Mother's Cupboard is another staple I always have to visit when I come back to Syracuse. It reminds me so much of a homemade breakfast. They cook the food right in front of you on the griddle behind the counter, which adds to that comforting, family style feel. It truly feels like a neighborhood spot. You see a lot of the same faces every time you come in, the service is always quick, and the food comes out fast, hot, and consistently good. I have never had a bad experience here. I love the loaded potato omelette and I always try different French toast or pancakes with whatever toppings they have available. They usually have specials going on and I really enjoy switching it up each time. Just a heads up that this is a cash only place, so make sure you bring cash with you. They do not have an ATM inside, but there is a bank around the corner if you need to take money out. I was thinking about getting 1/2 frittata but decided on 2 eggs over easy, with kielbasa, home fries with onions and Italian toast. Stopped by on my way out of Syracuse, ordered the Macmother with ham and 1/4 order of home fries with onions to go. I was initially worried the breakfast sandwich wouldn't be enough food, but the sandwich was pretty big and 1/4 order of the home fries was still a very generous portion, took up about half the take out box! Everything was seasoned well and really tasty, and only took about 10 minutes. Pro-tip: do NOT sleep on the cinnamon roll, sliced in half and toasted with butter, it's one of the best cinnamon rolls I've had yet! read more

My partner ordered a chocolate chip pancake with sides of sausage and bacon. I ordered the half frittata with cheese. The food came quickly maybe 15 minutes. The frittata is huge. Don't get a whole, unless you want a tshirt and are insanely hungry. The half was enough for two meals for myself. The Italian toast is the way to go. My partner liked her massive pancake that was probably a foot wide. I had a couple bites and it was pretty freaking good. She only ate half. Came to 35 and change for what amounted to two meals for the both of us. Good value if you ask me. I will say the sides of sausage and bacon were 5 dollars a pop so that was a little much if you ask me, but you get your moneys worth with the main meals. This is one of the best hidden gems of the Syracuse area! The exterior is unassuming and the place itself is kind of hidden so you need to truly know what you're looking for to find it. When we went, it was the brunch rush so there was about a 15 minute wait, which is absolutely worth it! Just a word of warning: when people say they have large portions, they aren't exaggerating. The whole frittata here is 6lbs of food for 16.95 (without cheese) and it can feed 2-3 people. They even have a challenge for it: if you can finish it in one sitting by yourself you get a t shirt and your picture on the wall of fame. The current record for fastest finish of it is around 7 minutes. Anyway, I ordered the half frittata with cheese and it was fantastic!!! It's made up of pepperoni, sausage, eggs, green and red bell peppers, home fries and broccoli and the combination is absolute heaven! They're extremely generous with everything too plus it's served with your choice of bread (go for the Italian)! I was able to polish off the half frittata but for most, the quarter is more than enough good food. We also got their ridiculously huge pancake (it's a foot across!!!) and it was, unequivocally, the best and fluffiest pancake I have ever consumed!!! Food was on time, $21 WOWZA...!!!! I very seldom eat out since Covid and I rather cook my own stuff cause we are pretty conscious about what we put in our bodies. Get Home ... 1st issue they put the two very small slices of Italian bread IN THE TAKEOUT CONTAINER..!! Who does that it was completely wet. 2nd it looked like nothing but HUGE hunks of broccoli and potatoes and big slices of peppers then to top it all off LOADS OF CRACKED PEPPER I MEAN LOADED I CANT EVEN EAT IT.... My friend brought me to this place. Looks extremely small on the outside. It is small but not as small as it looks from the outside. We got a table in the corner. My coffee cup and silverware were not clean lol, but I used it anyways. The servers were running around like crazy. The cook was going ham on the grill, I have no idea how he was able to keep up. I ordered a special, kielbasa, 2 eggs, fries and wheat toast (never received it). My friend got some new stuffed French toast. The orders didn't take long at all. I was a little disappointed with how little of kielbasa I got and how my plate was mostly potatoes. I wasn't much of a fan of the potatoes, I felt like it was missing seasoning, they didn't have much flavor. (That or I'm getting sick, who knows). I also never received my wheat toast lol. I've been here many times but it's been awhile. I had some time on Monday so in between appointments I stopped for breakfast. It's a super small place so I was hoping I could get in. I ended up sitting at the counter and was greeted immediately. It was nice to see that they had a full staff of waitresses but only one cook. That one cook was slamming out food and you could tell he knew what he was doing. I ordered the western omelet with home fries and toast. I had my breakfast in 10 minutes and it was huge!! I would have liked my eggs more fluffy in the omelet but it was very tasty with a good amount of ham on onions inside. The home fries had seasoning on them but I couldn't make out what it was? I LOVE Mothers Cupboard! My husband and I used to come all the time when it was just the two of us, since it gets so crowded it's tough to bring 2 young kids. However, we went this past weekend and it wasn't that busy (thank you to the snow and cold) so we stopped in. I got their famous pancake! I always get the banana chocolate chip pancake and it was so good! My husband got eggs, sausage , home fries and toast. We were greeted right away and sat at a table right away. They did have a high chair (which I didn't know if they would). Their food is always so good! The only thing is that it's a little cold in there and very tight space. Very limited seating but the food comes out so fast and hot, they really get you in and out which is awesome! It has a very home feeling and vibe, a place where everyone knows everyone.
