First time visiting Miami, last time visiting the Tavern! There are a few things I look forward to in an establishment: ambiance, service and food/drink. We struck gold with the ambiance, drinks were good, service was a little busy, without support of management. Ultimately, it was my wife and I visiting S.Beach for the first time, and this was our last stop prior to the hotel we were staying at for our trip. Staff was stressed, with no support and the personnel supporting/training had no guidance. We did not see our cocktails being $25 ea. as the steak house down the street charges $16 for the same thing 36% more!, not sure why with lack of attention to the guest. When I received the bill, there was an added a $2 charge for cheese. In Miami for a weekend getaway, this location was recommended by a local of the area, we visited for dinner. Let me just say, 10/10. From the moment you walk up you can tell it's going to be a great experience. Hostess was very nice, gave us the option to sit outside or inside. We sat outside (wait time was less than 5 minutes for a Sunday around 7pm) the weather was great for it. Music playing in the background made it all come together. Such a vibe. The menu had a variety of things to choose from. For appetizers we chose the Fried Calamari and my Entree dish was the Arron Con Pollo. Seasoning was on point. Located at the Oceanside Hotel in Miami Mid-Beach, The Tavern offers eclectic scenery, a truly America menu, and a pleasant dining experience. We sat outside, because it was a beautiful Miami day and we really appreciated all of the greenery mixed with some sassy signage telling people not to smoke around these parts. The service was quick and the waiter was very kind. I ordered the Roasted Vegetables, which is just like it sounds: A TON of roasted veggies. They were roasted in butter and could have used a bit more seasoning, but otherwise tasted really good. The plate had literally every vegetable I could think of. In alphabetical order: asparagus, avocado, baby tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, olives, onions, potatoes, tomato slices, zucchini. Everything was truly cooked to perfection. My partner got the Caprese Salad with steak and the steak came out DARN good. When all was said and done, we spent about $50 on two entrees. A bit pricey. Buyer Beware: We noticed that there was an added 14% gratuity and a $2.35 service charge (when I asked about it, they said it was added for prepping the food). Our server forgot to tell us that they were no longer serving breakfast, which was disappointing because open table says that breakfast is until 2 on the weekends. When we finally got our food, it was not good quality, especially for the price they charged. The hamburger meat was low quality and made me feel sick. Extra charges were presented as free, and then we saw the extra charges on the bill, where there was also a service charge and gratuity already added. My friend ended up paying 27 dollars for her burger, which is insane, especially when she felt sick after. Overall would not recommend. read more

The dish felt out of place for their menu, which was all American cuisine, so I wasn't surprised that the seasoning was off. Would not recommend this dish. The salmon was very fresh and tasted amazing. I have a dairy and gluten allergy and they were able to accommodate that by not using butter. I asked to switch the mashed potatoes for rice and they were able to do that for no extra charge. We initially ordered chicken empanadas but they brought us beef empanadas. Because it was so busy (and we were so hungry) we did not care but that could definitely be a problem for people who don't eat red meat. Especially because you don't realize until you bite into it. The Tavern is a very cool pub located on Collins Ave. in beautiful Miami Beach! We went on Christmas evening so they were very busy, thankfully there were two open spots at the bar. Also, they had the NFL channel so we could watch our team. The outside patio is spacious enough but the inside is amazing!! I loved the ambiance and it really puts you at ease. Our bartender Carlos was entertaining and attentive. We ordered the Juicy Lucy and some wings. The burger was pretty good as were the fries which it seems they used a shovel to put on the plate. The wings were OK, a little dry for my taste. It was Christmas so they were incredibly busy all day and a bit understaffed so waiting for our food is forgivable. They have so much more than bar food. The table service was also pretty slow. However the food really made up for it. Staying at the hotel in the area. Walked up and down the Collins Avenue to find a place for dinner during a week day over the Spring break was the tough mission. Almost all the restaurants on the Yelp radar were packed with people with long wait. The Taven restaurant was the only one that I was able to walk right in. I ordered the Linguini Fra Diavolo "Fruti Di Mare". It tasted really good. The spicy marinara sauce was creamy with just right amount of spiciness that tingling the mouth. It reminded me the similar dish I had at the old News Cafe at the Lincoln road South beach. However, I must caught them on their off day. The restaurant was quite busy and my appetizer crispy calamari never came. The server never apologized and the managers which I saw them past by my table several times never even spoke to me. The server only asked me did I still want the calamari or not after I almost finished my entree. But they did at least took it off from my bill. The restaurant was like all the other places in the area that charged the service fee and gratuity together to 20% of the bill. You could still tip extra on the side if you want. But make sure you read the bill before you hand your payment especially with the credit card. Because once the servers swiped your card, sometimes they don't always bring the original bill that shows all of the charges. Instead, you only get the receipt for the credit card that has a line to ask you for more tipping. read more

Loved this place! It was an unexpected delight. It is within walking distance of several hotels--we had stayed at the Holiday Inn a few blocks away. The place is lively and has a diverse selection of menu options that should suit a range of tastes. The green goddess salad is terrific! We enjoyed some great live music while we were there. We went for lunch and for dinner and service both times was a little slow but it seems like many of the restaurants we visited had that laid back tempo. By the way--tip is included in a lot of restaurants so be sure to check--but it seems like sometimes the service isn't as attentive maybe because they are already getting that tip. The hotel clerk recommended this restaurant for close distance and good food but said there is always a wait. We had a very late start to dinner (1030pm) so we decided to give the Tavern a try and was happy to find out they were still accepting guest. We waited for 15 mins but the host acknowledged us and the four other parties immediately. Within 5 mins he moved us from waiting outdoors, standing to indoors in there upstairs waiting area. Customer service is important and throughout our experience here I can say they provided great customer service. Now for the food, we had the beef empanadas for starters. You get a total of 3 in the order. They appeared to be fried nicely but I hated them. The filling wasn't good and the breading, crust, shell whatever you want to call it was more moist then crispy. If you like authentic Empanadas please don't order them here. For dinner we got the carbonara pasta and the arroz con pollo. The portion size of pasta was great for one person but I didn't try it although I was told it was good. the arroz con pollo can easily be shared with another person as it is so much food and the chicken is so much. The chicken was so good and moist and the rice was a mix of different colorful peppers and onions. It was lacking a little salt & pepper but nothing I couldn't fix on my own.
