Visiting from CT for a family memorial service early this morning and after being on the road for hours and truly exhausted, was greeted by the friendliest of smiles by Amanda at the Front desk and then then pointed me to the restaurant. Upon entering The Tavern Inn, Shannon immediately offered a nice hot cup of coffee (which I soo needed). My husband and I came back for lunch and we were greeted by my morning g friend, Shannon, and Glenda at the bar, and we had the burger and fries which was so Juicy, tasty and awesome! We went back to the restaurant for dinner, and I personally requested Shannon as our waitress/server. Her smile is infectious and she helped me reclaim my favorite umbrella that I left behind earlier! For dinner, we ordered the Bavarian pretzel sticks as an appetizer (so yummy), and I had the cod special which was delicious and my husband had the mushroom cavatappi. Great recommendations for dinner....! This place is a gem! The staff is amazing, the food is awesome and reasonably priced, great ambiance, and the service matches the best of any 5 star restaurant. Had a frustrating experience with the restaurant staff. Arrived around 6:40 for dinner and asked for a table by the windows. The hostess told us that all five empty tables were reserved for a large group, then put us at a two-seater next to the kitchen door. We expected the tables to fill up at 7:00 but only one did. By 7:40, when we were paying the check, three of the tables were occupied. Obviously there was never a large group reservation, or even individual reservations. Asked to speak with the restaurant manager, and explained the situation. She admitted right away that the hostess probably did it for server convenience and not reservations. And she DID NOT CARE. She said I should have told her right away, and then she could have put us at a window table. Ummm...why would I initially think the hostess was lying to us about the tables being reserved? Overall some great things and some okay things: They have a large outdoor seating which is nice. I got the steak and it was cooked very well. The bread was good. My dirty martini was tasty. Service was friendly Some things they good do better: It wasn't very busy and the food and drinks came out slow. The fries were just okay. Had a nice lunch at The Tavern at the Colgate Inn. We ate the corn chowder soup and Caesar salad. The soup is creamy and made from local sweet corn with potatoes and bacon. It is hearty and delicious on a chilly day. The salads were crisp with tasty Caesar dressing, shaved Parmesan, and big croutons. With great outdoor seating at the Colgate inn, the Tavern is great for lunch or dinner, or even just grabbing a beer at the bar. The burger and fish came out quickly and the service from the staff was attentive while dealing with several others. In terms of price, this is a pricier option in Hamilton for the quantity of food. My suggestion is to go to the bar or "the library" their speakeasy and grab drinks here for the experience and to see the beautiful inn and grab food in the town to continue exploring. read more

Came for lunch. The Colgate Inn Tavern once was very good. Haven't been here in years, but decided to give it a try since there are limited dining choices in Hamilton, NY. My friend and I started with the soup of the day, loaded potato soup. Arrived luke warm after a 20 minute wait. Decided not to send it back to reheat, because we had already waited 20 minutes! If it had been HOT, it would have been really tasty, if it had been hot. We also ordered the endive and golden beet salad, which showed up 15 minutes after the soup. When not familiar with food establishments in a town, I always seek a place with a 4+ rating in Yelp, and have never been disappointed! That includes this place! Oh my! The soup of the day for lunch was French Onion, and I think it was the best I've ever had! Definitely top 3. The turkey panini was excellent also. And the chocolate chip cookie skillet dessert was just the right size - and fantastic! I will be back here! My server was Shannon, and she was also fantastic- attentive, and served the food with perfect timing - I wasn't rushed to finish any part of my meal, and the next item was served upon completion of the former. Beyond disappointed!! The new menu is not worth your while. Way over priced...putting low priced ingredients in trendy bowls and over charging for them is offensive. An embarrassing money grab in my opinion. This establishment would be smart to consider a summer menu for locals using products from local farms! Ate here for dinner and breakfast. The food is fantastic, the Waygu burger was flavorful, juicy and well prepared. The pretzels were obviously made fresh in house, slightly crisp on the outside but doughy and spongy inside. The wine list is well thought out, and has some seriously well priced gems if you know what to order. The next morning my 16 year old son said it was at the level of the Michelin starred restaurant I am a partner in. The biscuits and gravy were extremely well prepared. Service was friendly and attentive, and speed was what you should expect from a restaurant like this. Actually, breakfast came out much quicker than I would have expected. I would highly recommend the tavern. We were staying at the Colgate Inn, but we almost did not eat here because of the recent negative reviews. Yummy! The maple glazed salmon had amazing flavor and was cooked perfectly. The house cut fries with garlic aioli were very good as well. The scallops in the scallop risotto were very flavorful and well cooked, but the actual risotto had a bit of an odd flavor. Overall, though, a delicious meal finished off with a warm cookie skillet. I have to be honest, the food was okay. Nice atmosphere and it is the only place open after 8:00? Nice selection of before dinner drinks. I especially liked my n/a beer. I ordered the strip steak. Cooked as I ordered and was no seasoned well. Oh no, served with instant potatoes? And while the carrots looked nice they were too undercooked. My son ordered the rib eye and felt it was overdone. He had asked for the potatoes to be swapped out for the wild rice. That didn't happen but we let it go at the time. A starch is a starch. His haricots were also undercooked. I had a great mid-week visit to Colgate and dinner at the Tavern was perfect. Sitting by the fireplace, my daughters and I enjoyed a leisurely dinner. You know...it's one of those places that I have often overlooked but super glad to have stopped in. I am not normally a tavern type of girl, looking for normal fare (burgers, fries, sandwiches). First of all...the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The bar is beautiful, and there are plenty of tables. Second of all, they have home made pasta. We both ordered this - but different preparations. So glad we did. It was really delicious with plenty to bring home. Highly recommend the Greek app too. So much to share - you could even order that as a meal. We went to the tavern this morning for brunch with our daughter. We were told it was a buffet --not my favorite but oh well, the place is super charming so why not. Well, the buffet bins were pretty empty, the eggs were crumbly and dry, there was no bread to go with the toaster, etc. We asked when more food would come out and they said a big group had just come through so we would have to wait for more food. We waited a while and then just ate the little that was there and then we (3 of us) were charged $100 (no alcohol just coffee). Ridiculous. Will not be going back. read more

Just got lunch to go here and I'd asked if they could put chipotle aioli on the side if they had it / if not no problem -- when I picked it up, the girl told me they didn't have it so she made her favorite 3 different dips for me to try. The caramel sauce for the sweet potato fries was really good and I never would've ordered that on my own. I took a trip to Upstate NY recently and wanted to find a nice restaurant to start the weekend. I found this restaurant on the Resy app and decided to take a drive. It definitely is in a remote area (I am from the city), but it is a hidden gem! Located in The Colgate Inn, which is a cute little hotel. I would have stayed at this hotel if I would have known. The staff is super friendly they make you feel like home. You definitely don't need to dress up for this place. The place was super clean and they have huge servings. I tried their mussels in butter which was soo good and their NY strip steak with summer veggies and corn. The NY strip steak was the biggest piece I have ever had, you can definitely split it between 2 people. The quality of the food was really good and our server made us a special drink- a summer old fashioned and made us feel at home. Definitely check this hidden place out! read more

Saturday afternoon (8.21)on a tour of Colgate we came in for lunch and were fine with a wait but it was clear the staff didn't have a handle on things as we waited for nearly 30m while empty tables were not bussed or just left clean but unseated.
