We had an excellent experience here on Monday morning. Great food, great service and great ambiance! We were impressed. The Tavern sits inside Hotel Croydon in Miami Beach. Just look for the black & white umbrellas and the entrance to Tavern is there. We chose to sit indoors because it was windy that day. We loved the decor inside: high ceilings, dark woods, low lights, artwork, high up shelves with interesting objects on them, comfy leather booths and chairs, and a cool looking bar with black & white decor and bright red high tops. I have to compliment them on their wise choice of 80s music. Most everyone in there was singing along and moving to the beat including us! Dress code is nice casual. Our host and severer, Carlitos, warmly welcomed us and immediately took us to our table. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made good recommendations. He took very good care of us. My daughter and I both ordered the Golden Classic Benedict. It was amazingly delicious! The best that I've tasted in years. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the yolks were soft like we wanted. The Bernaise sauce was delicious! The Canadian bacon was a good cut and tasty. The English muffin was toasted perfectly. The potatoes were seasoned nicely and browned lightly on the outside. What a great breakfast/brunch! We also ordered 2 hot vanilla lattes to go with our breakfast and they were just right. I can't believe we did it but we split a Nutella Pancake with blueberries and strawberries on it. It was perfection. We did not eat dinner that night. We were just fine from our breakfast! During a recent work trip, we actually wound up coming here a couple times for breakfast and lunch! They have ample outside and inside seating and the staff is pretty quick and attentive. We went here for dinner and sat outside. It was a really amazing vibe and cool atmosphere. I ordered the Grilled Churrasco which was amazing and perfectly cooked. I got it with veggies and fries. Our waitress, Stefany, was so sweet and pleasant and she even came up to us (after a different waitress brought our food to us) and said "they didn't give you enough fries, I'll bring you more fries" and she brought us another bowl of them. The fries were really delish too. My partner got the Prime Short Rib over mashed potatoes with veggies and it was huge and really tasty! We stopped by The Tavern since it was busy but conveniently just a short walk from our room. The atmosphere felt lively, though it did get pretty crowded. I ordered the avocado burger. The bun-to-patty ratio was great and the avocado was fresh, but the patty itself could have used more seasoning, and it was a bit wetter than I'd like with the salad mix. The chicken wings were solid,nothing spectacular but cooked through and with a nice crisp on the skin. The fries, however, came out on the dry side and really needed a side of ranch or ketchup to help swallow. Our waiter Hassan was friendly and tried to connect, but at times it felt a little awkward. Never came to refill our drinks or anything ,but did peak in on us to see if we were done. Overall it's a decent spot if you need something close by and don't mind a casual, somewhat noisy vibe. We were staying at Croydon (attached hotel) and decided we would go to the Tavern for lunch. We decided to split the smashburger and a order of the chicken wings. We've stayed at Croydon in the past and always skipped Tavern due to its low Yelp reviews but i gotta say i DONT SEE the terrible food and service??? Both were excellent. Burger, fries, wings, and drinks were all above expectation. Server was great, outside seating was great, and had a decent amount of customers for a Thursday afternoon... DONT go off of the 3 star Yelp review! The Tavern is definitely above the 3 star reviews, I think its people coming here expecting to be getting a 5 star lobster and caviar fine dining experience on a broke budget lol... I ordered the chef's Mahi Mahi which was good. Also had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc which was not good, but there weren't many options on the list of wines by the glass. Restaurants in Miami Beach tend to automatically add a service charge of 20%. This place added a service charge of 6% and a gratuity of 14%, and the server explained that any extra gratuity I added would go directly to her. So I did feel pressured into adding another tip. The difference between the 6% service charge added and the 14% gratuity added is that the tax is calculated on the subtotal that includes the 6% service charge. So that 6% service charge is like the Healthy SF surcharge that many San Francisco restaurants add ranging from around 4% to 7% (but not all, because a minority of SF restaurants include those costs into their menu items prices). read more
