitely recommend to vegans and non vegans. Just to clarify for anyone looking to visit; Breakfast Republic isn't a fully vegan restaurant, but they do have a fair amount of great vegan options clearly marked on the menu. read more

Probably the best breakfast I've had in California! Very creative combinations! I like how they are able to make adjustments and have so much variety. The breakfast jambalaya was good although they may have been a little dry, but the poached shakes were very tasty. The Jurassic Park bacon was an ample portion and pleasantly decadent. I miss having true Portuguese sausage from my last trip to Hawaii and this version did not disappoint. The freshly squeezed orange juice tasted great although it was in a pretty small glass and was not bottomless. I did enjoy trying the cocky 12 iced coffee that is served over ice cubes made of coffee, which was good, but nothing extraordinary and very pricey. Our total bill for just two people was close to $100. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was busy and there weren't that many servers. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. We started with their in-house freshly squeezed orange juice and the Breakfast Republic specialty latte with vanilla, chai, and mocha. Both were delicious. The OJ was refreshing, and the latte was comforting. For food, we ordered the Hot Chick Benedict and their Chilaquiles. The ambience and vibe is always cool and very industrial looking yet warm and inviting. Hubby and I shared an omelette. Service was quick to the point but personable and the food came out rather quickly. The only complaint I would have is that I usually like my omelettes to have their cheese melted. This omelette was more like a frittata folded over so that's just a personal dislike. Parking was easy on an early Sunday morning and free to boot. Once it opened up, they helped us move and merge the tables, which was really kind and accommodating. Food wise, I tried the pancake flight (Oreo, strawberry cheesecake, and cinnamon). Oreo wasn't my favorite, cheesecake was solid, and the cinnamon was the star. The California burrito was a miss for me very potato heavy, a bit dry, and the sauce didn't add much. We didn't have to wait that long for our table because we asked about a little table in the corner that you could easily be forgotten about.. Most of them were not bused/cleaned yet. Once we were finally seated, the sat us at a large booth with 2 other people. When the wait staff came to take our order, we told them that we weren't together and that the host who seated us said that this was a community table. The wait staff advised us, it wasn't a community table, just a large booth and that the host shouldn't have seated two parties at the same table, so they moved the other two people. We were fine sharing the large table, but they moved them anyways. Our wait staff was super friendly and chatty. Loved the service. I ordered a benedict which was pretty average, didn't really care for the potatoes, and the banana foster french toast was a bit on the chewy side. The food wasn't really worth the wait.
